You always said that you’d both met and fell in love at the circus And that’s why you loved animals so much So much so that you’d bought a big dog with little ears and called it ‘dumbo’ Which was a joke that got less and less funny every time Obviously you brought the dog along that night… When you showed up otherwise alone, to my dinner party, Having already rang ahead, to ensure that all of my dishes Had been prepared in a completely nut free environment, Now quipping that it was for the sake of your ‘imaginary’ husband, Because several years on from the wedding that none of us were invited to We still hadn’t met him, even though you always said he was coming, Before suddenly he couldn’t make it Because he travelled a lot with work, but mainly because he didn’t really exist, You broke down in tears in my kitchen, certain he was seeing someone else. How reckless we’d all been to tolerate your fabricated reality But until then I didn’t have the guts to put an end to the ever maddening scenes So instead, with a solemn nod and totemic silence, I walked over to the cupboard where I kept the snacks, took a pinch of dry roast dust from the loose pegged bag Sprinkled an inch into the upturned palms of your trembling hands and said If you just rub some of this round the rim of his can no one will know, but we’ll all understand’ It takes real guts to fake being nuts And it takes real nuts, to break fake guts
This is why I religiously listen to radio 6 to experience these utterly stunning, unique master pieces- pure genius, song of the year for me (and I’m a metal fan!!!’) Good job folks👍
This is one of my favourites of this band's songs. Everything I've listened to from Yard Act has been absolute class, including the live gigs, fully intend on watching this band's career progress and expecting further great things. Truly amazing lyricism that reminds me a lot of Ray Davies and some of the earlier British lyricists of the mid 20th century. Class act overall, well done lads!
At last! This is great! Sounds like the band Television who suddenly discovered rap but with a not so NYC accent! I love the weird story telling in oyur songs. You've got a French fan. When all this Covid shit is over, do come to France. We have nice food, wine, beer, women, men, and music lovers!
Can we please get a retrospective music video for Peanuts 😅 seeing how original (and downright awesome) the videos for Overload have been I just think this would be a banger of a video/short film.
Just....yes. Thanks for this. Cracking, Rosalind Krauss says FUCK YEAH: Reference. Deference. Difference. Smiths, Cooper-Clarke, and a very modern spit in all of the best ways. Just found you, be looking out and distributing wildly to all I know or have the pleasure to meet. Just, bra-f'in-oh.

It takes real guts to fake being nuts
And it takes real nuts, to break fake guts
What does "rim of his can" mean here? Is can a UK slang for something?
can is referring to a canned drink, most likely a beer in this case
An imaginary can, of pretend beer.
John Peel would have loved this

‚It takes real guts to fake being nuts and it takes real nuts, to break fake guts‘ had me laughing out loud, definitly lyric of the year.
Heard this on the radio ages ago. I’ve tried making semi funny songs in the past. Could never even come close to this. Talent at its finest
Just heard this on radio 6 and immediately caught my attention.
Absolutely brilliant!
Choice! This has been putting a stupid grin on my face every time I've heard it on 6music lately - all the best!
Half man half biscuit meets The Fall!!!
Hmhb my all time favourite
With a bit of Wire thrown in.
I agree with Gary, definitely some Wire...
Not only was this a great song, it is fucking hilarious. I actually laughed out loud which I barely achieve with comedy these days. Saved. Thank you.

In my head I’m imagining this is being told from the perspective of Graham from fixer upper
He is a one, that Graham.
My favourite one
My new favourite band!

Can we please get a retrospective music video for Peanuts 😅 seeing how original (and downright awesome) the videos for Overload have been I just think this would be a banger of a video/short film.

Anyone get Sleaford Mods vibes? I like this kind of uniqueness of the lyrics.
More half man half biscuit vibes here 😍🙌
Better lyrics, music and vocals.
