Drive both. Choose the one you like. Likes the meridian CX-50, panoramic roof, and body shape, and had the complete opposite reaction about ride. I like the Japanese made CX-5 for comfort, visibility, and ride quality.
I love my cx5 preferred. It was the best choice for me. The cx-50 is nice but personally I find the handling/driving in the cx5 to be better and more comfortable. You really can’t go wrong with either one. Choose your favorite and you will have many years of enjoyment and happy driving.
I rewarded myself with a CX-50 Turbo Premium in Zircon Sand/Terracotta. This Mazda checks all the right boxes if you need utility but are a driving enthusiast. Always look forward to my next drive.
What would you compare it to that isn't a SUV/CUV? I Hear comparisons to the Macan but not everyone can afford one of those. Maybe a GTI, Focus ST, Velsoter N?
I got my premium plus S back in December of 2022! Love the car! Some equipment that I would like to see on the non-Turbo premium plus model which you can get in the premium plus turbo model, but I didn’t want a turbo model, is the 360 camera, memory in the mirrors( I do have memory seats, but no memory link in the mirrors, and I missed that from my previous vehicle! Also I miss having the reverse tilt down in the mirrors that I had on my previous vehicle, which is available on the top turbo trims on the CX 50.
I bought a CX-5 over a CX-50, mainly because the seats in the CX-50 are rock hard compared to a CX-5. The interior looks cheaper in the CX-50, though wish the CX-5 had a moonroof.
I agreed except the seats . I tried the seat in the showroom, and I actually like the CX50 more. However, I own a CX5 because it's a bit easier to park. I really don't need a bigger car , we're empty nesters. If I live in LV with big wide roads and parking lots, then CX50 may be my choice.
I got a '24 cx 50 premium plus turbo last weekend. I love it. I think it drives great. Seems much lighter than its appearance. Will put in 93 tomorrow and see how the extra hp feels but even on 87 it has a decent amount of power to it.
@@ExhaultedPoobah yeah I agree. It's not a whole lot different. I feel like maybe there's a little more pull but probably not enough night and day where I'll be putting 93 in every time I fill up.
The center control knob is crucial. I may switch brand if they listen to the Americans who griped so much about wanting to use the screen more. At least, you can program the screen to be used while driving now.
Why should they hear the minorities? The vast majorities of Mazda owners around the world prefer the knob over touchscreen. Go ahead switch to other brands, the less of mazda owner like you will be much better anyway lmao
@plutoxxxxxxx fyi Mazda seems to want to keep this design. 11 years straight. I am nobody to be sure. There are hundreds of thousands of owners who seem to convince Mazda to keep the control dial. Just saying.
For me it was an easy decision. I checked out both the CX-50 and CX-5 and went with the CX-5. More luxurious, to me CX-5 has a nicer interior, I liked the seats much better, easier to get in and out of without hitting my head, made in Japan. The only reason I might get a CX-50 over a CX-5 is if I were living out in the country and was going to use it more like a Subaru Outback. I drive mainly in the city and highways in Florida with lots of rain so the CX-5 Turbo Premium with AWD is about perfect for me.
Drove them both, bought a CX-5 Signature over a loaded CX-50 Meridian last year. Saved about $3k. The CX-5 Signature is on par with the Acura RDX or Lexus RX, the CX-50 is more like a Subaru Outback. Choosing which one you like depends on your taste. Luxury vs the outdoorsman vibe.
I bought a cx5 in June 27th and traded in my mazda3, the cx50 doesn't really meet for what I use my vehicles for; I use my car for to drive from work and home I don't really need a rugged looking car
The newer one is more practical. One is made in Japan while the other is our states. Gonna give the cx50 a few more years before i come back to change my mind
This is the same model/trim that I went with. I love it so far! My biggest complaint is the drink holder placement, but it's not the end of the world for me. Also.. super random, but around the 6-minute mark. Is that Duraleigh Road? I thought It looked super familiar! haha
The dimensions are practically the same, the other difference is thr exterior and interior desgin. Oh yea, the cx5 ks also made in japan, while 50 in AL. If i was leasing, id consider the cx50, but buying wise, i would choose the cx 5 all day
You have adaptive cruise control, which is super helpful, top level 360 degree view, HUD including indication of where vehicles are that are close to you, so what else do you want?
@@ExhaultedPoobah Every other manufacturer has essentially full self driving on the highway with minor input from the user (touch the wheel every 10 seconds or so). Don't get me wrong, I love driving. But long tedious trips that are relatively straight are tiresome. Even having lane centering Is super useful when driving and glancing at the scenery momentarily. Mazda has this, but it sure doesn't work well.
@@TheTCOLL Understand, and I also have a Kia Sorrento which has much more affirmative lane - centering than my CX-5 and does give those voice reminders. However, the consequences of something going wrong are too severe and I am not ready to turn that over to a car - I want total control. What gets tired is the foot on the accelerator and so what I must have on a long trip is the adaptive cruise control (maintains a distance between you and the car in front of you when the other car slows down). The Mazda does this very well, and has a HUD, which the Sorrento does not. Both are nice cars.
@@ExhaultedPoobah that’s why it’s nice if you can turn it on or off. It’s a choice. I’ve heard the Mazda co-50 adaptive cruse is actually not that great. 🤷🏻♂️
This car has crap ton of quality control issues. From what i have read it is poorly build car. No surprised that cx50 is built in america. I will choose made in japan cx5 all day everyday.

I still don't understand why the meridian one doesn't have meridian sound system 😂

I hate the cupholders being behind me such an odd designed interior
Picked up an S (non-turbo) Premium Plus in December. Absolutely love it! It's super fun to drive and gorgeous to look at.
What color did you choose?

I wanted to like the XC-50 due to production quality, but the armrest is SO short lol. Happy with the CX-50
Cx5 made in japan
The CX5 is a mom car

I have a 2023 CX-5 Turbo Premium Plus, and I really cannot tell the difference between regular and premium gasoline - it is plenty peppy on regular.

1 reason to get cx5 - has independent multi link rear suspension.
I am considering both, so I loved the video and appreciate other comments as well.
I would take the CX 5 made in Japan. Also like the looks better on it.

Curious so this rides better even without independent rear suspension and can you feel the center leather strip on the seat?

They shouldn't put big wheels w/low-profile tires on anything geared for off-roading.
The newer one is more practical. One is made in Japan while the other is our states. Gonna give the cx50 a few more years before i come back to change my mind
I like the CX-50 too! The steering wheel looks a bit low for you - may be the angle of the camera
The non turbo is very slow, 2.5 moves the CX5 much better

Looks like machine gray metallic.

Don’t give up your day job!
I love mine cx 50 but no turbo regular engine
Cx 50 has cheaper suspension. The quality is much better in the Cx 5
I'm 99% sure the CX5 is still made in Japan, which does make a difference in attention to detail. The CX50 has great reviews too, .......
With that “cheaper suspension” comes with more towing ratings
lol “It just feels better to me” is not a persuasive argument. CX-5 made in Japan, not… Alabama. Nuff said.
Yep, makes all the difference. Like the cx50, but big turn off.
I would choose the CX5 every time… CX5 split rear seats 40-20-40…CX5 has better finishes less hard plastics…
No CX5 Everyday of the week
CX5 - My third, CX50 - No thanks!
Turbo premium plus package... ridiculous price with torturing rock hard seats. No thanks.
The quality of the CX-5 is superior built (Japan).
Come 2025/26 The next gen. CX5 will blow this out of the water. With a rumoured PHEV combined 328HP! Been saving my cash for 2+ years now. Can't wait!
I'm waiting too. I hope its nice. Although I won't be going with the hybrid. Probably going to be 75k. Lol
$44k 😂 really
One is made in Japan wirh a nicer interior and one is made in US and styled to look butch with fake vents, cheaper suspension and a cheaper interior.
cx5 all day long
CX 50 interior looks so boring. Fake vents look so cheap.
Want to buy this so bad, but the zero driver assistance tech makes it a hard no go for long road trips.
Drink some matcha instead. Cheaper and keeps you sharper for longer.
