    This was a great series. Thanks for putting together and the deep thoughts and reasoning behind your choices. Its a journey and discovery. I'm find my thoughts and process a little similar yours. Let's see where my taste buds take me. Unfortunately there's a good handful of the blends and brands you mention that are no longer in production today. Be fun to see you find the new 16 and 8 rotation update if you ever feel like doing that. Happy piping.

    You’re not bad at doing videos at all. You’re genuine and that is by far the most important thing to me. The time you take to reflect means you take the time to reflect like a normal human being.
    I really like your videos and your suggestions, they add a lot to my pipe smoking. Please stay exactly how you are, I like you and your videos just the way you have been doing them.

      Fred J. Neslage Jr. - Thanks Fred, I am amazed at how well the channel is doing, when I first started I thought I might get 2,000 subs max, but my goal was never subscribers, it was to help make it easier to get into pipe smoking and stay into pipe smoking, if I accomplish that, then I have succeeded. 👍👍👍

    About a month ago I ordered a bunch of samples trying to get a hold of all the different blend styles and one of those was H&H Larry blend. Oh my when I first opened the USPS box the smell was rattling. It even sank into the plastic sample bags of the others. I said out laud that there was no way I was sticking that into my pipe. but after letting it sit in a jar for a while it is a heavy and thick good taste to me. And for the record, you are one of the most professional and clean you-tubers I have encountered thus far. The style, information, and detail is outstanding and a example to be followed. A toast to you and to all who see you as I do, a gentlemen and trustworthy source of knowledge.

    Hey Muttnchop. Me and the missus have just watched this whole series. Ive been sat here with a pipefull of Rattrays marlin flake and a honey Jack (or 2). What a week mate. Our capitol attacked again. Crazy politicians.. man.
    On a plus... We so enjoy your vids. You have such a nice old school way about you. Georgie would like to know, if you dont mind, what you do for a living? I'm guessing something in engineering but Georgie thinks you could be a teacher. Have we guessed right? You take it easy now big guy. I hope you feel the love from the other side of the pond. • @arturlopes2929
    @arturlopes2929 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    You are doing a great, great job! Very didactic, knowledgeable, a true amateur. Well.., unfortunately here in Brazil I can just dream about those tobaccos.., long ago one could find a reasonable variety at decent prices. Alas, not anymore... And when you come across anything of quality, it costs you an arm and a leg and some innards to boot. There are some new trials going on in order to refine our very good raw materials.., I mean: Brazilian tobaccos. Some very good 100% Virginia, some attempts to come up with something akin to Dark Kentucky and that is all... So.., I will get some Bright Virginia, some Red Virginia, some Burley, and a Dark fire and try to concoct a blend of my own.., Any tips on how to achieve something smokable this way?

    • @MuttnchopPiper
      @MuttnchopPiper  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Artur Lopes - just experiment, do small quantities 1/2 ounce of this, 1/4 ounce of that, once you blend it and you find a combination you like, double or triple the amounts of each, then Cellar it and enjoy the fruits of your labor. 👍👍👍

    As you may know i am a beginner and without your guidance i would have had no idea how to go about it.
    All your broad information has helped me enourmously, the first tobacco i smoked was Escudo from the first prince pipe i restored.
    I must say, a most enjoyable experience because your of your tuition and i have grasped pipe smoking with both hands and love it without any of the problems that i may have otherwise encountered. Without your detailed and informative advice, it may have been a bad experience.
    I thank you so much for the time and care you have put into your videos and the enjoyment i get from watching them, this is why you have so many subscribers.
    You truly deserve a medal of honour!
    So again, thankyou i really appreciate it.

    After the years searching for that perfect blend I've give up. I'll buy certain blends and sometimes I get a new blend. My rotation is includes around 7 blends. Ashton's Artisan is one of those...NIghcap was better when it was blended by Murray,still a good blend. Yes, before I finish this try Rattray's Marlin Flake...very good Va/per flake and one of the blends in my (magnificent 7.)
    Have good start for the week & as always cool smokes mate.

    • @MuttnchopPiper

      Hey Olle, can you list for me the Magnificent 7 Blends you smoke? 😄😄👍

    • @ollewahlroos7680
      @ollewahlroos7680 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Certainly, these are so called Magnificent 7
      Artisan's Blend,Merlin Flake,Irish Flake or (Orlik Dark Strong), Commonwealth,Stokkebye's Balkan Supreme(easier to get by bulk than old Balkan Sobranie and tasty as old Sobranie),Escudo and finally 3 Nuns. These are easily available and after long search I find them best suitable for my pallet.Sometimes I treat myself with blends like Margate or Germains Royal Jersey Perique. I've come to conclusion that there is too many blends too little time and when you get older and smoked and tried different blends for long time you'll finally end up with those that please you most.
      All the best from the coastal town in north.

    I waited to the very last video about your journey of doing your 16 blend rotation to comment because I wanted to watch all of them back to back like a marathon. All I can say is wow, I have learned so much from you about how to start a blend rotation. This is my first week of smoking a pipe in my life, I have found I really enjoy this very much as a hobby. I will definitely be using a lot if not all of your ideas and the process that you used to go about finding my own Journey, who knows I might even stumble across the few of the Blends that you have and actually like them. You have no idea how much it means to me that you would take time out of your schedule not to just show people like us who are new but in my opinion listening to you is like going to college for tobacco smoking of a pipe for free it's almost like I have a free college scholarship LOL.

    it has been a nice series. I do not have a rotation of certain blends. I do smoke some blends more than the others and those are the blends that i have to have on hand. Usually I have couple of tins open: usually one english (not smoking those anymore a lot) and a VaPer, kentucky or virginia. I have also a couple of "cookie jars" where i pinch goodies now and then.

    • @MuttnchopPiper
      @MuttnchopPiper  8 ปีที่แล้ว

    As a former Cigar smoker and more recent convert to pipe tabacco I have to say that is a great rotation. You really can't go wrong with any of those blends and some are the real aristocracies of Pipe tabacco. I have never tried Sleepy Hollow and am not a fan of Aromatics but having a couple of Dessert blends in the rotation is legitimate.Mine are Peterson's 3Ps with a mild plum casing and Comoy's Irish Mixture with a Whiskey topping. Other than that I have to say I am am a fan of all your recommendations. Great Channel and very informative.

    I really liked this series a lot! It was very educational. I am wondering exactly how you rotate these blends, as in l, how have you decided when to smoke each one? Also, I want you to know I tried Maltese Falcon for the first time today, based on your recommendation. Thank you, it was excellent!

    • @MuttnchopPiper
      @MuttnchopPiper  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey josh, thanks for watching. So I am not sure if you are asking about the 16 main blends or the 8 Auxiliary blends, but I will answer using both. The 16 main blends, I smoke each blend in its specified pipe per day, so let's say we start today as the first day, I smoke Dark Star in the Savinelli 320 specified for that tobacco. Tomorrow I will smoke Bijou in its specified pipe, so forth and so on. Concerning the 8 blend Auxiliary, let's say 8 days into my rotation, I have a craving for one of the blends in my 8 blend auxiliary rotation, I will use a pipe not in the main rotation and enjoy a bowl of that, and push the tobacco in the 16 blend rotation to the next day. 😃😃

      +Muttnchop Piper Thank you for the swift and in-depth answer to my question. It makes a lot of sense so you don't get bored with anything and smoke the best blends for your pallet. Some great blends there for sure.
    I think the Hearth and Home blends are underrated. They really have some nice blends. I love Virginia Spice. It is a Virginia/Perique with some cigar leaf added. Wonderful stuff.
    Also, if you haven't tried Nightcap you really should. It is my favorite English. It has some Perique for a little extra kick, which I think the Ashton Artisan's mixture does as well.
    Nightcap is heavy though. It is aptly named because when you smoke it you're pretty much done for the day.
    Love your videos friend. I have only been smoking a pipe for a year and a half or so and it is nice to have an experienced guy like you willing to share your knowledge. Keep it up.

    As a fairly new pipe smoker, informative and guiding videos such as yours and bradley's stuff&things guide to pipe smoking were the only thing that kept me going. I want to thank you sir for this much appreciated content, and for sharing your precious knowledge with us. You surely made this journey a great fun. This isn't the only thing - Your personal journey is also very interesting. keep up the great content!

    My piping journey started only recently; there's been hardships, frustrations and various learning curves for me to negotiate along the way.
    There's also been moments of quiet bliss ---``perfect smokes`` as Matches860 calls them; these I owe mostly to people like you who took the time to post enlightening videos to guide others and point them in the right direction.
    Thank you for taking some of your time to make these videos :).

    Thank you for making these videos! I have been pipe smoking for over 20 years and I still learn things from them, but that is not why I watch them - I enjoy very much just lighting up a bowl and relaxing with the YTPC, it's like being part of the best pipe club in the world.

    Thank you very much for doing your videos. I'm learning a lot from you. I can't reach most of the blends you exposed, because I live in Europe, but I'm going to tray that Ashton blend which I can get from a shop nearby. And I recommend you night cap, which is one of my favourites.

    Wow! Nice! I am so thankful for your videos because I gave up smoking a pipe years ago but decided to start up again after trying out a cob at my friend's ranch. Well then we started watching your videos and it's opened up an incredible rich and interesting world to us. Your presentation style is well, can it said, that of the Southern Gentleman. You sir, are a treasure. Thanks so much for all you're doing!

    Great series! You inspired me to set up something similar. Up to now I'd open a tin then smoke it to the bottom, then open a new one. Now I have a dozen jars of stuff I really like and I can select what I feel like at that moment. I'm still exploring tobaccos and trying new blends, but now I have a bank of ones I really like at the ready. Quite a few are the same you have (I also enjoy the Englishes and Orientals). I like your pigeon-hole cabinet for the jars. I made a couple shelves installed at a slight angle I store my jars. Not near as nice as your setup, but it works. I bought some 2" round labels I can run through the printer and put on the lids using images I find through Google image search. Keep up the great videos - they are very informative.

    Thank you for the great content and information! I have one question. In some of your other videos (I'm sorry I'm not citing them specifically) you mention that you are primarily an aromatic pipe smoker but you only have one aromatic in that 16+8 rotation. Is my timeline off and you are no longer an aromatic smoker? Have you become one since originally setting up this rotation? Thanks again.

    • @MuttnchopPiper
      @MuttnchopPiper  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      flamdrags - Yes, shortly after making this video I realized that I needed to branch out into non-Aromatic pipe tobacco, and found I loved them, so my taste changed quite rapidly. So what was I to do, delete this video, or let it remain, it has some great content, so I decided to allow it to remain in my catalog. 👍👍👍

    Great videos Muttnchop! I've appreciated seeing the blends you've made your rotation out of. I would like to see a part 7 to the series of what you looked for in a blend and how you decided which ones you liked better (for example, did you smoke a bowl of each G.L. Pease side by side and decide or did you alternate through several bowls or what). Thanks again for the videos!

    I really liked this series, it was very inspiring and has me thinking about my own rotation. Maybe you said this early on, but how did you come up with the magic number 16?

    • @MuttnchopPiper
      @MuttnchopPiper  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks red, actually the number I came up with was 24, but buying 24 pipes to dedicate to 1 tobacco each was a little pricy for me, 16 is difficult enough, so I backed it up to 16 blends, 1 blend dedicated to 1 pipe, then I have other pipes to use for the other 8 when I need a change of pace. So how did I come up with the number 24? I guess I figured there would be no way I could get board smoking 24 different blends.
