The evil book from The Care Bears Movie is another. The Disney Channel used to play whatever they could get their hands on and as a result, I saw a lot of weird stuff.

1979’s “The Halloween That Almost Wasn’t” or otherwise called “The Night Dracula Saved the World” 1992 rerelease, should be on this list. It also won an Emmy, and starred Judd Hirsch as Dracula, Mariette Hartley as the witch, and Henry Gibson as Igor.

My father recorded Disney's Halloween Treat on VHS for me. I used to watch it several times a year, not just on Halloween. Hans Conried as The Mirror was my favourite.
I wonder why the Garfield and Winnie the Pooh specials aren't shown on TV anymore. Also I wish you could have talked about The Devil and Daniel Mouse which was also a 70's Canadian special. Thanks for making this and uploading!
EvilMariobot The reason that you don’t see Winnie-the-Pooh here in the US on tv, and it’s been missing from being listed on any streaming service such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, etc is due to licensing issues. The only thing you will see is a few titles separated, but part of licensing packages, and even viewable free on TH-cam. Everything else, is kept by the license holders. It’s saddening that because of this, many cartoon series have disappeared and long forgotten. If anyone should upload these specific titles to youtube, they will be removed for copyright violations. Even if that means a title going into extinction. I keep holidays specials lists that I revisit/update. Disney has been working on their own streaming service and recently pulled a ton of content from Amazon. But even before that, their was no Winnie-the-Pooh titles except for the few owned by multiple other license holders/distributors.

indeed, Scared Stupid is great and easily one of the top 3 Ernest movies overall, some people can think it looks cheesy, but they put some real effort into it, especially with Trantor the Troll.

Yes that special rocks, my mother had recorded it for us when we were little. It is still a tradition every halloween to watch it the pumpkin who couldn't smile, witches night out, halloween is grinch night, and the worst witch. My niece and nephews all love them to.
There’s a few other I remember from growing up in the 90: I recall watching Frankenweenie, Disney’s Halloween Treat, but I also watched Rageddy Ann and Andy and the Pumpkin Who Couldn’t Smile also one with Casper the Friendly Ghost. Casper wanted to Trick or Treat and dressed as a boy but the other ghosts said he needed to be scary. The other plotline was of the orphan kids who Casper befriends. They try to trick or treat but no one will give them candy because they’re poor. Casper tried to help them but the other ghosts make it worse by playing pranks. There was also the one from The Better or for Worse Comics: It starts by the family going to the fair. They try to get the dog Farly to win the competition and the mom is trying to sell her jams. But the dog gets out of control and ruins everything. It’s Halloween night and the older boy is trick or treating but he bullies are messing with him. The dog had gone missing earlier in the day and finds the boy in trouble and defends him- making the bullies run away. The little sister is trick or treating with her dad. Anyone else remember these?
Theirs something about the voice actors of the 70s and 80s that really sold these kinda moments. I love the voice actors of today, but theirs a certain quality they had that I haven't seen in recent works. Maybe it's the not-as-high-quality sound that makes the low, eerie voices even more eerie?

The mention of Ernest brought back a bizarre memory. Many many moons ago, I worked at Tower Video in Sacramento. Our Assistant Manager was awesome with a fun and twisted sense of humor. He was responsible for checking in the new stock, which was actually fairly involved and gave him access to the main computer (VERY basic system - DOS - as you can imagine). We had an employee named Ernest who got a job at Macy's, so he added "Ernest Goes to Macy's" to the movie list. The best one, however, was "The Care Bears Maul Some Campers and Get Shot." It was in the computer for about 6 months before some kid noticed it on the checkout screen, and cried, "Mommy, they shot the Care Bears!" Needless to say, it disappeared from our roster that very night. ;-) Good times. Seriously. We had a blast at that job.
Halloween Tree was released on DVD a while back. I live in Canada too and I remember the special being on Teletoon every year until the mid-2000's. I bought my copy from Wal-Mart. That DVD is still on their website, so you still might find it in stores or online if you're really looking for it. Happy Hunting ;)
Boris Karloff wasn't The Grinch in the Halloween one because he sadly died in 1969. Instead, they used the voice of Captain Hook from the 1953 Disney Peter Pan movie.
Thanks for remembering *_The Halloween Tree_* by Ray Bradbury. It's one of my favorites. The book version is even better. The kids have 4 miniadventures in the movie, but there are 7 in the book.

I still find it weird how most of the characters had different voice actors in Revenge of Jimmy. Jimmy in particular sounded much younger than he did in the first one.

You unlocked a very VERY DEEP HIDDEN MEMORY with that Grinch video. I remember having nightmares as a kid where the grinch would slide along my walls... I can’t believe I forgot this is where those nightmares came from. I literally thought I dreamt this movie up.
You missed The Worst Witch. It was a little gem that used to play in heavy rotation on HBO. Not only did Tim Curry play the Grand High Wizard, Charlotte Ray (Mrs. Garrett on Facts of Life) played the headmistress of the school as well as her evil twin sister, and Diana Rigg, the Queen of Thorns herself, played the strict teacher of the main little witch.
I tried watching this a few years ago, but it was so cringe I couldn’t finish it! But my sister and I watched this over and over as kids. I do still love Tim Curry’s part singing Anything Can Happen on Halloween.
The Halloween Tree is one of those things I remember watching as a kid but could not figure out what it was decades later. Just vague scenes and fleeting glimpses. I remember renting it from Blockbuster even, I loved it so much. This video solidified that memory and gave me back a part of my childhood. Thank you.

Oh my god I remember Ernest scared stupid! I was terrified of the movie when I was 6 so much that I never finished it, and my family made fun of me for it. Maybe this Halloween, I'll watch it again...
There is one Halloween kids movie I cannot find any trace of besides my memory. All I can remember is that two kids, a boy and girl, go Trick or Treating and their dog is afraid something bad will happen to them. I think he follows them throughout the night, and at the end everything turns out okay and some old man (I think their grandpa) shows up and gives the dog a piece of candy. I think the dog was blonde with brown wavy, floppy ears.
Actually Mad Monster Party isn't technically a Halloween special since it was originally released in March of 1967. It is a great movie though, and I adore Rankin/Bass.
I knew Disney's Halloween Treat would make the list! I was 3 years old when I first saw that and I could never shake the image out of my head when I saw those skeletons sweeping the floor with their legs and clashing their teeth! Haha That same night, I had a nightmare of being chased by skeletons.
There's one I know of that doesn't get a lot of love. It's called "Buttons and Rusty: Which Witch is Which?" It's set in a forest, and has these anthropomorphic animals (in this case, a family of foxes and a family of bears,) living relatively peacefully with this Park Ranger-like person watching over them, akin to Yogi Bear, in that sense. This special takes place on Halloween night, with trick-or-treaters mistaking the titular characters as other children, who end up getting involved in a burglary. It's good fun.
I don't remember it well, but "Raggedy Ann and Andy in The Pumpkin Who Couldn't Smile" should be on this list. It was directed by Chuck Jones, who made the original Bugs Bunny cartoons.
Great video as always! I don't know if you knew this, but Mad Monster Party has a hand drawn prequel called Mad Mad Mad Monsters, also made by Rankin-Bass. I can't comment on the quality though because I haven't seen it or the original. I will have to check them both out this Halloween.
I haven't forgotten these, in fact I have most of them in my video collection. There are some other forgotten Halloween special as well. 1) "The Halloween that almost wasn't." It was a live action about some bumbling versions of Dracula, Wolman, Frankenstien, Igor and the Mummy who try to convince a stubborn witch to ride over the moon on Halloween night or it will be gone forever. 2) "Ragety Ann and Andy and the pumpkin who couldn't smile." Where Ragity Ann and Andy help a sad Jack' o lantern make a small boy happy when his aunt won't let him celebrate Halloween. 3) "The Fat Albert Halloween special." Where Fat Albert's friends try to scare a bunch of old people, but Albert shows them that not all old people are so bad. 4) "Buttons and Rusty Halloween. Where a hybrid bear cub and fox who live in the forest learn about Halloween by watching the campers celebrate it. 5) "The worst witch." Where a young witch at a witch's academy tries so hard to be a good witch, but has trouble controlling her magic and keeps screwing up, but at the end she pulls thru when she stops some evil witches from taking over.Maybe I should be doing my own video like this one.

Thanks for remembering *_The Halloween Tree_* by Ray Bradbury. It's one of my favorites. The book version is even better. The kids have 4 miniadventures in the movie, but there are 7 in the book.

I still find it weird how most of the characters had different voice actors in Revenge of Jimmy. Jimmy in particular sounded much younger than he did in the first one.

You unlocked a very VERY DEEP HIDDEN MEMORY with that Grinch video. I remember having nightmares as a kid where the grinch would slide along my walls... I can’t believe I forgot this is where those nightmares came from. I literally thought I dreamt this movie up.

You missed The Worst Witch. It was a little gem that used to play in heavy rotation on HBO. Not only did Tim Curry play the Grand High Wizard, Charlotte Ray (Mrs. Garrett on Facts of Life) played the headmistress of the school as well as her evil twin sister, and Diana Rigg, the Queen of Thorns herself, played the strict teacher of the main little witch.
I tried watching this a few years ago, but it was so cringe I couldn’t finish it! But my sister and I watched this over and over as kids.
I do still love Tim Curry’s part singing Anything Can Happen on Halloween.

The Halloween Tree is one of those things I remember watching as a kid but could not figure out what it was decades later. Just vague scenes and fleeting glimpses.
I remember renting it from Blockbuster even, I loved it so much.

Oh my god I remember Ernest scared stupid! I was terrified of the movie when I was 6 so much that I never finished it, and my family made fun of me for it.

Disney's Hallowe'en Treat was our favorite, excellent choice!
There is one Halloween kids movie I cannot find any trace of besides my memory. All I can remember is that two kids, a boy and girl, go Trick or Treating and their dog is afraid something bad will happen to them. I think he follows them throughout the night, and at the end everything turns out okay and some old man (I think their grandpa) shows up and gives the dog a piece of candy. I think the dog was blonde with brown wavy, floppy ears.

Actually Mad Monster Party isn't technically a Halloween special since it was originally released in March of 1967. It is a great movie though, and I adore Rankin/Bass.

I knew Disney's Halloween Treat would make the list! I was 3 years old when I first saw that and I could never shake the image out of my head when I saw those skeletons sweeping the floor with their legs and clashing their teeth! Haha That same night, I had a nightmare of being chased by skeletons.

My mom has the vhs tape of the Halloween tree, its also one of my favorite animated Halloween movies.
There's one I know of that doesn't get a lot of love. It's called "Buttons and Rusty: Which Witch is Which?" It's set in a forest, and has these anthropomorphic animals (in this case, a family of foxes and a family of bears,) living relatively peacefully with this Park Ranger-like person watching over them, akin to Yogi Bear, in that sense. This special takes place on Halloween night, with trick-or-treaters mistaking the titular characters as other children, who end up getting involved in a burglary. It's good fun.

I don't remember it well, but "Raggedy Ann and Andy in The Pumpkin Who Couldn't Smile" should be on this list. It was directed by Chuck Jones, who made the original Bugs Bunny cartoons.
Love Chuck Jones. Don't know that one though. They could have used Gossamer, the big red hairy monster & the witch whose hair pins fly out in a show.

Great video as always! I don't know if you knew this, but Mad Monster Party has a hand drawn prequel called Mad Mad Mad Monsters, also made by Rankin-Bass. I can't comment on the quality though because I haven't seen it or the original. I will have to check them both out this Halloween.
I haven't forgotten these, in fact I have most of them in my video collection. There are some other forgotten Halloween special as well. 1) "The Halloween that almost wasn't." It was a live action about some bumbling versions of Dracula, Wolman, Frankenstien, Igor and the Mummy who try to convince a stubborn witch to ride over the moon on Halloween night or it will be gone forever. 2) "Ragety Ann and Andy and the pumpkin who couldn't smile." Where Ragity Ann and Andy help a sad Jack' o lantern make a small boy happy when his aunt won't let him celebrate Halloween. 3) "The Fat Albert Halloween special." Where Fat Albert's friends try to scare a bunch of old people, but Albert shows them that not all old people are so bad. 4) "Buttons and Rusty Halloween. Where a hybrid bear cub and fox who live in the forest learn about Halloween by watching the campers celebrate it. 5) "The worst witch." Where a young witch at a witch's academy tries so hard to be a good witch, but has trouble controlling her magic and keeps screwing up, but at the end she pulls thru when she stops some evil witches from taking over.Maybe I should be doing my own video like this one.
