indian village houses are plastered with similar mixture by family members and beautiful paintings are made . its so amazing to live in such houses because they are much cooler in summer and warmer in winter and have nice effect like living in nature.
So the reason manure is used so commonly in traditional stuff like this is, aside from it being common, it contains natural fibers of various sizes, that helps give it structure and reinforces it. It's a natural composite material.
Actually, cow poo is a great building tool because it contains bits of hay and alfalfa and other stringy bits that are also used to strengthen clay blocks for building. It's been used for millenia for building, burning to make a cooking fire, in ancient beauty products, as well as used in some parts of the world to secure dreadlocks. Making art with it doesn't seem unreasonable. There's even a Dirty Jobs episode were they visit a guy who learned how to make dung pots for planting that are completely compostable, and no, they didn't smell.
Thank you, I earned something new today. :D Dry cowdung is a highly insulating, light but stiff building material. The Karl May Museum in Germany has a 150 year old piece of buffalo dung in it's collection for visitors to touch. :)
You don't need glue or any synthetic material at all, it works alone. In Morroco and India (and Spain, and for sure many places..!) they make plenty of things, even houses out of cow dung...
