Important Notes: In a particular fight of the video, there is a strange sound bug, which is due to version 1.1 of Double Dragon for Neo Geo CD (there are also versions 1.0 and 1.2, but the version I have is 1.1), and this bug occurs randomly... therefore, it's not an emulator error, as both versions (Neo Geo CD and PlayStation 1) are being run through their Real Hardware (American Fat PS1 and Brazilian Neo Geo CD) using CDs, which means it's also not an Optical Disc Emulator (ODE) error, since they are being run through the way they were designed to work. And yes, the loading in this game (and also in others) is shorter on Neo Geo CD compared to PlayStation 1 as you can see in the video. Both versions are on the same difficulty level as well... the defeats shown in the video are part of the comparison, as it demonstrates how the CPU intelligence behaves on the 2 hardware systems regarding difficulty progression, etc., after all, we know that when you lose the "credit/coin," there is a decrease in difficulty, so it's essential to show at least the first defeat. It's clearly visible in the video the difference in difficulty between the 2 versions, and among numerous other differences. These and other differences I leave for you to discover, and if you can, please leave a like on the video, as this video took a lot of effort, this game is very difficult (even though I played on EASY mode, which is equivalent to Arcade Level 3). Now, my opinion about this game is that for me, it's the best game in the Double Dragon franchise, but I might be biased to say that... since I enjoy fighting games, but for many, this Neo Geo game is simply bad and one of the worst Double Dragon games, something I don't understand... And I also like the movie, considering that this game is based on the movie which is based on the game... however, I confess that I knew this game before watching the movie, perhaps that explains why my perception of this game is so different from most people's. For me, it's simply one of the best Neo Geo games.
I forgot a very important observation, which is the fact that I find it funny how people tend to criticize the load times of the Neo Geo CD, when in this and other games, the load times of the Neo Geo CD are usually faster than those of the PS1, for example.
I forgot to mention that this Neo Geo fighting game was what made me like the movie... I used to think that the movie was based on the Neo Geo game and not the other way around... Another curiosity is that this Neo Geo game was my first encounter with the Double Dragon franchise; I didn't even know about the existence of the Lee brothers... it was only later that I sought to learn about the other games on the SNES, Mega Drive, NES, Master System, and so on.
Second watch some observations. 1. The Playstation version has a different menu screen. Feature modes such as "Over Drive Mode", "Normal Mode", and "Tiny 3D Mode". 2. The Playstation version's health bars are lower from the top of the screen in comparison to the Neo Geo CD version. 3. Also during the arcade fight stills from the film are shown on background screen on the Neo Geo version.
While both of these are pretty close, I would give the win to the Neo Geo CD overall on this one. The load times are faster, the characters are slightly larger, the graphics generally look a little sharper and less smoothed-over, and I like the fact that the art style throughout feels more consistent rather than mixing anime art, Western art, and live action movie scenes all in one weird stew like PS1 did.
Using clips from the Double Dragon film on both version is one way to showcase how cool your game was. Also the bad guy is portrayed by Robert Patrick. Know more famously for being the T-1000 in Terminator 2 Judgement Day.
Gameplay graphical difference: The PS1 is zoomed out a little. Characters slightly smaller. The GEO has darker blacks, the ps1 got faded a bit in the transfer. "Very Slight."
It'll never not be weird to me that Technos themselves looked at the weirdness that was the live action Double Dragon movie and said "Yeah! Lets make a 1v1 fighting game based on it!" I mean it's not a bad game. It just didn't do anything for me. That said I do like the character designs.

@@bassram3337 That's completely false nonsense. The Saturn destroys the Neo Geo in 2D gaming power. The Neo Geo could never run Marvel V Street Fighter in a million years. The Saturn runs it with no slowdown with a 4Mb cart. The NEO GEO CD needs frames cut in all the games, even with 7Mb Ram. The PS1 also has frames cut in games due to the CD format and Ram issue, not power. The Neo Geo CD proves my point 100%.

No. It's a bad port. There is no reason why background elements couldn't be interacted with since every sprite on the PS1 is made up of polygons. The Street Fighter Alpha games were good 2D ports. They even allowed 2 on 1 with Ken and Ryu against Akuma.

People always compared the PS1 to the Saturn but every other console of that generation would have lost to the Saturn in 2D. The way the PS1 drew "2D" is how every home console after drew 2D, 2 flat polygons with a texture on. What this mostly depends on is RAM. This is why the N64 sucked at 2D.
You guys have sharper eyes for details than I do. To me they look identical most of the time, except that the color is a little more vibrant on the Neo. Sure, in some stages the Neo has some added detail, but they're usually very minor. And I don't see any difference in animations. To me if we're splitting hairs, sure the Neo wins, but some of you guys make it sound like the difference is huge.
I'm surprised you've never done regional comparisons of the "Monica's Gang" versions of the Wonder Boy titles. Or have you?
th-cam.com/video/I65P3h7i8mQ/w-d-xo.html
@@vcdecide Doing a game that way is just brilliant marketing, if you ask me. You've got an ultra popular game, and an ultra popular regional comic. Smoosh them together. Instant hit.
psx was not chip-designed for 2D games... thats why every same gen console (Saturn, Neo Geo CD) was better than PSX in 2D fighters.
The PS1 never ceases to surprise me with the amount of games it has. Quite ridiculous.
Why is the Playstation footage all blurry? I want the pixels!
It's the game. The Neo CD version is sharper than the playstation's.
NeoGeo plays better but you can’t beat those early ps1 fmv openings. It seemed so futuristic back in 1995😅
UI reminiscent of WINAMP
The PS1's signature controller, which existed at the time, had a nostalgia reminiscent of the Windows 98 era.
Is it comfortable the Neo Geo controller?
It's great for fighting games, but many people tend not to like it due to lack of familiarity or because they are used to other types of directional inputs (D-pad or analog stick)... remembering that the Neo Geo CD controller, although it looks like an analog stick, actually functions more like a mini arcade lever controlled by the thumb.
The issue is that the Neo Geo CD controller doesn't usually have good durability, as there's wear and tear, and the controller starts to fail over time.
@vcdecide I can't remember if mine used microswitches or not, but yes... they do tend to fail under normal conditions (such as wear & tear). Still a solid controller for fighters though 👍
The Neo Geo controller is awesome. It's in the same league as the Japanese Sega Saturn controller, at least for fighting games.
Probably the last thing I wanna touch on is the odd roster.
You've got the characters from the movie, as expect.
To help flesh out the roster, you get interpretations of characters from the other games.
But then you've got a handful of randos. Why not just farm more characters from the game series instead?
this motorola 68000 was so powerfull
On marians level, the TV doesn't display pictures from the film at all, guessing maybe they lost or couldn't get the license for the PlayStation version
With such intro, I don't think licencing was an issue.
Maybe NeoGeo dumbed down the game a bit when providing it to Sony as it's their own brand game.
Good one bro
This is not a vedio game it is an inmotion
Está bem evidente qual é a melhor versão! Neo Geo sempre superior!
It looks like a good game. Never played this one. I think they're comparable and PS1 is doing a Ok here.
The Neogeo CD is already missing a few background and character details and animations compared to the arcade so I knew beforehand that the PS1 was going to be even worst.
Can someone tell me which are the best games in this series?
The NES version of 1 and 2, Super Double Dragon, Double Dragon Advance and Double Dragon Neon for me.
@@SomeOrangeCat thanks...
Crazy to think you can still buy double dragon for $5.99 on the American PlayStation 3 store
The PSX version holds up quite well.
Once again, you can see better colors shading and bigger sprites on the 24-BIT NEO-GEO CD
I love Marc Dacascos 😍😍😍
PS1 has a 3D mode 👍👍👍
Neogeo cd, sega Saturn PlayStation in this order
06:06 you judge which plays stiffer.
This time, Neo geo cd has faster loading times than psx. Maybe the ram was faster?
Neo Geo Wins... Perfect.
I gotta go with NEO GEO CD
compared to NGC, PS1 is like a movie, BEFORE visual effects applied 😂 looks like the game isn't finished yet. again, compared to NGC 😊
RIP Technōs Japan
8:31 ...wheel is spinning opposite directions
Nostalgia, ram, bla bla bla
Bem vindo a cegueira da nostalgia
The PS1 version looks slightly washed out compared to the Neo Geo CD version to me. But man those load times on ngcd ☹️
5:19 I haven’t worst yet LOL
Wow 😯😮
Loading times are horrendous, specially on PS1, would not play it
a versão do psx tras muitos extras alem de loadings menores pra mim infinitamente melhor.
1:59 the first intro video on neo cd. And 2:14 more loading.
2:31 neo cd intro sucks. Where’s the other fighters LOL
Nossa adoro esse jogo .
Super double dragon beats both of these games. I dont understand why they went from beat em up to this mediocre gameplay. A continuation off of super double dragon could have been the best beat em up ever
why base it off the horrid movie and then not have the characters look anything like them?
As often happens, the PS gets its ass kicked by NEOGEO and NEOGEO ports on Saturn as well. But in 1996, if you want the best of both worlds (3D and 2D) in a single consolle, PlayStation was the one to have. Just too many strong points to be sad about animation frames or a few extra seconds of loading time.
BTW this game feels like an exception as PS normally loads faster than NEOGEO CD.
Versao NeoGeo bem superior
Pisses all over the NES version 😮
por eso es mejor el nintendo 64
