    Audience: "Oh come on, are seriously doing Cars 3?!"
    Pixar: "What? You don't like the Cars franchise?"
    Audience: "Hell not, it's absolutely your weakest one ever!"
    Pixar: "So you don't care what's going to happen to the characters?"
    Audience: "Absolutely not, they were never really that interesting to begin with"
    Pixar: "So you don't mind if we'll simply KILL LIGHTNING MCQUEEN??!"
    Audience: "No, we don... wait, what?"

    8:02 I think the perfect ending for a Monsters' Inc. sequel would be where Sully is old and worn out by the end, and he opens Boo's door to see if Boo is in her room. He notices a girl in the bed, but it's not Boo. So after being heartbroken Sully slowly turns around to walk out again, but trips on a toy, making a loud thud. This wakes up the girl, but instead of panicking or screaming, she sprints out of the room. The little girl comes back in with her mom, who stares in shock. Pure silence, up until the mom starts to cry and she says "Kitty?". Sully says "Hey, Boo" and the screen fades to black.

    • @ProMurda
      @ProMurda 7 ปีที่แล้ว +58

      Or even they could have made a sequel where Sully and Mike return to Boo's world where Boo is a teenager, but Mike and Sully's doorway to escape is broken. That would make up for a great story where Boo, Mike, and Sully are running from the government because they are monsters.

      That was tear jerking, but to be honest i don't think it's a good idea.
      Pixar movies constantly talk about learning to grow apart from your past, wouldn't it be a bit contradictory to have a movie basically saying to people that it's okay to stick to childish things, to believe in "monsters in your closet"? Hell, even while i was typing this, some movies came to my mind: Toy Story 2 with Woody having to choose between his glorious past and his new friends; Finding Nemo with Marlin trying to overcome his fear of the ocean that was a direct consequence of a trauma caused by his wife's death; The Incredibles which to be fair is a bit enthusiastic about the good ole days but still delivers strong messages about not letting the nostalgia take over your life, your family, etc; Ratatouille with the protagonist Remy having to deal with the loss of his family and the loss of his idol; WALL-E, i don't think i need to explain lol; UP that centers around that idea, etc etc

    For a third Fantasia, Disney could use all three major styles of animation, hand-drawn, stop motion, and CGI. Some individual segments could use one style per sequence and one of them could combine all three.

      Blame Princess and the Frog. That was their breaking point, it didn't too well at the box office like they were hoping as well as their other 2D animated film at the time Winnie the Pooh. When compared to the 3D animated films Disney, Dreamworks and even Pixar were putting out.
      I think even Tangled was originally going to be 2D but because of the lack of box office for 2D animated movies they made the film go to 3D.

    • @ASliceOfGamingPodcast
      @ASliceOfGamingPodcast 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      H. M. It may have warranted one, but it's most likely not going to get it because of what I said earlier, it didn't get the numbers Disney wanted.

    • @CornishCreamtea07
      @CornishCreamtea07 8 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      3D animation costs a lot more money than you may think, there is a long process between modelling to a final rigged character model, the environments all need to be modelled, composting and than the weeks of rendering out, all the fancy particle effects.
      And unlike 2D you need to constantly invest in new technology, software programs like Maya have to be paid for yearly, and you need a team of programmers for your bespoke software to stay up to date. And then every few years you need to upgrade your render farm. Frozen cost $120 million, Winnie the Pooh only cost $30 million.
      The only 3D animation that is cheap, would be the stuff you see on TV.

    Man I just really miss hand drawn Disney movies. They rely way too heavily on cgi now. Yes, it’s fun to look at how realistic the backgrounds are, and seeing the way they can make the characters move is amazing, but it will never have the same charm that the older hand drawn movies had. Looking at a beautiful scene and knowing that someone drew and painted that?? Hearing Walt Disney talk about how he struggled to make Peter Pan look like he was weightless????? There are so many intricacies and it just felt like they cared a lot more, rather than pumping out a generic movie and then a sequel a year later. Even when one of the hand drawn movies wasn’t great, you can tell that a lot of work and love went into it. I know that people work extremely hard on the cgi movies, too, but it would be nice to see Disney go back to its roots and make another hand drawn film.

    • @markparkinson6378

    • @darkvixenkillu
      @darkvixenkillu 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah, I would LOVE to see a sequel to The Great Mouse Detective (especially the way Doug here is suggesting it) IF they had the original voice actors for Basil and Dr. Dawson. Granted I don't remember the actors names but come on. Basil was awesome and Dr. Dawson was great as his partner, if these two voice actors are still alive then AT LEAST you have to have Basil voiced by the same guy. I also would hope they stick to the original animation for the film (or at least as close as possible). Sadly I don't think Disney could pull it off these days (look at their other animated sequels, which i do like btw ...for the most part, but they just aren't on par with their original films.) Either they would fuck up the animation or go all cg on us (just plain !NO! on that. I mean come on if you start the original as hand drawn then have the balls to have the sequel hand drawn too) they would probably recast Basil with a total mismatch, or at least someone who gives a sub par performance compared to the original actor. Disney just doesn't seems to have the chops to match their really good original works anymore (at least not the hand drawn movies).

    • @suckypuckle9292
      @suckypuckle9292 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nostalgic babble. Plenty of the same work goes into CG.
      Tangled though was made specially to emulate 2D animation in a CG space. They even invented new tech and programs to make it. It looks great.
      So they should do that.

    • @iprobablyforgotsomething
      @iprobablyforgotsomething 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I fear that hand-drawing techniques will fade into obscurity with the rise of CGI until there simply aren't available any artists for non-CGI work, if trends keep going the way they are. I really hope Disney heeds our collective plea to return to old-school animations every handful of of films or so, or at least 1-2 every couple of years...

    Why not a reboot of The Black Cauldron? OK cheating here, but with the success of LOTR, Harry Potter, and Game of Thrones, you'd think someone would have the balls to do the dark 80's fantasy right, just fix a majority of the mistakes of the film, but keep the good stuff which mostly was John Hurt as the Horn King and how creepy the skeleton army was.

    Originally, Monsters University was going to be a sequel to Monsters Inc. and was called Monsters, Inc. 2: Lost in Scaradise, which was created by Circle 7. It would've been about Mike & Sulley dropping by Boo's room to wish her a happy birthday, only to discover that somebody different is sleeping in Boo's room. It seems that Boo and her family have moved since Mike and Sulley last visited her. Sulley is so determined to see Boo again that he and Mike venture out in the human world in order to find her. Once Mike and Sulley cross over into the human world, they then aren't allowed to return to Monstropolis until they actually reunite with Boo. It would also include an older Boo trying to hide Mike and Sulley from other people.

    At least half the segments must be in traditional animation.
    Revisit Sorcerers Apprentice and Rhapsody in Blue
    Pixar and Studio Ghibli should make their own segments.
    Alen Menken should be the MC.Other hosts to consider (for the other segments) would be Phill Collins, Randy Newman, Sting, and other notable actors from disney past and present musicals such as Susan Egan, Idina Menzel and James Earl jones again.

      The only issue I'd have with an Inside Out sequel, where new emotions are introduced, is that we got to see the emotions in other grown up people. In all of them, there were only the same 5 core emotions: anger, joy, fear, disgust and sadness (with the sole exception of the bus driver who had only anger).

Exploring a relationship through the emotions, as well as exploring stereotypes and character development through this filter. It’s perfect for deconstructing tropes. If the protagonist is a father, it could finally do something clever with the bumbling dad cliche.

      Cool. Disney made a midquel to Bambi called Bambi 2. For a direct to video derivative movie, it was actually pretty good. So a seual could be nice. Maybe they can mix the story of Bambi's children with the Romeo and Juliet kind of story in Lion King 2. That would be cool.

    • @ASliceOfGamingPodcast
      @ASliceOfGamingPodcast 8 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      You're probably in the minority, since the only reason Disney ditched 2D animation was because they weren't making as much money as their 3D animated movies.
      If their last 2D animated movies Princess and the Frog and Winnie The Pooh were successful, movies like Tangled and Frozen would have been 2D. At least that's what I read.

    • @thecinematicmind
      @thecinematicmind 8 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      There's a reason why Winnie The Pooh didn't do well. It's because it opened the same day as Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2 and the fact the film never got much marketing.

    • @ASliceOfGamingPodcast
      @ASliceOfGamingPodcast 8 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      The Cinematic Mind Yeah that was kind of a death sentence putting it up against the last Harry Potter movie. I mean I can see Disney's logic, Winnie the Pooh is more of a little kids movie, parents might have taken their little ones to see that while all the older kids went to go see Harry Potter. But still, what excuse did Princess and the Frog have?

    • @creativevisiongaming
      @creativevisiongaming 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It has nothing to do with films being 2D or 3D animation. Almost all the the 2D animated films after Hercules were awful. The princess and the frog had a few good moments but overall it was not a very good movie and Winnie the Pooh is normally markets towards little kids and people typically like the cuteness of it but don't really think the films are all that great.
      So yeah if Princess and the Frog was a better movie, like tangled or frozen, then it would have been more successful. Point is we don't really know if Tangled or Frozen would have been less successful as 2D because it took Disney a long time to start making good movies again.
      However some movies like Zootopia are probably better off as 3D.

    • @rachelstarkey6673
      @rachelstarkey6673 8 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      Ya, but the thing I liked about 2D animation is that every movie looked different. You could tell that it was its own little universe because they all had their own unique style. Now, all of the CG movies like Tangled, Frozen, and Zootopia look like they're all in the same universe. It doesn't bring out the originality that Disney so perfectly mastered. The effects of CG don't look as impressive as the 2D animation did. Part of what made movies like The Lion King or The Little Mermaid so great is that they took the extra mile to single handily draw out every tiny detail down to over 8 million bubbles in The Little Mermaid. It looked better because you knew it was a cartoon. Cartoons represent childlike wonder and imagination. Now, it looks more unimaginative and bland. I know CG brings out more cash than 2D animation, but to reference the Nostalgia Critic in his review of The Cat In The Hat, he stated that what the public wants isn't always what the public needs.

    Nostalgia Critic: thank you for saying what I've been telling people for years about Monsters University. I spent years wondering what happened after we hear Boo say 'Kitty'.
    Personally I liked Little Mermaid 2 and Lion King 2. But I would have preferred to see a sequel to Melody Times instead of that Atlantis sequel. (Which is a shame cause the first movie is one of my all-time favorite movies).Also have been waiting years for Narnia's 'The Silver Chair'. On terms of the original Robin Hood, Ivanhoe is a good way to make the sequel since Robin Hood is a protoganist in the novel. That makes room for new villains and Ivanhoe can be a protegee of sorts for Robin. Maybe Rowena can be his daughter since all they mention about her parents is that they were descendants of King Alfred. Either way the Walter Scott gives us plenty of new characters that can be reintroduced to the public so Disney could cash in on that.

    There actually was a plan for a Monster Inc. sequel that had something vaguely on the same line of this premise.
    After Toy Story 2, long before Disney and Pixar merged, the companies started to have serious creative conflicts. Pixar had signed a 7 film exclusive contract for Disney, so Disney would fund their first seven films, but Disney would own all the creative rights to the story/characters. Disney said that Toy Story 2 didn't actually count to Pixar's seven film deal, Steve Jobs thought it did. The studio conflicts came to a head in 2004 when Pixar said wouldn't renew their contract with Disney. In response, Disney created Circle 7 Animation studio as a negotiating tactic. Circle 7 Animation was tasked with creating sequels to Toy Story 2, Mosnter Inc, and Finding Nemo.
    As John Lasseter put it, "It's like you have these dear children and you have to give them up to be adopted by convicted child molesters."
    Circle 7 Animations got to the scripting and concept art stage of Toy Story 3 and Monster Inc. 2. Toy Story 3 would involve Buzz Lightyear being recalled back to his factory in Taiwan, while Monster Inc 2 would have involved Mike and Sully getting stuck in the human world trying to deliver a gift too Boo.
    However, in 2006 Disney saw the pure insanity of losing Pixar, so instead merged the company any made John Lasseter the head of Disney Animation, so Circle 7 Animation was closed and all the material they have produced has gradually found it's way leaked online.

    It’s interesting coming back here since Inside Out 2 has been released and the ideas Doug had for it like new emotions and the old emotions growing with Riley and emotions taking over have actually happened in the sequel.
    This is probably going to be a hot take, but I’d take Monsters University over Animal House. Ironically, I feel like MU does the plot of underprivileged fraternity house members rising to the top and defeating a stern and villain-esque university dean and a rivaling and antagonistic fraternity house much better than the latter.

    One Disney sequel I would like to see get made, is "Sword in the Stone 2".
    The continuing journey of Arthur (aka Wart) as he a year later is trying to fill the role of the newly crowned king of England, with the wizard Merlin by his side.
    The main plot of the sequel would be that a knight (one of the many knights who tried to win the crown in the tournament of the first movie) challenges Arthur's right to rule England by amassing an army to de-throne him. Aiding him is even a recovered Mad Madam Mim, who seeks revenge on Merlin for the magic duel.
    Mim plans to get back at Merlin and Arthur by using the aid of the female squirrel from the first movie, who is still in love with Arthur and is tricked into believing that his human form is a curse placed on by Merlin. She is given speech and a human form of her own to "rescue" Arthur from Merlin, thinking that Arthur would lose power and authority without his magical mentor to guide him.
    In the meantime, Arthur tries to rule a kingdom in troubled times, while also trying to reconcile with his stepbrother Kay, who has grown more distant and resentful of him now that his father Hector praises Arthur more.

      You could also add a lot of the characters from the Arthur legend in the story like the knights of the round table?

    • @BBBHuey
      @BBBHuey 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Mental Micky Maybe. But they wouldn't have much of a big role, I think.
      It would mostly be the early years of King Arthur, with Kay being the first knight of the round table along a few lesser known ones.

      The female squirrel could wind up being Lady Guinevere. And after she realizes that Madam Mim has tricked her into hurting her beloved, she helps Arthur rescue Merlin, and decide to stay human with the wizard's help so that she can stay by Arthur's side.

    I agree. If they're going to make sequels, make sequels that people actually want to see and may be a good story because the original story allows for them and the continuation. It all make sense. But instead, they just want to make a quick dollar and will make a sequel to whatever is really popular. That's Hollywood's formula.

      @@jamesgrettoons414 I love how you assume I have never watched or enjoyed any 3d animated films. I have been watching and enjoying 3d animation since it's very inception, being in HS when Toy Story came out and obsessively following all the various advancements throughout the years in both hand drawn and computer animation. I was actually excited when I saw the awesome innovations being done in Treasure Planet, with the first and only 5d character, Silver, being an amazing blend of hand drawn and computer animation, and still lament what could have happened if Disney hadn't deliberately torpedoed that film in their quest for the short dollar.
      I actually have two degrees in animation and, while hand drawn 2d animation is my first and truest love, I have modeled, textured, rigged, and animated characters in computer animation programs as well. So I speak from experience when I say that hand drawn and computer animation will never be the same. There is a joy I experience with 2d that I have never and will never experience with even the best computer animation, and a sense of profound accomplishment I only feel after working for hours on hand drawn animation--none of the fatigue and neck-pain I get fighting with a computer to do what my hand could do easier. After years of watching the 3d films degenerate into wacky animal comedies designed solely to sell Happy Meal toys and nothing more, I went to see Princess and the Frog and had that rush of joy once more, only to find that they were going to kill 2d all over again because some idiot leaked just before release that the prince was going to be white and save a black princess from a scary black man, which would be a terrible racial message, and millions of people swore they would not go to see it (a factor most people seem to have forgotten). Again, another excuse to kill hand drawn animation, even though 3d flops never count against the medium, even if every 3d animation flopped hard it would never be blamed on the medium, while a single 2d flop is always blamed on the medium no matter what. Seriously, Moana was supposed to be hand drawn 2d, but ended up 3d because Frozen was a big hit and of course that was credited to the 3d format and not, you know, a new story with two female leads and a love subplot that involved sisters rather than lovers, and a flipping earworm of a song. Nope, it's all because of the computer animation, lets bury hand drawn animation for a third time!
      I wouldn't have such an objection to computer animation if it didn't seem hell-bent on eliminating every form of animation or sfx that ever came before it. As I said, when I saw Deep Canvas and 5d Silver from Treasure Planet, I was excited and looking forward to what else could be done. Disney used to be phenomenal, defining the entire industry, but now it's just one drop in a huge flood of invariably cgi work that looks identical to everything else. Disney used to be the innovation center of both the industry and the art, and now they are reduced to buying up every other existing property because they no longer stand out from the competition, and that is unbelievably sad.
      You might be interested to know that I have actually seen those movies in your list when my nieces wanted to and, I'm sorry, but they don't do anything for me (and no, computer animation never looks like hand-drawn 2d, it only ever looks like simply colored and somewhat flattened 3d, which is precisely why Disney started looking into that Paperman method of hand-tracing to make 3d look like 2d--because there is a moment-to-moment executive decision-making element to hand drawn, a very human-perception based randomness that computers cannot and will not be able to reproduce--and yet Paperman still looks like 3d to me because it pretty much is 3d and still allows 3d to do most of the design work). Not everyone is enamoured of what computer animation is putting out these days.
      I stopped watching cgi for two reasons--first, because they simply don't interest me anymore (they never gave me the pure joy that hand drawn animation does to begin with), and second, they are working to eliminate even the memory of hand drawn animation with all these remakes and reboots, and I refuse to play along. Maybe if the computer animation wasn't largely being done as a cynical cash-grab with very little artistry, or if computer animation wasn't trying to eliminate the only form of animation that has ever made me feel alive, it would be different, but to watch it these days is like watching someone getting rich while murdering your children.
      And it would be doubly so if they did a bunch of cgi remakes of their hand drawn work. I already refuse to watch remakes/reboots at all, as a matter of principle and with very very few exceptions, but I would gladly stand in the way of an oncoming truck before I would "give a chance" to anything that is a computer animated or live-action remake of hand drawn animation. At least in the old days, I could enjoy computer animated films for their story, but now it just makes me sick to look at them. And I'm afraid that is not going to change until computer animation stops sucking all the air out of the room and allows some diversity to come back in.
      And I mean that. I actually enjoy watching Trolls now, because they put out a hand-drawn animated Netflix series. When computer animation learns to share, I can learn to give it a chance.
