I don’t like RDJ being a Tony Stark that ends up being Doctor Doom. Doom says the most poetic, badass and coldest things that I don’t think Tony Stark could say . For me. Cast a new actor and let them run with Doom. He needs aura, presence and most importantly a strong dynamic with these characters. I think they should honestly make a Doom solo film. Doctor Doom: Triumph and Torment. Either make it a Doom solo film or Doctor Strange 3. That paring is a really important paring and shows new elements to Doom’s character. He’s not like Thanos where he is this otherworldly villain. He can fight Spider-Man (and destroy him), he can have a war with Wakanda and get their vibranium because his heart is pure because he genuinely wants best for the world, he can team up with Strange so he can free his mother from hell. He’s THE Marvel villain not because he looks cool (that helps) but he can fit into anything and it still be impactful. I say Marvel should pivot to Doom. I think Doom should’ve always been the plan and I don’t think they should waste such an important character or RDJ’s return like this.
I agree with Coy, if you're counting Infinity War and Endgame as one film because of the narrative then Civil War is an Avenger's film because of the scale of cast.

I totally get Coy's "devil's advocate" take. If we were to parse a negative, then yes it does kinda seem like Marvel isn't taking risks like they've ALWAYS done. But that being said, the Russo's have been proven directors within the MCU, and have helmed 4 of the most critically and financially successful films in the franchise. They have proven that they can tell a compelling and easy-to-follow story while juggling multiple (too many) characters in one movie. For all the complaints that the MCU has gotten in Phases 4 & 5, you have to acknowledge that they took some REAL creative swings and risks that they wouldn't have during the Infinity Saga; and they did so by both hiring directors who you wouldn't necessarily think could work within the MCU template (ie. Chloe Zhao, Sam Raimi), or letting some of the established directors really cook (ie. Taika Waititi, James Gunn, Ryan Coogler, Peyton Reed). However, as someone who still loves the MCU, both good & "bad", I have to acknowledge that the risks overall (while I certainly love some of them) haven't gone over well with the general public and hardcore fans alike, citing choices that either stray too far from what they've done well before, or choices that simply don't work within this franchise. We keep hearing from fans that "Marvel needs to go back to how they did things before." While I don't think they should stop taking creative risks, I also understand that considering the lukewarm reactions more recent entries have gotten, the powers that be do have to re-evaluate, and see what they've done wrong, by going back and seeing what they did right in the first place. Now, if the Russo's actually do get the job, we still have to wait and see what they cook. Because we also have to consider too that the Russo's, post-Endgame haven't had much success either. Them and Marvel coming together for these two "Avengers" movies could be the right situation, at the right time, and the right circumstance, to ensure that these entries are the best they could be.

That means *anyone else* could have variants...but maybe not Tony? Maybe the multiverse breaking *gives us Doctor Doom* by way of a person who looks like, but is not, Tony Stark? Remember, they use these comics as jumping-off points, not source material for direct adaptations (mostly). We could have Sam Wilson fighting an evil Steve Rogers, Jennifer Walters fighting an evil Bruce Banner, Kate Bishop fighting an evil Clint Barton, Kamala Khan fighting an evil Carol Danvers, and on and on. But perhaps Downey is Doom as the Ultimate Evil in that he was, until that point, our paragon of the subversive sacrifice. Is it pissing on the death to do that? I dunno. Maybe. But that's the point of subversion: It's never clean or nice, and it forces us to reckon with it.

I don't think I'd want the Tony who emerged from the cave but an older, disillusioned Stark, but I have no idea how that'd work relative to the comics, I just want to see a well-written story that needs to be told instead of something just bolted together on the Marvel assembly line.

The Russos coming back to direct next 2 Avengers films is a smart move. Now the dumber one is casting RDJ as Dr Doom. That one sounds of desperation to have a 1 billion box office hit. I loved The Boys Season 4, and it's much better than the comic it's based on. My Adventures with Superman is such a great combination blending the comic book characters with anime style of animation.

I don't understand why some people are complaining about this idea. First of all, we're in the "Multiverse" saga. Secondly, Doom is pretty much just a variant of Stark in the comics. An independently wealthy super genius with a suit of armor that allows him to contend on an even playing field with what are basically Gods. He's just evil instead of good. I think it fits.
I think doom is already in the MCU. And is from the ff alt universe. We don’t know what Tim period they’re gonna join the MCU in. Doesn’t have to be modern day, could’ve been here for years already just have been lowkey
I hope this rumor comes true and I’ll take it a step further to suggest they should also have Chris Evans come back as Hydra Cap. Have the other older cast members come as their heroic counterparts from other universes but have RDJ and Evans come back as villains. That’s a fascinating twist as opposed to just having them play minor variations of the characters we already know. Make it interesting for these guys to come back by making them the antagonists
I don't like the idea of RDJ as Doom. Iron Man breaking bad does not equate to Doom. Doom is the blend of tech and magic. In the comics you could say T'Challa breaking bad you could end up with a Doom (though Wakanda's mystic stuff is less full on Dr Strange magic and more about they spiritualism and the vibranium). I also just don't see RDJ giving the vibe I need for Doom.
I know Disney would never do it but Johnny Depp be a great Doom and you also bring him back Tony but keep him a Stark Who Quit and just doesnt want to fight anymore but maybe in end a hero be a better idea but MCU needs an Iron man or a Steve Rodgers I think to work
I love phase 4 and phase 5. They take risks and was more creativity than any other phases. You need risks to make marvel relevant for the next 20-30 years. Russo brothers are the safest pick but they make the best comic books movies of all time 💯

Honestly, Robert Downey Jr coming back as Dr Doom could be awesome. Hear me out… Imagine he shows up from another universe and people recognize him and celebrate that Tony’s back only to realize that he has horrible intentions. You’d have to change Dr Doom’s origin but you could have it that in another universe, Stark goes insane and takes over the planet, maybe the planet is named Latveria instead of Earth. Maybe in this other world, his name is Victor instead of Tony. He becomes obsessed with being the best there is, finds and kills Kang in his universe, taking over his dominion and using Kang’s technology to try to take over other universes, killing Avengers teams and Kang variants in many different universes. Maybe he sees that in every universe Iron Man dies and that’s what drives him mad. He could also be disfigured and builds his Doom suit to hide his appearance and siphons power from his universe’s Kang and Dr Strange. Could be a badass villain!

I don't understand why some people are complaining about this idea. First of all, we're in the "Multiverse" saga. Secondly, Doom is pretty much just a variant of Stark in the comics. An independently wealthy super genius with a suit of armor that allows him to contend on an even playing field with what are basically Gods. He's just evil instead of good. I think it fits.

I hope this rumor comes true and I’ll take it a step further to suggest they should also have Chris Evans come back as Hydra Cap. Have the other older cast members come as their heroic counterparts from other universes but have RDJ and Evans come back as villains. That’s a fascinating twist as opposed to just having them play minor variations of the characters we already know. Make it interesting for these guys to come back by making them the antagonists

I don't like the idea of RDJ as Doom. Iron Man breaking bad does not equate to Doom. Doom is the blend of tech and magic. In the comics you could say T'Challa breaking bad you could end up with a Doom (though Wakanda's mystic stuff is less full on Dr Strange magic and more about they spiritualism and the vibranium). I also just don't see RDJ giving the vibe I need for Doom.
I know Disney would never do it but Johnny Depp be a great Doom and you also bring him back Tony but keep him a Stark Who Quit and just doesnt want to fight anymore but maybe in end a hero be a better idea but MCU needs an Iron man or a Steve Rodgers I think to work
I love phase 4 and phase 5. They take risks and was more creativity than any other phases. You need risks to make marvel relevant for the next 20-30 years. Russo brothers are the safest pick but they make the best comic books movies of all time 💯

Honestly, Robert Downey Jr coming back as Dr Doom could be awesome. Hear me out…
Imagine he shows up from another universe and people recognize him and celebrate that Tony’s back only to realize that he has horrible intentions. You’d have to change Dr Doom’s origin but you could have it that in another universe, Stark goes insane and takes over the planet, maybe the planet is named Latveria instead of Earth. Maybe in this other world, his name is Victor instead of Tony. He becomes obsessed with being the best there is, finds and kills Kang in his universe, taking over his dominion and using Kang’s technology to try to take over other universes, killing Avengers teams and Kang variants in many different universes. Maybe he sees that in every universe Iron Man dies and that’s what drives him mad. He could also be disfigured and builds his Doom suit to hide his appearance and siphons power from his universe’s Kang and Dr Strange. Could be a badass villain!
