Attacking mentality and countering is at odds with each other for me, keep it neutral, the team will decide whether to hold onto the ball or counter and take advantage of the space in behind. Also, tight marking and get stuck in is extremely aggressive, if you are missing tackles and letting the opposition get past you too much, this could be why
Playing offside with 3 CB's is asking for it as well, 2 CB's is hard enough, 3 coordinating is very hard. Sack that off and stick a covering CB in the middle
So a couple of bullet points I took from this 1.Your shape determines how you should press for example I'm playing a 4141 deep and I want to counter attack play some negative football, you would instantly think, so I need a deep defensive line and not too much pressing right? No wrong, 4141 is already very very deep so you will be defending deep anyways so adding a deep defensive line would be overkill and you be so pinned back you can't get out no matter how good you are at setting roles and duties, so in a deep shape you need to be more aggressive otherwise you are a sitting duck. 2. Even if you don't like it, you have to catter somewhat to the match engine likes and works. 3. At the beginning watch games on extended or even full match for a bit so you don't feel lost at the end. 4. Touching on the point of formations again if you want to Press high something like a 4-2-3-1 would be perfect, but like the 4141 you can't be too deep in a aggressive 4-2-3-1 you can't be too aggressive
This is a brilliant post! 1. The mentality obviously plays a part too, but if you look at previous fm's on extended or comprehensive and see how a flat 442 presses and defends you'll see even with maximum pressing, they'll still get into a deeper defensive shape far quicker then you would expect and probably want! I would say if you are in a deep system like my 3-5-2 yeah you should personally as a starting point! but like I mentioned there's more then one way to be successful! 2. If you're playing to win I would recommend this if you're noticing certain things working better! 3. Absolutely i'm certain there will be 1 or 2 things you will notice that you would have skipped over going straight into key. The DLP would have been one of them for me ! 4. Those would be starting points I would say being too negative in a bottom heavy formation is worse then too aggressive in a top heavy one. Top heavy pressing tactics have been known to work although it's something Sports Interactive seem to be aware of and I would expect the match engine to eventually punish teams for this!
Creating chances isn’t a problem for me. Finishing them is what kills me. My players just rarely score. Either miss or hit the woodwork or the keeper pulls out something insane. But if they are offside they always score
actually very interesting ive never really seen it relate this much to real life, usually analysis of this kind is just trying to get the best out of the match engine
I love these kind of videos instead of when you just download some random tactic and talk about that - this is actually educational (In my opinion you should NEVER download a tactic - takes all the actual Football Manager-part out of the game)! :D
I'm currently playing with FC Porto and I'm using a 4-3-3 with a DM playing as an Anchor, two CM, one playing as a Mezzala and the other one playing as a Box to Box. Then I have two Inverted Forwards and one Pressing Forward. So far I'm first place in the Portuguese league, 7 points away from the second place Benfica and still haven't lost a match in the league (currently 12 games) and only had one 2-2 draw against Braga. However, in the Champions League it's a different story... lost against Inter Milan 7-3, lost against Man Utd 4-1, drew with Man Utd 1-1 at home and won against Dyanmo Kiev 2-0. So... off to Europa League I go...
You should make a more defensive tactic for the champions league. I guess you are playing very attacking in the league and you are getting very good results there because FC Porto is one of the best teams in Portugal. So maybe you should try something else in the ucl.
@@theChampionBoy problem is Porto lacks good center backs other than Pepe and Porto starts with very little money. I sold Mbemba to Chelsea but had no money to buy other players either because I had no budget for them or they surpassed my salary budget. So I had to go and get defenders from team B. I will play next game with Inter more defensively... thinking of putting two defensive midfielders. Next transfer window I will reinforce the squad. I'm going to sell Toni Martinez to Juventus and Corona to Barcelona. Two big transfers.
I play my full save in comprehensive and sometimes I watch the full match if I find us turning possession over too easily during goal kicks and throw ins
i dont get it, i pick 352 yet i get a weird 3-5-1-1 quasi, currently playing with crystal palace and when i go to put the wingers back to wingback it says im playing 5-3-2
i didn’t understand anything in this video think i’ve gotta research into a somewhat simpler area of tactics first bc i have no clue when it comes to anything in tactics at all
Do you build your own tactics? Tell us about your successes below.
You need to get team fluidity to fluid if possible, structured doesn't seem right for the philosophy you are trying to acheive
@@vintageape9833 Thanks for the comment! I did cover this topic originally in the video but it didn't make the final cut apologies!

@@joaquimfranciscomagalhaes8928 Ok. Then you can't do any better. Next season improve your team then. 👍👍
I used a sort of similar tactic with Derby and managed to finish 10th with them in my first season I had different player roles though
Very good, please more of that!
