Hell yeah (no pun intended) Skyrionn I'm loving these Doom lore videos. The writing for the most recent games was excellent, and there's still a lot of uncovered subtleties to be explored
There were two points in this video that caused some confusion to me. Firstly, when they were tasked to find a cure for mortality you mentioned they did so but later on you talk about the whole transfiguration process that the Maykr go through so they didn't actually find a cure or was it just not a cure for their own mortality? You also spoke about the Khan Maykr and it seemed like they had one prior to the father ascending so why is it that the last Khan Maykr remained in power past the 10,000 years? Surely they must have had a way to do this process without the father if he wasn't present when it was first done. Great video, this isn't a criticism just curious.
i never got to beat the most recent doom butt like watching these lore videos on the Doom universe. So did the Seraph seal Doom Slayer into a, essentially, a stasis chamber? To come back when hes needed most again?
I believe that you will become well known, for your intelligent and historical videos alike, for this epic game, as documentaries, in a sort of way! 👏👏👏
I do hope there's a way to save the Maykrs. The punishment for their later hubris has been dealt. Samur is out of the picture, Davoth is dust, VEGA/Father is more or less impotent, and the Khan Maykr has been beaten into a bloody pulp. They have been humbled, thoroughly.
The Earth of Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal wasn't the same Earth Doomguy came from. It is one of the many Earths in existence in Doom universe. I recall one piece of Khan Maykr promising to send Doomguy back to the Earth he came from, to which he couldn't return to.
Uhm. We don't go to earth in 2016. And if we did. It would he the same earth. The earth from DOOM 1, 2, Sigil, Sigil 2, No Rest For The Living, Final DOOM, and 64 are in the same earth, but DOOM 3, Resurrection Of Evil, 2016, Eternal, TAG1, TAG2 are a different earth.
People say DOOM is a Christian game, and while I, as a Christian myself, definitely enjoy killing demons in the game, it's really more close to Gnosticism. While Gnosticism is considered heresy, I still think it's interesting to think about and I can't wait to see where DOOM takes this idea in the future
I honestly felt kinda conflicted for a bit , but once I found out that this wasn't "Doomguy is killing God" and this was way more different from the Bible it got rid of the confusion. The game isn't focused on directly explaining things to you, but I also don't like breaking up the fast paced adrenaline rush gameplay to read a codex entry.
@@alexwoods8927 Well, according to Id, DOOM: The Dark Ages will have the narrative more mixed in with the gameplay, so it won't just be a bunch of codex entries. So that'll hopefully be more interesting
I think DOOM's lore is more closer to Gnosticism rather than Christianity. Let me explain: Davoth/The Father = The Demiurge The Makyrs = Angels, the servants of the Demiurge Whoever created Davoth/possibly the voice that yells "NOOOO" when the Khan Makyr dies = Monad, the true creator God Wraiths = Servants of Monad It's implied that there are things above Davoth, and Davoth, creator of Jekkad, Urdak, and the Earth realms though he be, still has his limits (being unable to create immortal life). This is very similar to how the Gnostics viewed Yahweh/the Demiurge, simply as the God of the physical reality, despite claiming to be the God of everything. Though DOOM's lore may go in a more lovecraftian direction aesthetic-wise, I think it could still be seen as similar to Gnosticism. I don't think Monad will appear in DOOM by name, much like how the Demiurge figure is called Davoth/The Father (Depending on who is currently in power), we'll likely get a completely unique entity who simply plays the same role as Monad, as the creator of all things and truly all-powerful God. Can't wait to see where the lore goes in the future!
@@user-bl7em8sx6o Yeah, but that's just surface-level details, when you look at the role the makyrs play in the lore, it more closely resembles gnosticism
Doom was never my kind of game, but I was curious about the lore and it seems quite interesting. Mostly because I like the Maykr design, being a sucker for non-biological humanoids. The combination of an angel with a robot makes for a really striking visual image.
This was great. I stopped playing after Doom 2016. I like it, but just haven't gotten into the new titles, so it was nice to have the story laid out. I'm curious what they'll do when they reboot Quake.
Ngl, I love Doom, I think it does what it sets out to do by being a power fantasy very well. I absolutely hate how they decided to represent things like Angels, Heaven, their backstory for the Demons and Hell, and the very clunky story with the Doom Slayer’s time in Argent D’Nur. I don’t get why they didn’t just go with actual biblical lore instead of twisting it into this weird H.R. Giger multidimensional war. WHY DO THE ANGELS LOOK LIKE DEMONS UNDER THE ARMOR
@@SkibidiToiletiscringe- No, actually. Angels do not look like demons, they look like angels. Not everything “otherworldly” or “scary” is demonic. Usually the representation of more violently predatory features are what constitute as demonic. A spinning wheel of eyes is otherworldly but not predatory or demonic in nature.
One question i have even thought i have seen the video about davoth, my question is who created him like did he just appear or did some one else make him. Also literally if samer maker never listend to the father the worlds would be more screwed then they where already
Is it just me or was the a soft reboot between Doom(2016) and Doom Eternal. Their a lot of details that don't sync up. Reminds me of the soft reboot between Dead Space 1 and 2.
The lore is pretty good, but it gets pretty contrived and stupid when it gets to the point of the father being turned into Vega, and Samer into Samuel Hayden.. really REALLY contrived. First of which, why Earth of everywhere he could go? What makes Earth such a safe place? It's only been invaded by Hell like 4 times previously. Why an AI? Why a human? It's just really stupid and obvious stretching to make Doom Eternal and Doom 2016 linked.
Whenever a world springs forth from a god figure without them realizing I just imagine they farted while walking and you never look behind you when you fart so they just keep walking unaware they farted a galaxy out there cosmic azz
I was loving the game until the maykers. I really dont like the “heaven and the angels are evil also God is awal/evil” trope. I just think its boring. (And it hurts my fee fees angels are the good guys)
There are really two ways to look at NuDoom's plot: 1) It's a heavy metal concept album like something Rhapsody (of Fire) would make. Sure there's words but it's usually incoherent screaming. And somehow the whole thing just works because at the end of the day, you're having an experience, not receiving the first tablets of law or whatever. 2) It's a bog-standard Bethesda game where they didn't bother with competent high level writing to make sure the themes all gelled and the world bible wasn't a huge contradictory mess. So...yes, the writing is confusing and dumb. But you know what? Boomer shooters use plot in the same way arcade fighters do--it's just connective tissue to get you from the spectacle that just happened to the spectacle that's just beginning. For a doom reboot that level of writing feels about right. It's not meant to be Shakespeare.
who the hell wrote all this, this epic fantasy setting only lacks some space gnomes and stuff. Doom Eternal's lore is a dog's fever dream. I prefer when it was og hard-fi in Doom 16. The more I check lore of Doom Eternal the more I think it's stupid as all hell.
Yeah but that wouldn't work with how far games have come. Ppl would need an explanation for why the different levels and worlds look the way they do. I wouldn't just want to kill the same demons in a 10 hour campaign with 0 story
As much as I enjoy a fleshed-out backstory, does anyone miss the old Doom story of just "rip and tear the demons because demons are assholes who put bunnies heads on pikes"?
That's still the backstory though to my understanding, the events of the original doom games should still be canon. Notice he has the original doom armor on in the inscriptions of his time first reaching Argent D'Nur

Hell yeah (no pun intended) Skyrionn I'm loving these Doom lore videos. The writing for the most recent games was excellent, and there's still a lot of uncovered subtleties to be explored
Amazing video, i enjoyed it entirely, thank you, i subscribed.
Thanks for being here!
A ruler of a race, given the title of “khan".
Guess it was a slow day in the writing room when they came up with that one.
Guess it's better than emperor
I've seen the images of actual angels from bible and looking at back at the Maykrs they look very accurate
Gonna have to look those up myself
There are no images of angels from the Bible lol.
They're not accurate at all.
Excellent stuff. Always a pleasure to find a great lore channel, and the top notch narration is definitely a plus.
Next up: demons of full doom lore explained
There were two points in this video that caused some confusion to me. Firstly, when they were tasked to find a cure for mortality you mentioned they did so but later on you talk about the whole transfiguration process that the Maykr go through so they didn't actually find a cure or was it just not a cure for their own mortality? You also spoke about the Khan Maykr and it seemed like they had one prior to the father ascending so why is it that the last Khan Maykr remained in power past the 10,000 years? Surely they must have had a way to do this process without the father if he wasn't present when it was first done. Great video, this isn't a criticism just curious.
Can't believe Makyr fell off due to daddy issues, us frfr
This is the best comment.
Just like me fr
Urdak was darker and more desolate than any of those hell levels.
Amazing work and through explanation!
Never heard the Doom story in any way at all. This opened a lot of things
i never got to beat the most recent doom butt like watching these lore videos on the Doom universe. So did the Seraph seal Doom Slayer into a, essentially, a stasis chamber? To come back when hes needed most again?
Exactly
I believe that you will become well known, for your intelligent and historical videos alike, for this epic game, as documentaries, in a sort of way! 👏👏👏
Let's goooo! Are you going to do one on the Argenta?
One day ☺
I do hope there's a way to save the Maykrs. The punishment for their later hubris has been dealt. Samur is out of the picture, Davoth is dust, VEGA/Father is more or less impotent, and the Khan Maykr has been beaten into a bloody pulp. They have been humbled, thoroughly.
Nah they need to go. I’m glad the maykers are dead
@@jackcalkins4232you need to go
@@user-bl7em8sx6o I can’t even see my original comment. What did I say?
I had a strong feeling the Maykrs were initially good. Thanks for thr awesome video!
The earth from DOOM 1, 2, Sigil,
Sigil 2, No Rest For The Living, Final DOOM, and 64 are in the same earth, but DOOM 3, Resurrection Of Evil, 2016, Eternal, TAG1, TAG2 are a different earth.
Wooooooo new Doom video!!
So if the Father had the power of the Father enter him, doesn’t that mean he could become the new Father?
So that'll hopefully be more interesting
need this man to cover wasteland 2 or 3 rn
So in conclusion, the Makyr were incredib.y dumb
They had one good idea, sealing away a god that was slowly losing his mind. After that it was downhill from there.
I think DOOM's lore is more closer to Gnosticism rather than Christianity. Let me explain:
Davoth/The Father = The Demiurge
The Makyrs = Angels, the servants of the Demiurge
Whoever created Davoth/possibly the voice that yells "NOOOO" when the Khan Makyr dies = Monad, the true creator God
Wraiths = Servants of Monad
It's implied that there are things above Davoth, and Davoth, creator of Jekkad, Urdak, and the Earth realms though he be, still has his limits (being unable to create immortal life).
There's crosses everywhere you look in urdak...
@@user-bl7em8sx6o Yeah, but that's just surface-level details, when you look at the role the makyrs play in the lore, it more closely resembles gnosticism
But if you think about it, he also was super strong for a human
Doom was never my kind of game, but I was curious about the lore and it seems quite interesting. Mostly because I like the Maykr design, being a sucker for non-biological humanoids. The combination of an angel with a robot makes for a really striking visual image.
This was great. I stopped playing after Doom 2016. I like it, but just haven't gotten into the new titles, so it was nice to have the story laid out. I'm curious what they'll do when they reboot Quake.
Rip And Tear 💪🏻
Rip and Tear!
Thought about showing the Serious Sam Series? One of my favorites 🎉🎉
This is INSANE!!
Becuse thats how Angels look in Bible
@@SkibidiToiletiscringe- No, actually. Angels do not look like demons, they look like angels. Not everything “otherworldly” or “scary” is demonic. Usually the representation of more violently predatory features are what constitute as demonic. A spinning wheel of eyes is otherworldly but not predatory or demonic in nature.
Because they wanted to make an interesting story instead of regurgitating one that was never any good.
One question i have even thought i have seen the video about davoth, my question is who created him like did he just appear or did some one else make him. Also literally if samer maker never listend to the father the worlds would be more screwed then they where already
He apparently was just the first spirit in a void. Like a ball of light that created everything around him
I always felt like Kahn Maykr's face looked like the spider mastermind. Is that just a coincidence?
Maybe Doom Dark Ages will expand more
New doom game been leaked for 2025
Overconfidence is a slow and incidious killer...
It would be awesome if you make a castlevania lords of shadow saga how about the castle or Dracula or vampires
I actually haven't played them. They're on my list though!
@@Skyrionncool
Is it just me or was the a soft reboot between Doom(2016) and Doom Eternal. Their a lot of details that don't sync up. Reminds me of the soft reboot between Dead Space 1 and 2.
Yay new skyrionn
Welcome welcome
They and their leader were the real villians of doom
How they ended huh? They ended WITH ME
So doom is all about ai going too far to achieve their goal?
The Maykrs were a mistake.
Deffo in the eyes of Davoth
The lore is pretty good, but it gets pretty contrived and stupid when it gets to the point of the father being turned into Vega, and Samer into Samuel Hayden.. really REALLY contrived. First of which, why Earth of everywhere he could go? What makes Earth such a safe place? It's only been invaded by Hell like 4 times previously. Why an AI? Why a human? It's just really stupid and obvious stretching to make Doom Eternal and Doom 2016 linked.
On no! Not.... The Bad
Kinda bummed out that the Doomslayer turned out to be blessed with some kind of divine energy and not just pure testosterone and adrenaline. 😅😅
It's both. Lol
Whenever a world springs forth from a god figure without them realizing I just imagine they farted while walking and you never look behind you when you fart so they just keep walking unaware they farted a galaxy out there cosmic azz
I'm suprised this hasn't gotten a like it made me chuckle
I just realized family guy made this exact same joke. Did you get it from that lol?
I was loving the game until the maykers. I really dont like the “heaven and the angels are evil also God is awal/evil” trope.
I just think its boring. (And it hurts my fee fees angels are the good guys)
Wou..
The father is a twisted lying piece of shit. The only god that’s heroic is the slayer
Bruh stay on your meds. It's just a game
Do a lore video on why there is sweetcorn in my poo
That'll be a 5 hour video
Doom the story based on bible where both heaven and hell are evil
Basically yeah
"Heaven" is subjective. That's how the Makyrs would see it
Got a warhammer ad before this, wrong game bud
The Doom backstory is stupid, convoluted, confusing, and dumb.
Wrong
It’s not lol
There are really two ways to look at NuDoom's plot:
1) It's a heavy metal concept album like something Rhapsody (of Fire) would make.
I just can't. Eternal lore is just... no.
Shut up
who the hell wrote all this, this epic fantasy setting only lacks some space gnomes and stuff. Doom Eternal's lore is a dog's fever dream. I prefer when it was og hard-fi in Doom 16. The more I check lore of Doom Eternal the more I think it's stupid as all hell.
It's DOOM lore. Wtf do you expect?
This is dnd lore, tharizdun and the shard of inf.evil...
Not a fan of DOOM having 'lore', original game kept it simple, that was its charm
Yeah but that wouldn't work with how far games have come. Ppl would need an explanation for why the different levels and worlds look the way they do. I wouldn't just want to kill the same demons in a 10 hour campaign with 0 story
new age stuff kinda sucks makes it all into a syfi hell is just a space jail
the maykr has fallen, billions must die
As much as I enjoy a fleshed-out backstory, does anyone miss the old Doom story of just "rip and tear the demons because demons are assholes who put bunnies heads on pikes"?
Nope
Gonna be real here... not at all
That's still the backstory though to my understanding, the events of the original doom games should still be canon. Notice he has the original doom armor on in the inscriptions of his time first reaching Argent D'Nur
Yes
"Subcribe to win the game" i think you have my sub. I have fallen to the lord @Skyrionn
