  • DNS Forward Zone Configuration is demonstrated here. Each domain contains two zones files: a forward zone file and a reverse zone file, which are used during domain hosting. The forward zone file was detailed in this section.
DNS zones are divided into two categories: forward zone and reverse zone. We needed to generate zone files on the DNS server during domain hosting, and we definitely did so on the Primary or Master DNS server, not the Secondary or Caching DNS server. A forward zone file is created for the name to IP mapping, and a reverse zone file is created for IP to name mapping. To host a domain's DNS records, the forward zone file is required. The forward zone file contains all of a domain's key DNS records, such as the mail server, web server, and DNS server. A forward query is a process of obtaining an IP address from a hostname by querying the forward zone. The reverse query, as described in the reverse zone file, is used to find a hostname from an IP address. In this video, I go over the forward zone file in detail and test the DNS with a variety of queries.

I have a question that comes to mind
We assume that we have 5 records, all of them with the same domain name, and each record has a different IP
    Why when requesting query
The Name Serverin Response brings me all five records, not one or two
    Is this constant in dns?
Or there something that can control this? I mean two records only go not the five

Thanks for explaining in a nice and easy way, i have three domains registered with godaddy using my single public ip, i want to host them locally on three different computers, how will i configure my dns forward lookup zone so that when page request comes in it sent to a related pc, or if I'm wrong, please let me know what is the right way doing this. thanks

Hi, you cannot Configure a Public DNS on Private Computers, You can configure same domain on Private network, that will be called private DNS, What is your objective ? what are you trying to do actually ?

@@mailserverguru I have three public domains registered with godaddy and I updated my static IP on it, I have three computers setup to host websites for each domain, by doing a port forwarding I can point one website at a time, but i want to publish all three hosting computers using one static ip, i came to know that dns server can help me on this, i know that this can be done through reverse proxy but i do not want to use that method.

@@sairfan06 OK, this is very simple, first of all i will suggest you, to configure only one server for 3 websites or web applications, that will be more easier to manage. from the 3 domains for your A record you will point to that ip, lets say, you have mailserverguru1.com, mailserverguru2.com and mailserverguru3.com, now on each domains DNS zone, you need to define an A record point to that single IP, thats it. on the other hand, if you have 3 dedicated ip that is same, from the 3 domains A record will be 3 different ip. and finally you already can guess your answer, from that 3 domain you will define A record and provide the same IP to all of the A record, it will work perfectly. thanks

Hi, i got your point, as from the internet all 3 domains traffic will come to one IP and you want to deliver the content from different pc, in that case you must implemet reverse proxy, revers proxy will see the url then it will direct respective pc for the url. this is the way it must be done. otherwise you can setup a control panel inside and port forward from the router to that control panel server, or you can assign the public ip to directly control panel, that will work also. thanks.
