    I don't think he was trying to offend you or anyone in any way. He was more or less trying to say that it isn't commonly used in the US which is where he lives and about 98% of his viewers also live. Therefor,he wasn't going to spend too much time reviewing it. Besides I think he got the just of it. I learned a lot. I didn't understand it when my teacher was explaining it today. :-)

    Spanish doesn't tend to capitalize things as much as we do in English.
    yo is simply 'yo'

  • @perseo007
    @perseo007 14 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You can use "Ustedes" instead of "vosotros-as" and even if you are in spain people will understand you. 90% of the spanish speakers in the world use "ustedes" form and only "10%" of the speakers (only in spain) use "vosostros" form. In latin america we study "vosotros" form at primary school, but we never use it in our regular life. If someone in latin america speaks you with "vosotros" form people will look to you like a weird person unless you are from spain. I hope this info will help you ;)

    It's simply to explain the concept to students who have no concept of gender with words, because English has long since lost word gender.
    I'm not making a judgment call on all Spanish speakers being macho. I'd be ignorant and erroneous to attempt something to that effect.

    I live in CA and my instructor is from Spain and he gives us a few tips on the derivative of the language but focuses on the South American pronoun cation because the majority of the Spanish spoken in our area is from South America. He does have some really cool tips on the overlapping/influences from the Islamic languages. It is a harder way to learn because I keep getting mixed up with all the extra information, but hopefully I'll figure it out.

    TENEMOS = WE HAVE (e.g. "tenemos" dos perros = we "have" two dogs) OR WE ARE (e.g. Pedro y yo "tenemos" veintinueve años = Pedro and I "are" twenty-nine years old), ("tenemos" calor = we "are" hot). Hope it helps!

  •  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @tontitofrito it's ok the way you explain it , we still use "nosotros" in all hispanic countries, even if there is only a guy included not matter if the majority are girls, if you use nosotras its like if you were excluding the guy and it's not that we are machistas it is just the way the language works just as u said it :) but if u want to u can also say ellas y él

    That's interesting about the male dominating language. It reminds me of how in English when we want to say "you all" informally, we say "you guys", and that's true whether the people we are talking to are male female or a mixed gender group. I don't know if this is said all over the US, but I'm in the west and I hear it often.

    To clarify, do you mean to say that it is common for people to use ellos/ellas/nosotros/nosotras depending on the majority of the people in the group?
    My wife curiously just uses "nosotros" for all times even if they are all women. I think this is a small town tendency since she is from a small town in Mexico.
