Thats how to trash a fish. There are a lot of videos on fish handling skills out there. That "slimy" stuff is part of their immune system. You should wet your hands before you touch the and handle it as little as you can so you dont wipe it off and leave the fish in a vulnerable stste . Leaving the fish out of the water for more that 20 seconds can damage there gilld. Its good you got your photo opprotunity though and had the time to talk about how cold it was while holding the fish. There eyes are fragile and susceptible to damage. Letting it flop around in the rocks and then dropping it on the rocks is poor fish handling. Netting a fish will help keep the slime on it and help prevent it from injuring itself by flopping around. 2:30 you are pretty far from a trout god. If you actually want to take care of the fish and return it to the water in a healthy condition learn what you are doing before you fish again.

I bet ripping it by it’s mouth with a hook isn’t great either

There is a constructive way to educate sustainable fly fishing. Kevin, that’s not it.
Definitely opportunity for improvement on the handling piece, but the kid has enthusiasm and love the hunt. Let’s do our part to keep people interested while showing them how to ensure the next generation still had fish around to catch.
Nice video and enjoy the passion. I would advise a net and some you tube time in how to properly handle them to make sure they are healthy on release. Trout in particular are sensitive fish and require a little more TLC. Keep it up man!
