I looked into the lore and some of the reasons that the NCPD is so bad at their jobs besides corrupt leaders, is because it was privatized by one of the corps years ago(most likely Arasaka). So many crimes that they do look into usually have corporate interest associated with them. And the police force is spread so thin that unless there is a cyber psycho on the loose or some major threat to the city, the city patrols are expected to deal with most crimes by themselves and can't rely on back up coming to help.
MaxTac isn't of much use either, cyberpsycho sightings side jobs wouldn't have existed if the cops and MaxTac of Night City weren't so catastrophically inefficient
I remember that little touch they added about all of the bureaucratic statistic manipulations like how there was supposedly a massive drop in crime because they stopped reporting crime in Pacifica
There's also that other one where you help two officers with one who left and see just how detrimental the job and the corruption is on the mental health of the officers within the NCPD. An interesting touch
Idk bout y'all but I think the ncpd is doing a fine job. Response time is immaculate, if I commit I crime I can't even turn around before there is an officer with a gun up my rear end. They get on the scene and swarm me with overwhelming force the instant I try any funny business, almost like they can teleport.
"700 rounds fired in an hour"...??? That's incredibly safe vs if V were there... 700 Rocket-Propelled-Smart-Rounds in the first three minutes!! I can feel for the NCPD, but I'm still gonna crack up everytime they give up trying to stop V... XD MaxTac? Mulched... Afterlife Mercs? At least the police got smart and out sourced, but even the Afterlife calls it quits once you down the second kill-squad.
Characters weren't bullet sponges in the 2020 tabletop game. A high-level solo can get wasted by a junkie with an SMG if they are unlucky or play it dumb. Characters don't progress by getting more hp, they get better at diving for cover or buying armour.

it really shows how much of a issue this is that River...a former police detective i just want to point out in the ending wants to supply civilians with confiscated weapons because he feels we need more people like V who are mercs not tied to any broken system or have any affiliation with gangs or corpos.
