This lecture is so powerful and has saved my degree. I will be mentioning this lecture in my dissertation and hope that my faculty will utilise it as I am going to. Tha will be continuously passed on from me for as long as I get the opportunity to. You don't understand what this lecture has done for my growth and my mental health. It came just in time and I cannot thank you enough.

This is a must-watch for every graduate student. Alison's comprehensive approach to her advice reaches ALL parts of a person. I feel so empowered as an individual, graduate student, and researcher after watching this video. Thank you so much for posting this video, Dissertation Coach!
    Favorite ideas from Alison's presentation:
-#1 Our worth as a human being is not defined by our performance
    - Your value as a human being is more than your dissertation
    - There's a difference between knowledge and wisdom
    - Be willing to write CRAP! (baby drafts)
    - Intelligence is malleable
    - The idea of a fixed versus a growth mindset
    - Your goal in graduate school is not to "look good." Use this time to take risks and grow.

Oh wow! That description at five minutes in is so me. I find that since beginning the dissertation I have become a huge procrastinator which is something I have never had a problem with before. I have submitted an inquiry request to the Dissertation Coach and cannot wait to hear back.

I can relate 110% to her talk. This video is just what I need, a big great huge help (currently struggling with my dissertation).
However it's really hard to believe if really a majority of doctorate students are experiencing this? I always thought that I'm one of just a few struggling phd students.

My procrastination habit was cooking on the weekends. After I had done some food prep, I'd have quick meals ready for the week, so nothing would get in the way of my weekday procrastination. 😉
In my defense, I'm also working a full time job and finishing a thesis. A lot of her points are helpful, as I've gotten too far into the perfectionism end of writing a thesis. What I'm struggling with now is my advisor's corrections to the text. I don't like accepting someone else's text corrections (even if they know a lot more than me) when it's not my own words. So I try to rewrite the paragraphs and still end up wrong.

Great talk. A suggestion: Next time, please, locate your microphone in the middle; it is really annoying the changes in the volume of the voice (sometimes I can barely hear, sometimes it's almost yelling). Thanks.

Lol. Difficulty making you stop is ego(looking smart). Not refined feedback and belief of knowing without ability to express it. Masters want to be beginners. Beginners want to be masters.
