- Fall or Autumn is the ideal time to visit Spain. The summer crowds and heat are gone!
This video will focus on taking a trip to Spain, using Madrid as your base, since airfares are usually pretty good to the hub city. Plus, in the fall, prices should be far lower than what summertime visitors will pay.

After exploring Madrid's cathedral, royal palace, Plaza Mayor, shopping boulevards, and museums, I always recommend using the excellent train system to take day trips (or overnights) in other cities.
As for day trip destinations, I’ll suggest Cuenca.
It’s an hour away by train from Madrid to explore the old cobblestone streets of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Cuenca’s most famous feature are the “Hanging Houses” or “Casas Colgadas.”
They were built, seemingly impossibly, on rock cliffs over the gorge below during medieval times.
Toledo is worth an overnight stay, even though it’s just 40 minutes by train from Madrid.
There’s a lot to explore, from the city’s 14th Century bridge, to the Toledo Cathedral, to the restaurants along the pedestrian-friendly streets.
Cordoba is a bigger city, about two-hours from Madrid on the high-speed train.
The Mosque-Cathedral (Mezquita-Catedral) is another UNESCO site to explore in this part of Spain.
Malaga is three hours south of Madrid, on the Mediterranean Sea.
It has a coastal feel, with its markets, shopping boulevards, outdoor cafes, and beaches.
Fall weather is great for exploring the city's historic sites like a cathedral, Roman amphitheater, and ancient fortresses on the hilltops.
For me, it comes down to the weather. With temperatures usually in the 70s, October is the perfect month for exploring Spain.
