for people struggling with muting....learn to play scales with noise control first....it helps a lot trust me!!! I did the same and it is lot more easier now.

Imagine the riff is made of low notes (BA) and the higher notes (da) The main riff goes: BA da da BABABA da da BABABA - and then starts with a new chord. He's playing BA da da BABA *REST* da da BABABA He's not playing a last low note
@@nuberiffic shoot, you are right. The rhythm that Marty is playing is the bass rhythm. On the guitar it is missing that one beat. I'm not sure which sounds better tho, bass line sounds funkier.
Kris Hart yes but the best way to learn (I did it with this song) is to do every note until you can do it perfectly with no other strings ringing out. You need a certain looseness and light touch
@@SandeepSingh-zc5sh practice a nice miz of muting with your fingering hand and picking hand using ur thumb. Find a comfortable place to rest it. Everyones dif and every guitar is dif. Like my gibson les pauls i rest it in a certain spot on the bridge very lightly. Adjusting pressure and angle and i use the thumb wrap around technique too for my left hand. I learned early on with that styles from john f and hendrix. Etc. Its hard to learn later on. Learn while ur still learning the basics more or less. Youll get it. 7 months is nothing. Even 21 lol. You have decades of getting better ahead. Never stoo learning im 25 been playing for 10 years now. And i still learn more all the time

I remember back in January 2020 when I switched from acoustic to electric that I watched this video. It changed me so much and made me practice this riff day and night. At the time I didn't listened to the Chili Peppers at all, now I can't wait to see them live after this whole pandemic thing is over :). Thanks Marty!

thumb over is a legit way to do it. any way is a legit way. if you get a good sound to leave that speaker, your job is done. don't let purists say "No thumb over, its wrong"
There must be like 50 ways to play this. I taught myself to play this in my own dumb way. I mute all strings with my index finger barred om the 6th fret, I use my middle/ring finger and pinky to fret the E, A and G strings on the 7th and 9th fret, and for the open D string I curve my index finger and pinky in some weird ass way to mute everything except for the open D. It's... weird, and Marty's way is (and sounds) probably a lot better, but that's just what I came up with after 7.5 months of playing (6 months classical, 1.5 months on a strat).
How do you only have 817k subs?? You should have 2 million at the very least for the amount of work you put into your vids! You have really helped me learn to play the guitar. I really love your vids keep up the amazing work!

Keep practicing buddy.
Practice using your thumb to mute the lower strings. It's so much easier that way and gives your other others more wiggle room.
