@@gangweed2012 simplified versions of riffs* a lot more to the songs, and this isn't how they are played anyway. Not all of them at least. Smoke on the water uses chords. You can learn full songs properly on youtube though, and learn music theory which is more important than most people think. Following this video really won't get you anywhere though. I'll preface this next statement by saying i suck at guitar, but you'll be laughed at by just about anyone other than your parents for playing what you learn in this video seriously.

When this is still too advanced for you Edit: ik this probably sounds cliched but I actually quit for a month but I started back up and I can play chord progressions pretty fluid and some songs. So honestly just stick through it. Once you know all the chords and terminology just look up songs and you'll play them terribly but it's more satisfying and you get better every time you do.
I learned more in under 12 minutes than I have in hours spent on other videos. I bought an electric guitar and amp for my kid and it collected dust, he is grown and out of the house now, so I sat down and played around with the guitar, then I went to different channels to try to learn to play simple stuff, and it all seemed too far advanced for me, then I come here and learn on one string, and I was all of a sudden making music. I think I might keep that guitar and amp and continue with your videos. I am not looking to join a band or to entertain other people, I just like to pass some time on my own.
I am buying a 3/4 size Squier Strat for my 7 year old, Rock Mad Son (I don't know where he gets it from? Ha ha ha) this weekend, and this is the first thing we are going to attempt, this is possibly the best TH-cam Vid that I have ever seen! I'm full of excitement, thank you!
these are such good lessons! I just spent like 4 days getting nowhere and then I did your beginner electric guitar lesson today and learned a lot. Then I did this one and I feel like you've already given me a place to start, practicing doing the one chord riff with two fingers got me to a place where I can actually get a 2 fret range with my pointer and ring finger something I never thought I'd be able to do and I can play a couple things that sound pretty scuffed because I'm new but It's like something concrete I know how to play! also the chords you teach in that lesson translate directly to this lesson and that's literally so helpful! Thank you so much Marty! I made so much progress because of you!

Depends on the amp but unless you have a expensive amp you will need a distortion pedal for this sound, just bought a pedal today and sounds the exact same
