    Darryl, I think the trees look just fine. I would say compare to what you see in Nature around the area you’re trying to model. That’s probably your best guide. Also, it looks like you’ve increased the speed of the trains on the layout? Keep up the good work!!! You’re an inspiration to us all!!

      Yes, running around 25 smph instead of 20 smph

    Looking great. On the lettering maybe dark gray (UP gray).

    If you can get some Noch light green leaves, sprinkle them on the top of the trees. It will give the illusion of sunlight on the tree tops.

      I actually have some of those on hand. Will give it a try.

    The trees look great. A variety of height and placement creates the effect.

    Morning Darryl, the height of the tree looks O/K for the HO scale. Good luck with your Opert this weekend. Mike HO Australia

    Live with the tree heights for a bit and see what you think then. I think they look fine and just need a few 'clusters' of various height trees so that one tree height isn't so obvious. Also, try to find logical areas where they would get water near a low and protected area. Layout looks great, and good luck with the ops sessions. Also, I appreciate the tip on the Super Trees - I've been dreading straightening mine. And I think I heard that I'll be headed there again in the near future!

      Thats the plan as far as living with them a bit before deciding. Am doing the water thing, Good luck with your plans. Very exciting!

    Darryl, to me the trees look fine. From my research, I have found that the average tree is between 30 to 50 feet high, even in areas such as around the Evanston sub. When you look at those trees that you have put in, they look to be about double, or 2.5 times the height of your trains, which puts them just into the average height. That average increases depending on the trees - pines are on average 80 to 100 feet.
    We get so used to those store bought trees which are always way too small that properly sized trees always look too big.

      @rwissbaum9849 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cottonwoods - which are common in wet ares throughout the West and Southwest - grow to 35 m (110 feet) tall.

    Trees come in all sizes in nature, those look find. I make the tall for most modellers.

    The tall trees look fine. Put smaller size trees close to the tall one. Odd number of trees but not too close or more 5 unless there's is lots of green grass around them.

    Hi Darryl I would laminate your signs or place them behind this clear plexiglass with your RR or UP logo on in a standard location so they have some similarity. Make it look like a standard that you use all the time all over the RR. Rod down-under.

      I plan to do this eventually, but will wait until each area is finished. Right now these are temporary

    To me the size looks correct. I live here in the west. Lived in Denver for 11 years. trees will grow sparsely but to their full height. But it's your layout. You have to feel comfortable with it

    At Emory, there used to be a Union Pacific Owned house for the Section Foreman. I believe a house was built there when the railroad was built in 1868. But that house was razed and another larger house and bunk house for section hands was built around 1900. I heard stories that the local passenger trains would stop there and give the section foreman’s family rides to Ogden or Evanston to shop. They even dropped off milk and bread daily so the section Foreman’s wife could prepare food for the section crew.
    I dropped off of a train at Emory in the middle of the night and was sitting on one of the foundation blocks waiting about 30 minutes for the following train to stop and pick me up.
    When the second train stopped, the conductor came out the front door about a football field away from me yelling at me to hurry up and get in the train. He was lighting fusees and throwing them my direction and the engineer was sounding the horn very erratically. I was stunned and couldn’t figure out what all the commotion was until I heard the conductor yell “Mountain Lion.” I turned around and a mountain lion was sitting on the highway 20 feet away from me. I picked up my backpack and walked backwards across the track right in front of the train and stepped on the engineer side front step as the train eased by to pick me up without stopping.
    I was evaluating the engineers performance.

    I’m only new to the game or what you guys would call a rookie but I think the trees aren’t to big , normally if there out in the middle of nowhere they go untouched by humans and grow very big, love the video 🇦🇺👍

    I really like this material for the trees, it's called sea foam. I like the sizes...the variation in height is realistic. I'm not sure about the area you are modeling but I would imagine that you can find some taller trees.

  • @adampizante8519
    @adampizante8519 ปีที่แล้ว

    Three sizes is good trees are larger in real life than you think

    • @EvanstonSub

      I agree. I just think these may be a little big for the arid Wahsatch mountains.

    You were just out there on vacation, didnt you measure anything? You took pictures as well too right?
    That area probably has an assortment of trees, uch as spruce, pine and cotton wood. Just midel what youve seen.

      In some areas there are no trees at all. Echo canyon has some here and there while there are more in the weber canyon.

    Are you going to put Soundtraxx decoders in the scale train locos?

    • @EvanstonSub
      @EvanstonSub  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, I'll keep the ESU Loksound

    • @benmoreau8404
      @benmoreau8404 ปีที่แล้ว

      So is there a difference between the two sounds?

    • @HolyMoley2u
      @HolyMoley2u ปีที่แล้ว

      I have both and I personally I like Sountraxx better. ESU are hard to program and they don't have Digital Dynamic Exhaust plus Soundtraxx are easy for me to consist multiple loco's. ESU can down load more sounds online if you buy the programing tool. I found that the new Athearn genesis locomotives have better speakers know and sound is just as good as ESU. Scale trains are not compatible with Soundtraxx plug & Play decorders. To upgrade older locomotives I use Soundtraxx TSU2 decoders and scale sound system speakers. I just wish Scale Trains would allow 21 pin compatible decorders other than just ESU. But they won't do it. @@benmoreau8404
