On our journey to explore the Amer Fort complex in detail, we came across a myriad of architectural elements that deserve attention! Varying from colorful frescos, marble inlay work to stained glasswork and engineering & designing details - Amer Fort has it all. Influenced heavily by Mughal architecture, owing to their close alliance with the Mughal dynasty, Amer still has visible traces of individuality which establishes its prominence in the history of Indo-Islamic architecture.
In this episode we show you sections within the premises of the Amer Fort - starting with the Suraj Pol, Chand Pol and Jaleb Chowk. The assembly courtyard, Jaleb Chowk was built during the 18th Century. Proceeding further, we enter the Diwan-e-Aam via the Singh Pol (an 18th Century build). Interestingly, the construction of Diwan-e-Aam begun in the late-16th and continued till the early-17th century! The Ganesh Pol, one of the most ornamental gates with the Amer Fort complex was built around mid-17th century. As we proceed through this pol to reach the Diwan-e-Khas, we learn that its construction was commissioned during the same era as the Ganesh Pol (mid-17th century).
By now you must have noticed that the Amer Fort complex does not belong to the leagues of the ordinary. Spanning across centuries, this fort complex witnessed various quarters being built by various Rajas during their lifetimes- be it the numerous gates, the audience halls or the private chambers of the royalty. Originally built by Kacchawa ruler Raja Man Singh, Jai Singh I started expanding it. Over the next 150 years the successive lineage have expanded the complex, making it an 'epitome of royalty'. Each Raja has left his distinct mark of creativity in every element they have commissioned. But the hard work of all artists and workers can never be belittled!
The foundational history of the Amer dates back to the Meenas' who had made this city their capital before being defeated by the Kacchawa Rajputs.

How to Reach Amer Fort
Buses to Amber Palace leave from Ajmeri Gate and MI Road and take around 40 minutes to reach. It drops you just beyond Maota Lake. You can also hire a auto-rickshaw or car from anywhere in Jaipur, which is a more convenient option.
