    They all sound fantastic. I have the 25 combo and can say it is extremely versatile; fantastic Fender Tweed like cleans to high gain sounds, no pedals needed. I have played through many $2500+ boutique amps and the Fillmore is equal or better than any of them.

      Have you been gigging with your Fillmore 25? Do the cleans stay clean at higher volumes, like when you play with a drummer and bass player? Thanks in advance.

      I will own one someday. These are fantastic amps all around; some of Mesa's finest offerings in years I think, at least since the Lonestar. It's my dream amp, in that it encapsulates all of what made the early Mesas great before they took off with the Mark series, which dont get me wrong are great but those early amps were designed on those timeless Fender circuits and in my mind there are few tones as pristine!

    I was looking for a combo.Tried the Fender custom 68 and this Fillmore.The Fillmore lacked punch and loudness for a Mesa.The Fender was so much louder and punchier except with a ton of white noise even with the volume at zero.
    The Fillmore sounded great.I got out of the store with a Mk5 25 head.Funny how things are sometimes.
    Is the Fillmore really 50 w or more 40 w ?

    I heard a semihollow gretsch with p90s thru a filmore. Sounded Ace. I suspect an es335 would also be Ace thru a filmore. Gibson and Mesa are hooked up by the way, since Gibson bought out Mesa. I think Filmores have fender genes -- Leo Fender voiced his amps for the competition's guitars (Gibson) as well as Fender's. Wise. No wonder Gibson liked Mesa; hardly no other boutique amp builders have voiced their amps for Gibsons other than for their LPs.

    Fillmore 50 combo wins this particular shootout, with the 50 series in general being superior to the more muffled, boxy 25's. It's possible the 25 could have been EQ'd closer though. Interesting how the 25 head vs 25 combo was nearly identical but the 50 combo sounded much brighter than the 50 head. These seem hard to come by in the UK right now...have they been discontinued already?

    As a modeler kind of guy (Axe Fx II guy) these sound really great! What kind of tones do you get when you play them low volumes? I have 3 kids and playing dimed doesn't really work for me.

    • @AustinGuitarHouse
      @AustinGuitarHouse  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The master volume circuit on these amps are fantastic. You'll get great tones at bedroom volume.

    • @samroney6644
      @samroney6644 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The demo tones in this video are not at "dimed" volume. Set the gain as high as you like and just turn the master volume to whatever your wife allows. I have the 50 and was listening to hear whether I might like the 6v6 tone of the 25 too, but even the 6L6 50 sounds fine at lower levels. If you're really ocd, you can put a volume pedal in your loop and crank the MV. There's a mosfet in the circuit, after the MV and before the loop. It seems to sound slightly better when the mosfet is hit full force with the MV at 100%, and the fx loop is after it. That means a volume pedal in the loop can bring the volume down without affecting. Makes it a little more difficult to pre-balance the volume between channels set at different gain levels but in your situation that's not a big deal. ..

    • @AustinGuitarHouse
      @AustinGuitarHouse  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We use a Sennheiser e906 to close mic the amps and we'll also use the stereo condenser mics on a Zoom H5 to capture some of the room.

    I nearly bought a Fillmore without playing it, based solely on it being marketed as a vintage inspired amp, as well as the the stellar reviews all over the ‘net. Then a 25 combo showed up in a shop and I played it. Glad I didn’t buy it. Gave me the same vibe that I get here. Sterile.
    I had a Mark V. First Mesa. So stoked to get it. Just couldn’t find what I wanted in it.
    I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m not a Mesa guy. Think they’re amazing at what they are; a top of the line, high gain, metal-type amp that doesn’t flavor your guitar signal Beautiful cleans to high gain. Unfortunately, to me, they lack character. I’m reminded of Ibanez players, or PRS players (a whole other story there)
    They are tight. They are compressed. There is no sag. If you’re big on guitar heroics and/or metal, this may be ideal. But rock n roll was built on character. A strat/tell/LP played through a Mesa conveys a much different message than the same guitar through a super reverb or a plexi.
    I love the innovation at Mesa. I just felt the need to play devils advocate in light of all the Mesa love.

    • @dingusfuzzklonnkt2755
      @dingusfuzzklonnkt2755 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mesas can do the Marshall or Fender without issue with the proper eq. You can project sag or natural compression with the volume knob on your guitar if it's eqd properly. Unless you're talking about vintage plexis or blackfaces that are 6xs the price of this amp you're not going to find a more versatile amp. The guys playing filmores are far from guitar heroes. The amp can literally do anything if you're smart enough to dial it in.

    • @markramsey113
      @markramsey113 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dingusfuzzklonnkt2755 1) I disagree. Sure it can get close to Marshall or Fender, but Mesa is Mesa. Show me Mesa Boogie sag like a British amp.
      2) “Can”. This is the issue. “Can” and “Does” are very different things. Can I get close to Marshall or Fender? Sure. If I fiddle with knobs and faders until I get close, then no one else can ever touch or play the amp. If. I have children…forget it…they’re gonna hose the settings at least once a day.
      I’m a musician. I’m not an engineer. Said every musician that’s played a Mesa.

      You should of played the 50, I did not like the 25 myself. I could literally get the 50 to sound close to a Deluxe Reverb edge of breakup , and clean as well. It has a sponge to it at a lower volume. IMO it doesn't need pedals and beats the feel over an attenuated amp ( Tone Kiing Imperial 2) . A great low volume amp .

    FFR, a demo is a lot less useful when the audio is clipping like that. People who are actually listening because they're thinking of buying the amp don't get what we came for.

    • @RiperSnifle
      @RiperSnifle 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Nope, actually this kind of demo is a LOT more useful to someone looking to buy something than the thousands of close miked demos out there on TH-cam. NONE of them give you any idea of what an amp sounds like in the room, or any idea of what kind of volume levels they're at, it all just sounds the same through a 57. This at least gives you an idea that it's pretty loud in that room, and a really good approximation of what it sounds like in the room when you're playing it.
