    25:24 18 N*m = 159 in*pounds, not 100. (I verified in the manual for it to be 17N*m, so who the hell knows).

    I like how the intermediate shaft magically appears...It's fitting I guess, automatics work like magic and they go together like magic too. Is that why we call people like you transmission wizards?

      if you do this with a manual handy (which you should) you'll see where it says to install an alignment tool to keep the OD section aligned. Thats all that is. Really would have been good to tell the folk at home that though i suppose.

    I have a 46re.. and its got 220k on it . Shifts fine still.. but it whines in 1st-3rd.. but once in overdrive and lockup and itz quiet.. downshift ti 3rd and its back.
    Why would the first 3 gears whine and get progressivly faster the faster you go. Doesnt do it in neutral

    Is it true the older models like my 95 don't use a thrust washer for the reverse drum only a clip?

    Thank you for such detailed instructions. I was hoping that you would go over performance rebuild techniques, and also the very important and complex set up of Overdrive piston clearance . I took a 47rh off a v-10 and have done the bore enlargement( at electric connector hole) for electric version, then used a 46re od unit, used 47rh od planetary and od apply plate, thus allowing a 47re build for use on my 96 cummins. OD worked great for about 5k miles, but now I keep cutting OD seals ( even with seal install tool). am currently repacking my (original) od to install on case, so detailed set up of od to main case clearance would be beneficial.

    Hi Your videos are awesome. They have been very helpful. I have a 2002 Durango with a 46RE transmission. We have replaced the rear band servo piston (which was cracked common problem) we were able to do in place ( without removing the tranny from the truck by sliding the overdrive assembly back and loosening and slightly lowering the valve body which allowed a long punch to get in an punch out the servo lever shaft. The problem were experiencing now on re-assembly is the rear band adjustment the adjuster screws in too deep before we can get enough torque on it. (it is just barely more than finger tight may 10 -15 inch pounds. The assembly feels like it is together properly nothing rattling and there is some tension. Any ideas?

    Thank you for the videos. Im about to attempt to rebuild mine. i have the ATSG book , but to actually see hands on really helps. Again thank you. But I have a question. When I ordered my rebuild kit the guy I talked to said that I should put a shift kit in it, I dont have the number he gave me. But I told him that mine is going into a 99 Durango and that Iam running 35 inch tires. Yes I have an external cool and also am running it through the radiator, so what do you think?

    My overdrive housing case does not sit flush against the bell housing case. Does the overdrive housing bolts pull it flush together ?

    • @jimmywright5239
      @jimmywright5239 ปีที่แล้ว

      Answer is yes.

    • @jaxturner7288
      @jaxturner7288 ปีที่แล้ว

      That end isn’t the bell housing end but anyway no don’t pull it together with the bolts.
      First it needs to be centered and the splines aligned and then tapped into place over the it’s snap ring.
      There is an alignment tool available to aid in the mating of the od unit to the rear flange.

    So, there’s a thrust bearing in the end of the OD hub and it goes directly onto the thrust bearing on the piston? Face to face when you put the two cases together?

    I have to point out the fact you never said the torque spec for the band adjustment it's 72 inch lbs then back off 3 turns

    I’m rebuilding mine and I put the rear reverse band in and then try to put the rear drum inside the rear hand it doesn’t fit.. it’s the same band and drum that came out of it and there is not visible signs of damamge.. any ideas?

    • @2cents422
      @2cents422 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mine didnt either. I put the drum in first then pushed the band over with a pry bar and pushed in the rectangular piece in with a pick. But then after all that I couldnt get the snap ring over the plastic thrust washer. It's gotta all come back apart for me to see why.

      +rhkips Yes. The gel will stay in place. Fluid will flow and thin out. Jimmy

    When did you install the intermediate shaft. In the video when you installed the OD unit to the main body of the transmission at 33:50 the shaft was not present but when you went to install the one-way bearing assembly it was present. I'm going to assume that there isn't anything particularly tricky about dropping in the shaft and installing the plastic washer and snap ring.

      I thought I had missed something, and went back and reviewed the video like 3 times. Sure enough, no intermediate in the od housing, but yet it magically shows up after torquing the bolts

      It slides right in, he had to remove it when it is flipped upside down (or it'd fall out). It's being used to line everything up,, there normally is a plastic version of this. When I got to this step it fell right in (assuming you did what he said previously and had it all lined up).
