Death metal, Jazz fusion, progressive, technical, crazy weird robot vocals from the year 2374, drums off to the side with Sean's hair in a plat and a towel around his neck, non metal fashion, a girl controlling Pauls vocorder with a keyboard and growling, headless guitars, 5 string fretless bass, trippy lyric themes. Cynic is one of the most creative bands ever to exist, we're lucky to have this amazing recording. The world wasn't ready for them in 94 and still isn't now for the most part, that's how futuristic this band is!
@@JesseDavis95688 yes thank you so much, I appreciate this so much! Sorry my thanks are 28 years too late 🤣. There's another great recordings of them with good quality and audio from Phoenix too. I think there's at least 2 cameras for this show.
That's so funny, because this moment of this song (I'm But a Wave To....) has always been the moment I point to and say THAT'S what Cynic is all about - fusion of death metal and jazz. Well done, random audience member from 30 years ago.
I heard that Cannibal fans were NOT having any of Cynic, throwing stuff at them on a nightly basis. But kudos to Cannibal for taking them on tour. George and Alex are the nicest ppl ever.
@@en3525Lmfao chill out dude. This is a nearly 30 year old video. With time the death metal scene haa generally come to respect cynic. Yes its true and sad that there was a lot of closed mindedness back then but this comment is kinda closes minded too
Yes, I read that that tour was so traumatic for them that it was a major reason why Cynic went on hiatus. I wish metalheads were more open minded back than, but at least community is evolving now.
Thank you so much!! This is Caputo - the guy who recorded guitars on Splinter for Sean’s first album. Very fond memories of hanging and playing with Sean here in Tampa Bay. Still saddened by his and reinerts passing. RIP. Thanks again for taking us all back to the birth of next level metal
I was at one of the shows on this tour. We couldn't believe it when Dana belted out those crushing death vocals! So many memories. We were there for Cynic, but CC was pretty cool too. Jason was walking around after the show and I freaked out talking to him. I don't think he could believe what an idiot I was...haha. We all thought Cynic was going to be the next Metallica. This show was killer. I don't know why the snowball didn't keep rolling.
10:21 LOVE this so much. Everyone is on Fire, as usual, but especially Jason just RIPPING through that wild arpeggio section, and Master Sean Malone REALLY feeling it, and you can tell by the expression on his face. You NEVER see him doing that. SO much Passion for Music being shared with this footage, it's palpable. CYNIC FOREVER!🙏❤🔥🙌🌎
Love Jason's smile as he's nailing the How Could I solo at 37:52, love this band so much. RIP Sean & Sean and thanks for the upload. This 3 cam footage is awesome.
from the beginning, everyone knew there was something really special going on with Cynic and their music/performances. Focus is the definition of undisputed masterpiece, and performances like this one really capture the unique atmosphere of that album, where cosmic energy meets organic bliss.
thank you timestretch! i knew people would dig it. it still has some flaws, but its more interesting to watch as a 3 camera edit. my tripod shot is pretty good but it still has that one spot where i just pull back and do a full band shot for like 2 songs. i cant remember what happened there. but the other 2 cams definitely help.
Fantastic! I never saw Malone live but had the chance to see and hang out with Sean R and Paul a few times during the late 2000's! Malone and Reinert are two of music greatest losses, though. And way too early.
Was this the tour with Cannibal Corpse and Sinister? All that talk about Cynic getting trashed by the fans was bullsh*t. If anything the crowd seemd to enjoy them from the cheers and claps in between song. Most of my metal head friends also liked them back in 93 when Focus came out.
To be fair, this was in Berkley, California. Huge college town, so they'd be a lot more welcoming to progressive stuff like this. In other cities, maybe not as much. Paul himself has said that he had a bottle thrown at him during this tour
Lovely, thanks for posting. Just like to know who thought it was a good idea that Cynic went out with Cannibal Corpse!? Anyways, unreal to see actual footage!
Simply magical, in my opinion ’Focus’ is still amongst one of the greatest albums ever made.

yeah, im really glad we recorded them that night. i think this is one the best live recordings of them from 94. at least, that i know of.

Candiria too!
Surreal watching this and seeing the 18 year old version of myself in the audience. Good times :)
What was it like That’s amazing
I was there as well. I was 15
The thing with cynic is that this sounds cutting edge to this day. But it also sounds analogue and real and, incredibly, better than the album
10:30 "This is death metal and jazz". That line never gets old.
10:30 doesn’t have anybody saying “This is death metal and jazz.”

How badass this! Youngsters at the helm of fusion-metal WOW! In memoriam Malone + Reinert
Imagine hearing this live for the first time back then? Alien.
one of the best footage of old CYNICs perfomance. I love it...
Wow, to witness this in person must have been... something else entirely. One of a kind.
THE WORLD IS STILL NOT READY FOR CYNIC. LIGHTYEARS BEYOND OUR TIME. GODBLESS PAUL, PROTECT HIM AT ALL COSTS.
Dude this band is so fucking good live here, I can't help but laugh watching this. Incredible.
God these guys were and are fucking amazing. 🤘🤘🤘 R.IP. Malone and Reinert.

I like death metal a lot and fuck those elitist fans. Rob woulda been pissed, that dude wore a Cynic shirt and I bet he loves them so much.
Holy fucking shit, this is unbelievably amazing. Hearing "The Eagle Nature" ending with all the original samples live is unreal
Damn, keyboardist has amazing growls.

One of the absolute greatest Cynic performances. And they were ALL great.
RIP Sean and Sean
The world needed 14 years to catch up to this so really there was no gap in the timeline of their career.

"I'm But a Wave To..." is a masterpiece and my personal favorite of Cynic's catalog. The ending section is perfection.
@NVP12345 I agree wholeheartedly. I can pinpoint this song as the one that completely transformed my life, along with blue in green by miles Davis

Man, they killed it here. They should be proud.
Thinking that this album was recorded when they were, like, 21/22 years old...
Fucking awesome. They had brought some intelligence and specific charme to US DM scene

I saw part of this footage back in like 98-99 great to finally see the whole thing. They are friggin booking it

Whats the name of the second song?
Someone knows wich vocoder is Paul using here?
digitech vocalist ii to my knowledge
One of the all time best Florida bands and that’s saying a lot.
What happenned to that woman on vocals Dana Cosley?
Left it to do other stuff im pretty sure, theyre doing stuff for the Convention of States now
Ethereal
What’s the first song?
Veil of Maya
They kinda remind me of Voi-vod, Death, Carcass & Trouble, if they had a love child, ala, Rosemaries Baby/Charley Manson.
Too Dark?
this reminds me of CYNIC
