EXCELLENT as always. And you are always speaking the truth but at 25:58 you told it like it really is. People, learn facts please. No matter what you think of Colon. Those were different times and we can not take our 21st century mentality and judge folks in the 15th century. And yes, a lot of us in PR (myself included) are descendants of the Colon family. great job!
Thank you for your presentation, very informative. I have been working on my tree for more than 35 years and I found out that Cristóbal Colon is my 14th great-grandfather. As I listened to your report, I could listen to the names of most of my ancestors. It was a big surprise for me when I found him and others as well. Looking forward to Juan Ponce de Leon. Again, thanks! God be with you!
God!!! I love this. I saw my ancesters in there, Cabrera, and Juan Blas de Matos was my 5th great grandfather, I could cry!!! OMG! This is just so exciting and so precious, what a gift! Thank you so much Darien Castro, you are such a blessing! I have been desperately researching everything I could find on Cristobal Colon, because he kept popping up on all of my ancestral trees. People kept telling me not to believe it, but I swear I never stopped believing.. Something told, me that yes, this was real and you have now confirmed it beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is indeed my great grandfather either 14 or 15th, even though remote, he is still my ancester and I am so very proud of this, and of him!!!
I have been doing some research on Ancestry and online since finding Family search tree in OCTOBER 2023 that went all the way to Cristóbal Colón as my 15th great-grandfather. Thanks for the video, may actually dare to share with my extended family now.
Of course! I am one through my Portuguese roots! He was my 13th great-grandfather, married to my 13th great-grandmother, Filipa Moniz de Perestrello of Porto Santo, Madeira, Portugal. One of his descendants, Maria Juana Colón Toledo de La Cueva married Luis de La Cueva Y Toledo who's daughter had a son named Diego Geronimo Luna Ramirez de Arellano who migrated to and died in 1671, in La Villa de San German, Puerto Rico. Many of Diego's descendants live in San German and Cabo Rojo. Where did you get the document you showed in this video? Thanks for the information.
@@DairenCastroTorresGenealogy I used several online companies, birth records, and DNA results connecting me to several relatives in Puerto Rico that are descendants of him and to our connection to the great-grandparents already mentioned. @@DairenCastroTorresGenealogy Well, I am doing another check in the Real Academia de la Historia and will check. I have run into a snag with the name of my ancestors and found there is an error. Very interesting and with evidence. I was more focus in the video with sufix De followed by the Last Name. Since Last Name wasn't common at the time, that suffix "De" probably referred were they from in Spain.
@@yeshuacolon958i think I might have figured it out. Towards the end of his video he went over the proofs linking juan lorenzo de matos who was a direct descendant of Christopher Columbus via Pedro Alvarado to Juan Colon de Luyando since the only marriage between an Alvarado and Colón was to Antonio Colon de Luyando, son of Juan Colon de Luyando, who was the son of Juan Colón (husband of Leonor, alleged son of Luis Colon de Toledo). Since Leonor is not of the Colon line nor is Catalina de Espinosa, it must have been Juan Colón (leonors husband). I think Coamo had many ties with the Luyando family stemming ultimately from Maria de Orozco(??? I think???) since it was her de Luyando husband that was associated with governor of Puerto Rico (Juan Ponce de Leon) and played a big role in settling Coamo, if i remember? So what we'd need is some kind of document proving that Luis was his father or information on his mother, no?
@@yeshuacolon958 Also, somone named Brandon Szinavel has something called "Proof Juan Colón and His Descendants are All Descendants of Christopher Columbus" you can find on Google. but I am not smart enough to understand the connections, to be honest. There are references listed but I don't know how he was able to link Capitán Juan de Ávila which he found records for on May 24th 1594 to Leonor de Luyando. David Enrique Cuesta y Camacho also apparently found a link that connected Juan Colón to Don Luis Colón and that he preferred to use his mother's maiden name (Colón) instead of Dávila, but the reference simply lists "item" as the source. Hopefully you can get more information
Hi Dairen, I just found your geneaology channel today and subscribed. Your video about the descendency of Cristobal Colon is quite interesting. My family comes from the Dominican Republic and doing geneaology I found one of my 4th great-grandparents was Martin Colon. Unfortunately, we do not have enough documents in the DR to prove if we descend from Cristobal Colon. I also would like to mention if there are also Colon lines in the Caribbean that do not descend from him but from maybe his slaves with the same name. Have you found something about this?
Yes, Alexandra and thank you for your comment. The Colón family was some of the largest slave-holders in Puerto Rico and Santo Domingo, and as I'm sure you know slaves took the surname of their "masters." So if someone carried the Colón name, it is equally possible for them to descend from a slave of the family then an actual member of the family.
Hey, Great video as always, i have a question about a genealogy thing. My 9th great grandfather is Blas Lopez de Alicea son of Juan Lopez de Alicea and Maria Ramos Colon or Maria Cintron Ramos from the families of the first populators of Coamo. Do you think that Maria Colon Ramos is also a descendent of Cristobal Colon family or IS she a descendent of that family?
I think that would be a great topic for a potential Part 3 if you find something LOL Because I descend from his son Calixto Lopez de Alicea he married Maria del Carmen Matos o Martinez in Caguas and their marriage is said to have had a 3rd and a 4th grade of consanguinity, so there's a clue there i think.
Hi, I have a great grandmother by the name of Ana Colon (Anita) born in Puerto Rico in the Ponce area in 1870's. I can't find any birth records for her to get her parents names and continue working my work back to or validate if related to the Diego Colon family. I have seen through ancestry distant cousins who trace their line to Diego Colon but I am skeptical and don't want to go by what they have put down. I myself married a Colon who's family is from Cuba, but first I need to find my connection. On my mom side I have made direct connections to the Kortrights and Rosario surname. Anita married a Padro and wonder if you know anything of these surname or tell me where to look.
Hello Margie, Ponce is one of the places where records are really difficult to find. The Colón family in Cuba is interesting, I have never investigated that branch.
