    I received a copy of the yellow pages recently and showed it to my 15 year old daughter. She flipped through it and said, “So they basically printed out part of the internet”. My heart breaks for a generation that will never know the sheer utter joy of receiving the Sears Christmas catalog in the mail.

      That catalog was always a staple in our home.

    Thank you so much for the kind and generous mention of the box I sent you. Sorry it took so long to thank you in the comments. I usually watch TH-cam on a TV with a different account, so I'm out of the habit of commenting.

    I knew I'd seen this handsome fellow somewhere but couldn't remember; thanks for mentioning the film. Now i have to try to find it on Spectrum or maybe my streaming services. 😊👍😊👍

    I had never heard of this movie before and I like the stop motion work of Harryhausen. I figured I would have to look for it. Amazingly, TH-cam dropped it in my feed today.

    Love it! I have one of the Harryhausen toy figures from over a decade ago of Ymir. I keep him on a shelf next to my Heroclix Cthulhu and Fin Fang Foom! Just a fun little model, Lou. Thanks for sharing!

    Yah a real telephone directory! Our ones use to be A white pages 'normal' telephone directory, and the yellow pages, now (well where I live in the UK) they are a combined issue, and very much slimmed down! Used to be fun to look through some sections of the Yellow pages to find companies that were still listed, even though they had closed down 2 years ago. On another note I watched the Yellow Submarine build the other evening, well done for sticking with it, I would have been tempted to have chucked it in the dust bin!

    Great build as usual sir. I've built a few of the Horizon vinyl kits in my day . I put spray foam in them so the vinyl would keep it's shape in various temps. Sometimes it can deform when left hollow. I enjoy your channel.really

    I love your Soylent Green reference, I always loved that scene. I was watching it again recently and ironically it was supposed to be the far flung future of 2022! A lot of eerily close predictions for the 1970s!

    I built the Geometric Ymir, which I bought @ Wonderfest in 1996 from George Stephenson. The Star Ace one looks amazing, and you did a great job on it, wonderful detailing on the base. It's also scaled to match the size of the actual animation model that Ray Harryhausen used, which is cool. Great video, thanks for sharing!!

    Very festive, Lou, AND in the Christmas colors. Perhaps you could call him Ebenezer.

    Heh .. I haven't received a Yellow Pages book here in NY in at least 5 years now. (and it's been more than a decade since I got a regular phone book)
    Good for you Lou! Memories.
    The Ymir creature brings back a lot of Saturday afternoon TV monster movie memories as well. 😁👍

    X-Plus is in partnership with Star Ace for these Harryhausen figures. The kit you have is the same as the painted one Sideshow is selling, just without the deluxe base. There is also a Cyclops kit available and others on the way.

  • @sharkytampy
    @sharkytampy 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    apparently, from what i was told they use the same mould for the deluxe versions to do the model kits with too

    At least you aren't pronouncing it "Whymer"!

  • @MartinFutter70

    I was surprised to read, that the Ymir armature became the Cyclops in the 7th Voyage of Sinbad, of which he was cannibalised too for Calibos... The Ymir replica in the The Ray and Dianna Harryhausen Foundation shows him/her/it to be brown, but green looks good too

    • @aztekdummy
      @aztekdummy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i comfort myself with the fact that Harryhausen supervised the colorization, so he must have been OK with it being Green

    Weren't there a couple of color shots of Harryhausen posing with his original maquette? Old brain says yes, new brain can't find 'em. (Cover of Cinefantastique?) Love the base, seemingly a small amount of work yields a lot of result. Black trim inspired. An interesting balance of elements, the verticality, straight lines vs Ymir (Y... Y... ? naah, not a lot you can do with that name, the ole PeeWee Herman, "Why - meer?)
    Yellow Pages? Baah, a pale ghost of former glory. I remember you could use a Manhattan Yellow Pages to smash a rat with. Now it's a licensed brand name that over-charges for listings... ah well.
    Sounds like you might get a teaser done next week-- another creature... so Merry Christmas.

    I can't approve of the Santa hat, it makes poor Ymir look like the Grinch.
    Ymir is named for a figure from Norse mythology, pronounced ee-mir with a rolled r. The "monster" in the movie was passive until attacked by a dog which apparently made it paranoid so of course it had to be killed.
    Nice build and the vignette base is perfect. You didn't overdo referencing the movie scene.

    Good call going the opposite direction in colour as the Gremlins, wouldn't want them to be Ymir-image of each other 😇
