Definitely a good idea. I liked this set up for the storage reasons but sleeping felt like being in a coffin! I’ve since gone back to the Superduty 6 3/4 set up and looking to start the build soon. Thanks for watching and glad this added some value for your build!
you may have figured this out, but you're missing the bottom long bungee cord that pulls the two ends of the tent together under the tailgate. I fiddled with mine this weekend and made the cord tighter by putting knots in it and it was great. no gaps. I also put a clamp on the bottom middle and used an extra bungee to the hitch to keep the middle tight to prevent dogs from slipping out... :) thanks for this video! I came home and realized I need to completely redo my hasty build
Keep the wheel free. So emergency you can start and go instead of tied knot on the wheel from tent, but I like the way you build truc camper very easy and nice
Justin, great job with constructing your new truck bed. I really like your new features with the sliding storage drawers with rails. You might need to construct a small step up get get into the truck camper. Have a great weekend and Happy Easter. Blessings, Rob
Good set up! Couple of questions? Where does your coolers and food go? Extra cloths rain suits etc.? Better get a plan about bathroom break middle of the night. Might need some curtains on the side and front? Hoping your cap works out for height? I likely would have bought a higher one. All in all good start. Have a fun first time camping!!
The answers to almost all the questions is the cab of the truck. Bathroom break in the night is to exit the truck. This truck/setup didn’t last long. We ended up getting back into a Superduty F250 for the towing capacity. Now we have a nice enclosed trailer we converted into a toy hauler. Video to come!
Awesome build! I've been debating between a 5.5ft and 6.5ft bed to accommodate a bed. Do you happen to have the dimensions of your box? Specs on the truck usually include the top lip.Trying to figure out if two 30" exped mattresses would fit.
Thank you for the kind words! I no longer have this truck to get the dimensions, but my advice is go with the 6.5’! The inside of the bed fit a 58” wide queen mattress with inches on either side. I think your set up will fit perfect. Thanks for watching and commenting
Awesome build sir! Finally found an F150 like my 21. Guard Metallic complete with ARE Classic paint match shell 🙂 (of course yours may be gray lol) I will be starting my build in the next day or so!
These are great trucks! I’m happy with mine but I think a 3/4 ton may be in my future. I love the look of this one and the performance of the 2.7l with the 10 speed is amazing. We now own a 16ft enclosed trailer that only weighs 2200 empty, but the size and wind drag is when you can feel the trailer behind such a light truck. Thanks for commenting and have fun with your build!
I know I’m a little late to the party here, but if you could hinge your two 2 x 10 supports to swing out under your extension, you wouldn’t have to keep up with them and just stick them under
I thought a similar plan up, but due to the towing capacity of that truck I ended up selling before I could go any further. We now have a 2017 Ford F250! No camping set up for the bed yet but could be soon! Thanks for watching and commenting
Great idea I have been thinking about doing something like that. 👍 is that a memory foam mattress? My memory foam pillow turned into a rock during a winter camping trip I was less than amussed
Just the video I was looking for!!! I'm going to make my storage more shallow and utilize the backseat..

Learned the hard way that short beds suck! Nice work making the best of what you have.
Nice setup!!! I miss longer truck boxes!

Thank you I haven’t realized the missing bungee yet. I appreciate the kind words and the advice!
That was awesome 👌 👏 👍 THANKS FOR SHARING
Hell yeah! Awesome video. Introduction is great! Good to see the old truck tent is still getting some use.

Thank you Rob! It’s been a fun project!

A nice job and a really good dog u got there.
Thank you! Yes she’s our child, luckily there were no squirrels around or she would’ve bolted. Thanks for watching!

Look so Amazing setup
Awesome video. I’m about to build the same
Pretty freakin’ awesome! Glad everything worked out so well!! Nice intro, too

That turned out great

Great idea
What size mattress did you got ??
This is a queen size mattress. 6” memory foam measures at 58” W x 78” L. We found this mattress on target.com
If you had a 6.5 box could've closed it while inside
I only had this truck 14 months and bought another superduty with a 6 ft 9 inch box. The 5.5 is just too short.
What is the name of that tent?
It’s the DAC full size truck tent. See the link in the description to the exact tent. Thanks for watching!
I think you can use low memory foam as a bed , this is how you can get some head room
Absolutely, I’ve camped in it alone without and it made a big difference. Thank you for all your comments and watching the videos!
I learned the hard way that memory foam is not conducive to cold weather camping. That bitch froze solid😅

This js why 5.5ft beds suck
Yep! We only owned this truck for about 13 months. Back to a real size truck
you are not pre drilling holes. no one has ever or will ever pre drill holes. you drill the holes.
