    Love our SE. Had it for 18 months now and it hasn’t disappointed us once so far *touch wood. A heap of fun to drive, very comfy seats (we got the Mini Yours pack), and looks great all round.
    More range would have been nicer, but as it is we get around 180km per charge on average, depending on time of year and weather (Australia). Charge it anywhere from 2-4 days, depending on usage. No kids (all grown up and moved out) so the back seat space wasn’t a problem for us. They were the only downsides we could see with the car overall, and for the purpose we purchased the car for, neither are an issue. We have our Clubman for longer trips.

    Your first Mini electric review, "MINI Cooper SE review | All Electric MINI is the hot hatch to beat!", was a major influence on my getting my 2023 Level 3. So beautifully filmed in the countryside, and your sincere believability of how enjoyable the driving experience is was perfectly pitched to potential drivers, like me. The car doesn't scream "look at me, I'm an EV", where here in the States, Teslas are often the victim of vandalism.
    I also like that it's made in the UK. New Mini made in China? Nope.

    I actually just recently bought a second hand 2020 Cooper SE, I was holding out, thinking about leasing the new electric Cooper, but I especially disliked the new interior and also think the outside styling of the former SE looks better. Sure, range isn't great, but it's a topic which is always brought up and every buyer can make up their mind before making the purchase.

    Mark, Love it! Love it! You said it...'small car''. So much fun. Okay i say 'love'.. Drop the stupid Union jack lightys...loathsome! Ditto those stupid 'plug' alloys. Just buy standard. Yes new one is superb! Just a minimalist 'wet dream' in terms of a car. Yet this UK built has so much going for it. For a single or couple what more in terms of EV would you need? Yes still take a Pug 208 e but this is close second. And as you found after driving that god awful Kia EV9, what a difference! And you can park it in a space and not take 3 spaces. Surely a small, compact 'urban EV is the answer. Great review, as always. Cheers.

    The CEO of Honda said that motoring was going back to the days of old when only the rich could afford it. Cheap economical cars are becoming more rare. By the looks of this Mini he was exactly right.

    We have bought the outgoing SE. We live in southern Europe in a rural area. We achieve 180 km in winter and 220 in summer. Totally acceptable for such a fun driving car. And you can charge at home. We do not want cars built in China and cars that omit the buttons. This is a classic car! But truth be told if we would use it for highway driving every day, the limited range would be a show stopper.

      All the more for you to carry around. How often do you drive tto the full extent of your tank? Most people don't. or rarely. We have an i3 and charge it for free off the roof solar. No more waiting at petrol stations because I go out with a full 'tank' every day in which I can easily get 150miles. I almost never drive that distance in 1 go and quite happy to stop for a coffee while I can recharge to 100% in about 40 mins or less. EVs are the way of the future.

    I’ve got an early R53 Cooper S JCW with the super charger. Still one of the most fun cars to drive. Don’t really see how that EV can wear the same badge. Not saying there’s necessarily anything wrong with it, only how can you compare the two.

      The R53 is a terrible car. I owned one and it just fell to bits. The R56 wasn't much better. I think with the new Mini electric they've cleaned up the look of the Mini and made it a simple, cute car again. The electric drivetrain is perfect for the Mini. I'm sorry but small petrol cars are a dying breed.

    140km of range, driven 'responsibly' and with air conditioning, lights, wipers and radio turned off. However and as I believe, another 5km could be gained by inserting 10 AAA batteries into an aftermarket range extender (UK£5,000). All good and no need to wait!

    • @NobbyOnCars

      Who in their right mind buys a car to drive around like that !?

  • @sleekitwan
    @sleekitwan 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I simply sat and awaited the battery capacity. kWh may be a garbled measurement of energy, but like inches, it’s stuck around, and it is a lot easier to grasp in numbers than the alternatives (I recall explaining an inch was one finger joint to my kids, and a centimetre was…er, ten millimetres). 32.6kWh. We drove a Nissan LEAF from Yorkshire to Glasgow and that was SIX years ago AT LEAST, and that had 35kWh, and we charged 5 times, froze our backsides off and it took 9 hours or TWICE AS LONG as our big Volvo 5-pot diesel V70. My feet were blocks of ice as we crossed the border, and by the end of the 250-mile run, our kids were either asleep or hypothermic, and in retrospect we were lucky not to get stuck in some white-out, because a 20-hour stoppage in that icebox, would literally threaten your children’s lives.
    No, unless your commute is incredibly short, and you drive through urban areas where you can seek shelter and not be locked-in, in a storm, this is dangerous. The newer Kia Soul cars (e-soul?) have 64kWh. I didn’t watch any more, this is a cheapie you purely buy on price as a third car for what purpose I don’t know, like you would a Renault Twizy. I do love the idea of EVs, but we live in a Northern Climate. Use full heating, in winter, put the clog down, and I can tell you this will do about 45 miles of range. But, cheap enough, you might have a use for it. Take care all.

    • @holgre3470
      @holgre3470 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We have had an i3. 42Kw but really 38 and love it . We charge it for free from the roof solar most of the time and it is fantastic in the semi rural area where we live.We got from SWindon to Isle of Wight on 1 charge and weren't desperate for a charge then. Also to Machyntlleth in late November in sub zero temperatures. Chrges twice and was glad to stop each time.If you avoid motorway routes EVs are great because of the regen. As for the cold- always be prepared. I lived in Northumberland for years, always travelled in winter with a sleeping bag or blankets and extra food in the car. It is common sense in northern climes.

    Unless you want to see 50% depreciation in the first year why would you order the first gen. 😮 And it will take a huge loss. I was in the new one in December and the exact model and I’m talking just Cooper with the works kit came in at £43k 😮 and that’s a non starter as better EV’s are out there. It’s basically the same running gear and pack from the new Smart 1.

    Interesting review but expressing surprise at the rear seat and boot space in a mini hatch is like picking up a banana and expressing surprise that it’s yellow! If you need rear seat and boot space buy a mini countryman! The hatch has loads of front passenger space, great seats, a premium interior with premium features, and plenty of power. Audi is not replacing the A1 so Mini is now the only truly premium small car.
