Love my MX motor. I agree with you in that mine is identical to how my 475 cat c15 performed. Here's the issues with the MX.
    1. I save lots of fuel in the summer. However once winter fuel hits the Cummins and me are getting the same fuel mileage.
    2. The torque vibrations from the MX are insane and cause a ton of interior rattles.
    3. If PACCAR decides to lock my computer out for an emission update and I've got a check engine light. Now I'm stuck going to the dealer waiting 3 weeks for them to look at my truck.
    4. Your stuck for warranty work only going to PACCAR dealerships.
    5. In Ontario good luck selling your used MX truck. It's going to be sitting for sale for a long time and won't bring the money it should. Even owner operator van haulers are going Cummins. They are sick and tired of being tied to dealerships that scam them and cause them tons of downtime. They want the ability to work on their own engines and Cummins is supporting that whereas PACCAR is completely against that.

Agree totally used to have a C-12 in a 2000 9200i. 430 horsepower that little engine would out pull 450 ISXs all day long. Now I’m stuck with a Prostar with a 450 ISX and it’s a total waste of time. No guts in hills, worse fuel economy. Gutless wonder runs like a Swiss watch since the overhaul at 200,000 miles but won’t pull a hill for beans.

I have a 505 paccar in my 19 367. I love it more than my 600 ISX that was in the shop every 2 days for emissions. I also went from 2mpg loaded (heavy haul in the western US wind tunnel) to 5-5.5 loaded. Not as much get up and go as the 600 isx but it pulls just as good and I make it up every hill

I switched to a Paccar MX13 on my last T800. Why?? Because Cummins changed the gear train on the new X15 and it’s so noisy compared to the older ISX15. That drove me crazy. The MX13 is super quiet and way better on fuel. My Cummins were specked with 450/1850 and my MX13 has 510/1850. Really happy with the mx13. Oh, and it’s lighter and is less expensive then the Cummins.

My take on this, first off i have been a diesel mechanic for more than 40 years, i live in Alaska, no emissions tests up here. This last summer i bought at a Ritchie Brothers auction two 2015 Peterbilt 579 tractors, both have the 500 hp mx13 and an 18 speed, one is a flat top, bull bar, lots of roof led spotlights, a running truck but lots of codes, exhaust elbow was removed before the scr, it was listed as emissions disabled, paid $2,400 for it, second truck which i have now at home had disc brakes all around, its a midroof, has the microwave, fridg, custom leather seats, but it was losing coolant. I bought a good used egr cooler, removed and steamed out the dpf, bought an early Davie laptop and currently researching how to do a def delete on it. I wont be line driving at all, i buy heavy equipment a lot and needed a tractor, might consider using it as an rv hauler, i paid $2,100 for it, had to buy a set of rear tires and rims as at the auction it was sinvled out with rag tires. Its very clean, runs great and both trucks havx just a bit over 600,000 miles. The other one will be hauling a belly or side dump trailer. Lots of emissions disabled trucks at the auctions, only issue with paccar is the Davie system is very expensive, over 5k.

Mike, I have been putting off asking you some things about Peterbilt's, because I didn't want to be rude or disrespectful to you with your home videos. However, seeing this video today, prompts me to respectfully write this out.... (and while its about Peterbilts, and potentially engines, its not anything to do about the MX engines)
I am a disabled U.S. Army Veteran ( I was a tank mechanic before 9/11) living on a very limited income. During covid, I started a project, on paper only, to pass the time. There are things I do not know about Peterbilt trucks, and not knowing them has made it not possible to finish my paper project.
Among the things I am lacking for knowledge, is wiring harness and electrical information for 2002 - (pre '04) 2003 Peterbilt 379 stand up sleeper tractors (60" +), engine swap information (this is where it gets tricky) for 3412 Caterpillar mated to a 18spD 2050 Torque transmission, and conversion information for making a Peterbilt tractor equipped with a front drive axle and a gear box for the front axle. The TRICKIEST part of the entire project is keeping the truck under 26,000 (u.s.) Lbs, while having a custom 144 +/- sleeper ( I know.. I am being overly strict, crazy, and all of that for the goals I set myself. but imagine if I can make a viable design...)
Now, in keeping with the Engine part of your video.. Say this project became a reality, and a 3412 was obtained and put inside of a Peterbilt tractor (minus the frame and body alterations due to engine size) how would one 1) tone the engine down for fuel economy and emissions, and 2) limit the torque so as not to damage the drivetrain??
Sorry if this catches you sideways... however, I would love to be able to get the information I am looking for to be able to finish my project. Due to my limited income I can not easily afford diesel manuals and such. With that being said.. where would I get manuals for a 3412, and Peterbilt tractor schematics for electrics given my limited income?
Thank you, Mike, for your videos, including this tech one. I hope you do not mind me asking this lengthy bit of information..

Sorry Mike, PACCAR may make a dependable 13 liter, however what is the incentive to abandon the big power Cummins?. Our application is farm commodity transport. Low annual mileage would equate to minimal fuel cost savings. Weight savings?, Back roads to the elevator, no scales. That fuel water separator issue was a disgrace & PACCAR refused to admit the design error, & let customers continue to be stranded.

Hmmm comment below says the MX13 engines are used in daf trucks, thought so , power up to 510 , euro 6 poss 7 compliant , need a computer to even know where to start if there is a problem , and all trucks limited speed wise in Europe/UK (50-56mph) good engine when running well , ok up to 50 ton , pushing it a lot at 72/73 ton (160000lbs) and 13 liters , well bit on the small side , Volvo do a 16 liter 6 cyl hp up to 750 , Scania do an 18 liter V8 hp up to 730 , thats the sort of power/and more important the torque these engines make you need for gross loads upto 80-100 ton , comment below mentioned the cat 3408 , a bit of redesign , modern fuel system - common rail - to try and make 8-10 mpg and 800+ hp , if it could be made to meet current/future emission regs would be a really sweet power plant , think there is a big cummins , the Aussies use in there road trains think around 16-18 liter / 600-800 hp pulling 70 -120 ton average gross loads , outback only , , dont know bout the emission side on that engine but big torque .... , the old Mack V8 again another big cube engine lots of grunt/torque , doesn't meet current emission regs , but a good power plant . point is you need big cube engine to make big torque , power is rarely used in a big rig , if you want the engine to last that is , its driven on it grunt/torque , not it power , 1100 to 1600 rpm not 2000 to 2300 rpm ....

I have a 2014, 379 with the MX 13. The fuel injector pump unit bolt broke. I replaced the pump and drove less than 50 miles and it did the same thing. I replaced it once more and got 200 miles before it broke the bolts again, Do you have any recommendations? It was torqued correctly with the correct bolts put back. thank You

    Why dont i need a MX13 ???
Every time i get one in a Curbsniffing 'DAF' (overhere in Curbsniffercountry EU) i blow the headgasket.
Im Prohibited to drive a 'Daf' because of that... How do i do that ?
I drive it like a Detroit to squueeze some hp out. It rarely goes into 11th gear because i beat the life out of it.
Whereas when i drive a Volvo 13L engine 900-1300rpm max. (Driving it like a Cat)
Buuut that's paccar these days... Gunk.
They produce a new replacement for a already gunky 389... What do they do at Paccar they take the design of International and they run over it with a tank, light it on fire and try to make it look like a International again with a Paccar emblem... FAIL
379 was the last of the best series. (Just Cummins/Cat/Detroit engines and proper shifters)

Interesting, the MX13 has always been touted as bad juju, in my experience with the 13 liter class engine is gutless. I'm just a dump/bin truck driver I started driving trucks with 400 Cummins went on a 12 year hiatus from driving. Went back driving in 2015 in a 4700SB with DD13 Alison truck is 505hp sure doesn't feel like it a 400 Cummins would run circles around it. The second truck I drive is a LT9500 MBE4000 450hp 15spd its not big power either pulls hills better than the DD13. The 13 liter engines do fine for gravel trucks, short hauls, fuel economy is a bonus. The days are long gone when you could hear the growl of a 400 Big Cam. Any old mechanically injected engines are not that common anymore.

    • @nasheemwhye5197
      @nasheemwhye5197 ปีที่แล้ว

Fast rear ends or high gear ratios mean faster acceleration, but you lose top speed. Slower rear ends or low gear ratios mean slower acceleration, but better fuel economy and higher top speed. It is easy to figure out which rear end is right for you by considering where you want your RPMs to be when you are cruising at 65 to 70 mph for fuel economy and when hauling weight. You should also consider the region in which you operate your truck. If you are in urban areas with a lot of stop-and-go traffic, you will want a rear end with a lower gear ratio for fuel efficiency. If you are in hilly or mountainous areas, you will want a rear end with a higher gear ratio.
In the case of a fire truck, you will want a rear end with a high gear ratio for acceleration. This will allow you to get to the scene of the fire quickly and safely.

Friends, I have a dsfmotormx13, retard motor. Why does this engine damage the valve stem, and I have seen several cases that their valve stem also breaks quickly, and this is a weakness for this engine. Is this weakness due to the construction of this engine or is there a reason that causes this problem, please guide me, this is a problem.

MX-13 Motors will BANK RUPT your pocket book!Mike, I had to take my MX-13 motor out because my DEF system went out, and I didn’t have $30,000 USD to fix it, either. It also had a cracked head in five places, leaked coolant so bad that I had to top it off with coolant every 650 miles. MX-13/PACCAR motors are Cummins block, but ‘PACCAR components’ if that makes sense? Look at the valve cover of a PACCAR motor, and compare it to a Cummins, literally spitting image side by side. CAT’s are NOT similar to PACCAR, CAT’s are a much different breed of motor, and *DOES NOT* like to be lugged to death, if you do, you starve them of oil, etc, PACCAR’s are slightly similar, except for you don’t have to worry about breaking a CAM like you would on a C-15 ACERT, but instead you have to worry about breaking a head on PACCAR’s, and they are over 5,000.00 USD, I could swap my PACCAR out and replace it with a custom built Detroit that WONT fail, AND, get 10 miles per gallon (my PACCAR is a 579 w/ 80’ sleeper, ‘14 model). Why can’t we import the MX-16 from Australia, besides their EPA regulations being different from northern and southern America?

Paccar engines when they first came out were horrible, the joke was you had to buy 2 just to get one that might run. Even the Peterbilt techs were trashing them, Today is a different story they worked out a lot of the bugs and now from what I am hearing they are pretty solid. Whats funny is you say they are like Cats, if you do the history Paccar and Cummins in the beginning had a deal in place for Cummins to make their engines but the deal fell threw. Sorry Mike but the best engine on the market today is the Detroit DD15's and 16's in a Western Star.

Know too many guys on a 2nd to 3rd rebuild on a DD16. Also don't like the plastic oil pick up tube that causes your engine to grenade on both the 15 and 16 litre. The guys in the know of Detroit's are replacing the pick up tube and o rings at 400,000 km to prevent this.

I finally might make a intelligent comment. It is about the cow pee engines. First I don't know anything about them except they are the future of diesel engines and who puts the foot on the throttle. Yep, its all coming and those who hold out the longest are the last ones to even know the whys of there being there. Autonomous trucking or just a hobby owner as its about the laws past to deliver that freight. Law will dictate who can haul what and it won't let hobby Mike haul a postage stamp. We are sleeping and our government is making new laws on who can own a "spanner" or wrench here in the america's. That is either states Morgan or canada Mike, can do much more than a "special source fuel" just to start their truck. Much less fill their tank or tanks, as laws get changed will determine who can pull up to a fuel fill location. Right now we are oblivious as to whats going on around us, but there will be that day and then we just have a large toy. Plastic one on shelf to look at or steel and aluminum one setting in a shop that we can just look at. Right now I can pull whatever I drive to work in (motorcycle) up to a filling location, get some fuel and some coffee, a fresh bagel if its a real old station, and go to work. Meaning today when you went to work, you could choose a diesel rig or a gasoline engine car/truck to go in and sell someone else a rig that is going to deliver our mail, food, or anything at all. It might just get crazy enough to, they determine who does what period. Now that makes me scared. I'm relatively sure that it won't happen in our life span as I am 24 years older than you. Our kids or maybe since I am old enough to be your dad...I will make that my grandkids will be affected by these laws
