The stage is The Roman Theatre of Mérida is a construction promoted by the consul Vipsanius Agrippa in the Roman city of Emerita Augusta, capital of Lusitania (current Mérida, Spain). It was constructed in the years 16 to 15 B.C. One of the most famous and visited landmarks in Spain, the Roman Theatre of Mérida is regarded as a Spanish cultural icon and was chosen as one of the 12 Treasures of Spain.

Robe was for many years the lead singer of the band Extremoduro. Their first hit was the song "So payaso" (What a clown). I still love that song. Give it an ear when you have a chance.

His work with "Extremoduro" is what made him a top tier musician in Spain. They have a 30 minutes 1 song album called "Pedrá" quite cool. If you want more conceptual progressive stuff go to their last albums, if you want more urban rock and weird experimental songs go to the 90´s albums. "Agila", a 1996 album, is a classic and i think is a good starting point.

What a beautiful song. How can I start? (I am spanish native)
The song is a 'sad song'. All the song is 'crying out loud' because a loss. The thing losed is never said, but you can pretend that is a woman crying for a lost child, for example.
the piano chorus at the start is setting the mood for all the song, establishing a back and forth like a stifled and repressed sob.
Then, Robe (the singer and author), sings the start of the song:
    "It's over
    Now it's all over
    The days don't matter anymore
    Nor life
    Nothing of yesterday
Nor the dress I gave you
    The days don't matter anymore
    Nor life"
So, the plot is stablished: the song is a Sad Song because a loss. And then, here it comes the refrain:
    "It's so lonely, the day
    The whole day
    I spend trying to remember
    But I can't"
    "I've cried so much
And I've cried so deep inside
    I've cried so, so much
That I've turned off even Hell" (x2)
    "Never again
You'll dream again that I'm gone
    That I was disappearing
    I was losing you
    Never again
You will sit and watch again
    The color of the days
    Nor life"
and the refrain keeps repeating itself, more and more drowned in sorrow, sadder, and with more outbursts of rage for the loss. Don't try to understand the lyric, only follow the flow of the song, and you'll discover yourself crying of pure rage...

Thank you very much for this! This is an awesome break down of the song and a great analysis you really picked up up on a lot of sodalities that really drive the heart of the song. I would also add that this song is yet another great example of "its not what you play, its how you play it" and emotion moving through the music is what really takes over!

Progressive bands of andalusí rock like triana, Medina Azahara, los ciclos or los canarios would sound similar to this music style

  • @juliaurqui
    @juliaurqui 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

It truly seems there are more than 6 people on the stage. It is even more noticeable in other songs: the bassist can play the clarinet and the sax, and both the violinist and the second voice can play the bass. The pianist also plays the accordion in some songs. Nowadays they are 7, with one more guitarist.
Both Robe and Extremoduro (the previous band Roberto had) are awesome. If you are interested, they have lots of different songs. You could listen to "Puta", "Dulce introducción al caos" or "Si te vas...", for example. All of them are from Extremoduro, but the last one has a recent version from Robe. Regarding Robe's songs I'd recommend "Un suspiro acompasado" and "Tercer movimiento: un instante de luz".
I'm new here, but if you're a metalhead maybe you'll prefer songs like "Puta", "A fuego" and "Autorretrato".
