One of the more popular anime that we have never done a video on before on this channel is Black Lagoon, so we figured, why not? Beware that this is not a children’s anime, so some of the themes discussed and images displayed can be a little bit graphic. I actually got to meet Revy's voice actress at a My Little Pony convention. People went to get her autograph for her character Gilda the Gryphon but when she saw my DVD box set of Black Lagoon, not only was she super excited that one of her Revy fans were there but told me that Revy is her absolute favorite character to play. I even got a picture with her and I still have that box set to this day. :D It was only a few years ago but I remember that day well.

Anime, not right now. Manga however, scheduling is iffy but they’ve gone past it and it’s revolving around a Chinese agent and the Hacker chick from earlier.

@@balabanasireti I disagree and agree. Quite a few people know of it, but the anime passed it's prime a long time ago. It's very rare to see someone near you that has actually heard of black lagoon.
It's no longer mainstream in western countries.
There is practically no other show like Black Lagoon. I wish they continued the series. Its so good!!

If the poor Rei hiroe wasn't suffering from depression I'm pretty sure the manga would have more volumes and there would be enough material(there is only 3 new volumes of the manga) to make a season 3 of the anime
Give Jormungand a shot it's similar, but I really wish we could get another season of Black Lagoon at some point.
Cowboy Bebop has the same vibe.
Canaan is also fairly similar.
Number 108: Both $100 bills that Greenback Jane showed Revy and Eda were technically fake. The letter in the seal on the “real” bill did not match the city it was supposed to be minted from.

Revy is a amazing character & "Black Lagoon" is a great show/Manga.
what i find fascinating that the more complex characters stay in the background, like dutch and balalaika. Since they are already so developped it wouldn't make sense to give them a more complex character arc, and instead focuses on revy and rock because their change is more interesting than characters already completely fleshed eventhough i wished dutch and balalaika had more screen time.

@@orangeslash1667 I was just joking lol cuz you said screen time and manga isn’t on a screen. I’m only on volume 1 in the manga so I can’t say, but I know they go more into Dutch’s backstory later into the manga. I also haven’t seen the anime yet so i can’t really compare. Dutch and Benny have been in the first volume a lot tho.
Seems like they mixed up sister Yolanda and eda. Yolanda is the oldest member of the ripoff church and eda is the one shown here 7:44 and she uses a glock 17L chambered in 9mm. Sister Yolanda uses a dessert eagle

The barrels Revy uses on her 92FS’s are also threaded for suppressors or compensators, despite never using any.
You forgot to mention that in the manga Revy also used to have been a dominatrix.

It’s the fact I’m not surprised but pleased to know about this-
Revy does give off the vibe and she makes a lotta guys do what she wants or shoots them. So makes sense and good to know 👍
If you did another one or a mini one for Roberta's Blood Trail an interesting fact is in the manga she ends that arc virtually unscathed but in the anime they gave her some lasting battle damage like losing a few fingers and I think one of her eyes along with some other stuff I can't remember exactly it's been a long time.

One of the few anime I recommend watching both in the Japanese and English dub.
This and death note gave me more hope for dubs

In a interview Rei Hiroe has said when writing the story he imagines everyone speaking English as said in this video. So the English is the cannon version.
@@ajsanime that's actually quite important, I always consider the sub to be the correct version and the dub to be the one with the localization compromises. It being in reverse makes a big difference and makes the dub uniquely interesting
Best anime in over the past few decades. Narration, animation, characters. Not too many shows can drown you in the feeling the anime tries to convey.
5:10 While it's true that Rock points to Ronnapur's location around Trat in the map, I believe Ronnapur is directly inspired by bigger water port cities that is somewhat infamous for sketchy business and smuggling crime such as Chanthaburi or Pattaya cities rather than Trat which is a small city.
Frederrator...please make another 107 facts on Black Lagoon! There's so much you left out! Such as Roberta and her young master being the voices behind Spike and Rarity, Sawyer the cleaner, The Wizard and many other characters knowing each others line of work, and the incredible voice cast from Ocean Group!!!!!

since this came out I'd LOVE to see some vids of 107 facts about Ranma 1/2 and/or Inuyasha considering they were both dubbed by Ocean Studios... people focus way too much on the Texas stuff based on their monopoly... give Vancouver some love that's what I say.

Oh, for those of you who doesn´t know, the song that is suppose to play during the boat chase scene when she turns on her cassette player is Electric Head Part 1 by Rob Zombie as they were the lyrics written in the manga. You mentioned "her taste in music is referenced" but actually didn´t mentioned WHAT she listened too. ^_^;
I'm fairly sure the grenade launcher used by Revy wasn't a China Lake and just a regular M79 instead.

The China Lake grenade, launcher is used by the "mini maid" Faboiola Iglesias.
the lighting of the cigarettes' together was inspired by a scene in a Korean movie called "A Stray Bullet" and yes it symbolized a kiss in that movie.
Dutch wasn't a soldier. He was a Marine river boat operator.
Watched Black Lagoon about 2 months ago. I enjoyed season 1 and season 2 even more. Wish we got a season 3

For Revy there is a mention she worked in one of the Brothels in one of the episodes in bdsm department, i think owner of the place asks her if she wants to go back at some point as she was good at it
i'd say rock gets desensitized pretty quick, theirs an episode where he wakes up, makes coffee, and then looks out the window to casually wave at chainsaw girl as she's cutting up bodies in a back alley dude, jeeze lol

Thats not a China Lake granade launcher, it is a standard issue M79 single shot break action granade launcher, from the same era, Vietnam.
No. 58: The extra length on the barrels is because they are threaded for a suppressor. In close up shots you can see the inside edge of what would be a nut protecting the threads.
Bonus fact: Revy's japanese VA is also the VA who voiced junko enoshima from danganronpa.
Rocks JP VA on the other hand is also the VA who voiced hisoka from hunter x hunter

Benny's Roadrunner and GTO are left hand drive because they're imports. This is even brought up when he has issues getting parts.
Black Lagoon is one of the most underrated anime of all time.
I remember first watching some season 1 episodes with my brothers, but I became a fan a few years ago upon watching the entire show, and I hope they continue the anime. I often watch gameplay videos of people playing the pachinko and slot machines just to watch newer anime designed footage.
Fact 108 Jormundgand and Black Lagoon are in the same universe. There is a side chapter where a very young Koko sells Revy makeup.

You are one of the few guys i have found that acknowledges this anime. Very few youtubers have reacted to it. The ones I did find never got past the first couple of episodes. I DEMAND MORE REACTIONS TO THIS AWESOME ACTION SHOW!!
Fun fact: Yolanda’s English voice actress’ (Shirley Millner) biggest role outside of “Black Lagoon” was voicing Hexadecimal from “Reboot.” As a die hard fan of “Black Lagoon” and “Reboot,” I was very surprised when I found this out.
The Hawaiian shirt is a got to operator shirt for the area/time. The untucked style and distracting patterns allow easier concealed weapon carry

I recall seeing commercials about this when it was premiering on Toonami. I stayed up and watched the first episode... I was hooked. I think I watched at least up to the start of the twins arc that very night online. Keep in mind i started it at 2am... WORTH IT!
I honestly believe Black Lagoon is the only anime that is genuinely mature. I need more recommendations for truly mature anime

There were U-boats that were transporting heavy water to the Japanese for their nuclear weapons program when the war in Europe ended. It is totally plausible that it was one of these U-boats.
Fact 108: In the Manga Garcia and the Lagoon Company were already in the Yellow Flag and where drinking when suddenly the shootout started, instead of the Anime Version when they were arriving at the Yellow Flag at the moment when Roberta started the shootout
Fact 109: When the Lagoon company recived the intel from Mr.Chang to deliver to the CIA, they where chased by some Boats of the Terrorist
This was the first anime I ever saw after my friend from college had been trying to get me to watch for literally years.

Black lagoon is the most 2000's anime and I love it
Amazing review for an amazing show, also learned a lot from the show and its backstory as well. Some quick fixes though: Fact 35 regarding Edna is that Yolanda actually carries the Desert Eagle, but Edna carries what looks a Glock 34 Gen 2 by the look of the length and lack of attachment slot underneath the frame. Another is fact 98 regarding the grenade launcher viewed is actually an M79 rather than being a China Lake.
My dream is to win the lottery so I can finance a live action Black Lagoon. I figured the only person who could do it justice as director was Quentin Tarantino because his balls-to-the-walls movies are the closest thing to anime out there. Learning that his movies inspired the anime only reaffirms my choice for director.
Here's something I've always wanted to know-- is there a credit for the English language script? I'm firmly in the camp of those who hold that this is one of the rare anime which has to be watched in the English dub. I would like to know who accomplished this masterpiece.
Also, is there word on another season/barrage? This and Gate are the two anime whose stories desperately need to be continued .

This is one Anime that would be interesting if made into a Live-Action Movie. Considering that they did this with Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in a Shell which were just O.K., Black Lagoon could maybe do better at the box office.

Also, the "Sword Cutlass" inscription might be a reference to the early 2000s Romeo and Juliet movie (the one with Leo Decaprio in it), wherein, since it was modern, all of the references to swords in the original play were converted to firearms, most of which had "sword 9mm" engraved on them.
I binge watched all the seasons in 2021 and it was worth it.
The show came out when I was in college. There was no youtube yet, as far as I recall, and to get it, one had to go on IRC. We all lined up to download the latest episode, as soon as fansubs were ready. Anime as a genre was just starting to go mainstream.

remy does not use a china lake. she uses a standard breach action M79, the china lake is basically a over sized pump action shotgun, but is chambered in 40mm. just a heads up.
Thing with 47, this is only a canon by the anime event. In the manga as of writing this, the cop molesting her is not part of her actual background (what little is told of it). Granted if your list is by the anime only (which it seems to be) then you can ignore this comment.
I just had the terrifying thought of just how many people Revy has killed in her life...

It is one of a kind I love it. The only anime I like actually. It just is not like any other show within the genre. The characters are deeply written and have elements raw emotion, grit and a sensitive or dark side, introspection etc. The action is amazing and unlike other shows, it has substance, rather than just being flat and one dimensional.
Fact#9 is a fun fact, like the guy who made Dexter's laboratory, is the same guy who made primal on adult swim.
