I have finally realized that Bloomfield is probably the greatest blues guitarist in history. He owns the essence and free flowing originality of blues. Not to take anything away from the other greatests Johnny Winters, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimi Hendrix. Bloomfield is the dive bar blues master hands down.
I can't even imagine a better electric blues guitarist. Bloomers was both MELODIC and MEAN at the same time, characteristics that are usually exclusive to each other. Thanx for posting this track.
Incredible soft touch and rich tone by Mike B. Just the best Les Paul blues player. Let's you savor every note and phrase. Nick G vocals the perfect counterpoint. Great trade off between them.
To Zinedine......here is my twice a year THANK YOU...for "Wintry" and all the other Bloomfield you have graced us with. It's 1 a.m. in Boston, Ma...and I'm alone in a dark house....fuckin DIGGIN....this track. Cheers.............
Let's not miss the lyrics... "I'm gonna build me a little snowman, baby; Oh I'm gonna cover him with my tears; Yes, and when he melts in the spring time, Lord, yes, he's gonna take all my thoughts of you; Beautiful imagery, easily missed because it's so slow and there is so much soulful response going on from the guitar.
you prolly dont care but does anyone know of a tool to get back into an instagram account..? I was dumb lost the password. I would love any assistance you can give me.
I came up as a young guitar player idolizing MB. Still love this old stuff. He had developed a very tasteful style, incorporating sensitive dynamics and tonal subtleties, use of space, interesting modal lines, and one of my fav's... his distinctive pitch-bend down, rather than merely up. He died too young: I think he was left by friends in his car during a heroin overdose.
Michael asked me if I would like a request. I requested a smouldering slow blues, this is what I got, thanks Michael RIP never was anybody so nice. This song is take fom an earlier Gravanities tune, thank to you too Nick
Hey, lay off, Mark's piano is usually excellent and this guy is just noting it. I love Bloomer, listen to him since 1965, but nothing wrong with praising Naftalin.
From 1969's My Labors by Nick Gravenites-vocals by him too.Bloomers was as good as it got.Thanks,ZINEDINE05, for posting his stuff-there are things posted by you that i didn't know Mike did.
you met michael?wow, thats awesome!thanks for checking my videos out, hope you like some of my other selections.mikes music and guitar playing are very special to me and i'm glad i get to share this stuff with his fellow fans. see you on the tube Curt!take care. Terence
I agree Chavee49. If youve noticed I'm starting to do that, because I have way to much extended material that I want to share with everyone.I hate the 10 minute max on videos.
this is one of my favorites. its an absolute shame how pennebaker edited out the flag's whole set from the movie. i would love to hear that speech too.
Great track! Long live Mike Bloomfield! I am waiting for someone to upload his 10 minute great speech he gave the "Love Crowd" at Monterey Pop Festival about "how beautiful and groovy they were. This is some GREAT guitar playing.
@stonemojo This isn't the Electric Flag. It's MIke Bloomfield & Friends. It's from the same set of shows that the material from "Live At Bill Grahams fillmore" was taken from.
Thanks Z...I'm amazed at the wealth of Bloomfield you have. I've always thought there was a limited amount of his recorded stuff. Apart from the Kooper/Bloomfield recordings, I have "Don't Say That I Ain't Your Man! Michael Bloomfield Essential Blues 1964 - 1969". Listening to the stuff you've posted has blown me away! BTW, there's one song missing from the 'Super Session' collection in your posts - "You Don't Love Me". Would be nice to hear that again. Thanks again...
i read somewhere that pennebaker showed truman capote the monterey footage. capote then told pennebaker that the electric flag looked tacky and that he shouldnt put them in the movie.sad but true!!
this is from the my labors cd.the song actually begins with a really nice 3 minute piano solo by mark naftalin that i had to remove to upload the track.youtubes 10 minute maximum for videos really stinks.i hate posting edited tracks, but mikes work on this was to good not to share it.
I saw it live in person this and another show the audience was transfixed. At that time Michael was the best slow blues player with Albert king they had this slow blues power awesome to behold. It was Gravinites gig, that is the way Michael worked it.. this song and blues on the Westside on album "My Labors". The horn section wasn't too good though here.
"i hate posting edited tracks" - ZINEDINE05 Hi Z... I know it's a drag to post edited tracks, but you could do us die-hard Bloomie fans a favor by posting them in 2 parts. These days there are numerous software programs that can join them with ease. Thanks dude!

I'm on a Bloomfield jag and it wouldn't be complete without some Mike and Nick. Loved this song for almost 50 years & it sounds as good now as then

If you get the complete Monterey Pop Festival, there is a dvd of the outtakes which include Electric Flag and Butterfield among others.
