  • Step into the world of vintage model kits with my latest TH-cam video featuring the iconic Airfix Coastal Defence Fort from 1971. I've taken this classic kit and added my own twist, building it to my own specifications and giving it a unique flair.
've also cannibalized an Airfix 1969 Gun Emplacements kit to add small details like stairs and ventilation shafts, taking this model to the next level. Although it's based on the Atlantik wall, I can't help but feel like it's more inspired by the classic movie "The Guns on Navarone".
For me, this model has great nostalgic value as I had it when I was a little boy. It's a symbol of my childhood and my love for model building. So join me on this journey as I bring this classic model to life, from start to (almost) finish.
Whether you're a seasoned model builder or just starting out, this video is a must-watch. Get ready to be transported to a world of intricate details, creative solutions, and pure nostalgia. Hit play now and let's see how this vintage model kit comes together!

This is just soooo good. I need to build one myself using your techniques. What a great build.

Built this back in the '70's along with the Airfix gun emplacement. Recently bought the Airfix D-day anniversary set which contains the latest reissue of this model. Always reminds me of going to see "The guns of Navarone" with my dad as a kid back in the '70's.

Same here. As you could see in the flick, I still have an original part of that 70's bunker. Back then I had it covered with snow effect, which is still on :)

I had these kits. From the beautiful time when kids played with toys instead of feeding their screen addiction 24/7

    Oh my! Nostalgia!
My oldman bought these kits around early 2000s and we still have them.

I built one of these a few years back, but detailed it to look like it would do now, in a parlous state, fenced off, but having a couple of figures on it representing 'Urbexers'. It's a fun little kit, with endless possibilities.
Yours looks superb. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍👍

Nice work. I make up toy soldier sets to give away and I got the D-Day anniversary box which has this emplacement in it. As it will be a toy (ie useful) I need to modify the roof on the wings to allow troops to go inside. I have been musing on how best to do that for several years (whilst getting on with other stuff). Also plan to replace or rather modify the gun barrels to longer/thinner types. To go with it I got the Amera gun emplacement, which also needs the roof mod for access. There again if it was easy it wouldn't be much of a hobby.

👍 ace mate, I'm afraid mine didn't survive child hood, bangers were far to easy to come by in those far off days!

Speaking as a U.S. model builder of the 60s and 70s Airfix models of ground structures like this were hard to come by. Planes and ships were available (planes more so).
Frog (Airline Brothers) planes were infrequent too, though I once scored a Vickers Vimy in a small town drug store that must have been sitting on the shelf for years.

Brilliant and worth watching again , the attention to detail is second to none!..however i noticed the size of the sandbags, at that scale they would engulf the 1/72 figure. But other than that , well done! 😊

Way beyond my skill, it was entertaining to watch. One small suggestion for future projects: guns this big would most likely use powder bags, not casings. One-piece ammunition at this kind of caliber would be too heavy for the artillerymen to handle. Hoists would handle the projectile while the powder bags were well within the capabilities of the crew to carry unassisted.

Very nice build but for a working fortress it is much to dirty! No german fortressposition were in such bad condition. It look like it was abandoned for decades... but then the guns should be removed. I like your addings to the kit.. overall a awesome result.
