Built my first Sherman when it came out, bought on holiday in Blackpool. I also bought a copy of Airfix magazine on the same visit to Woolies. I still have some of the early magazines in my collection. Currently building 1/6th scale metal models, which take a long time to complete and are extremely expensive! Great video and paint work too. I remember the damaged building at 09.35 minute and 12.31 minutes, you just caught a glance of it. I could be wrong but did it have damaged floor boards that were part of the roof. Not sure how I missed the WW1 tanks growing up, maybe alittle before my time.
Thank you, the building you spotted is the Airfix forward command post. I does have damaged floor boards. The WW1 tank gets re-released from time to time, mine are quite recent builds. Had to catch up with the Cold War vehicles as well as I was focused on the WW2 models. Thank you for your comment
Great nostalgia again, built every one over the years with many as duplicates for wargameing....30 plus shermans,9 tigers,15 or so p4s,15 t34s,6 88s,about eight of each of the matildas and crusaders and at least 6 of every other ww2 kit, most still in my armies some 50 plus years of age but happy times.
Wow that is impressive numbers! The Sherman is a favorite of mine. I will have to go and count them! Its no 30. Some of mine are original from 1970's I am still enjoying making them. Thanks for your great comment
Incredible to see the entire original AV range including the turret options, shading and weathering is excellent, even the tracks didn't seem to bother you, great display, look forward to the RAF sets, the only other one I can think of is the Short Stirling Bomb trolley! I've got the little Tractor in my display case, I really like this scale for Amoured vehicles and the double pairings especially, have you built any of the Matchbox AV range?
I do have some Matchbox models for a future video. I really liked the diorama bases. Thanks for the reminder of the tractor and bomb trolley, I will include that. I have made a video on the Airfix RAF four engine bombers so it does appear with the Stirling. I did want to show the options with the turrets I thought it was clever idea from Airfix. It was enjoyable to build the whole range even the collectible Sam missile. Thanks for your great comment
These models are very nicely constructed and painted to a high standard, that much is apparent. I have two questions for you, though. I’ve never seen nor heard of the SA-2 kit. You say the mold was lost? Do you have anymore info about that? How does a mold get lost at a factory? Also, you mention the name of the”Essex” multiple times. Who or what is that and how does it relate to Airfix? Thank you for your video of these classic and marvelous kits and I would appreciate your answers if you have the time.
I always make time. The word Essex must really be Airfix. I will have to blame my accent or the microphone! The Sam-2 Guideline missile is a mystery. A lot of Airfix moulds were taken to the Heller factory in France. I think when Humbrol owned the brands. The moulds were lost or damaged during the journey. I have made another video about the Sam 2 and Bloodhound missiles. Thank you for watching, taking the time to comment and the kind compliment
Remember having that bombed house in 1/72 and 1/32, or was it 1/35, either way, would go round my friends and set up our soldiers that take turns with marble shots, fond memories.
The house you mentioned features in quite a lot of my videos. The Airfix strongpoint was made in 1/32 and 1/72. Sounds like you had fun! Thanks for your comment
A point about uniform. The RAF police dog handler ought, I believe, to have a white topped hat and webbing. As always an enjoyable presentation.... it's nostalgia central!
Oh yes, he needs to be smarter. I am going to build the RAF sets soon so he will get an update. I do love sharing the nostalgia I should use that for my channel name. Thanks for your comment
Thank you. Very nice to hear from Latvia 🇱🇻 They are all old kits, some I built a long time ago, some are new builds, the Cold War vehicles. I still use Humbrol enamel paints and “old” methods. Glad to know you liked the collection. Thank you for your comment
I didn’t know that, unless you were unlucky and got a faulty one. The tricky part for me was all the separate axles! Still built them though because I like Panther tanks. Thanks for watching and for your comment
Lovely set of models there. I always liked the WW1 Mark 1 tank, but it was only a few years ago, that I discovered that it wasn't correct, in several small ways. It's based on the mild steel prototype, called 'Mother', for one thing, and also, the name 'HMLS DRAGONFLY' is completely fictional. The 'cheesedish' shaped hatch on the top should not be there on a MK1, and neither should the exhaust pipe - the exhaust did come out of a hole on the top, but it was covered by a series of overlapping louvres. The steering trailer was a cumbersome nuisance, and very often removed in the field. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice kit, and looks good alongside the EMHAR Mk IV.
I liked the Airfix WW1 tank, I didn’t know about the inaccuracies. I had heard that the steering wheels soon got removed. The Emhar kits are great and include a Whippet and the German A7V. Glad you liked the video it was enjoyable to build all the military kits. Really appreciate your comments and support
Most of their kits have errors. The largest one is the Sdkfz which is famous for the kit having two mudguards over each set of two wheels, each side, when the real thing had a single mudguard over all four wheels. Egregious error that was a deliberate choice so that the mould layouts would be easier.
The scale is 1/76. The figures are 20mm high. Airfix produced these model kits from 1960 to 1980 many are still available in shops to buy today. Airfix list them as vintage classics. Thank you for your interest
The models are 1/72. OO is 16.5mm railway track gauge with 1/76 (4.00 mm to the foot) scale. HO is 16.5 mm track gauge gauge with 1/87 (3.5mm to the foot) scale, more accurately proportional than OO. Your heading is drivel! Why post inaccurate information?

Hi from Latvia (ex-USSR) ! Very nice and rare collection. Dry brush method rules.
Thank you. Very nice to hear from Latvia 🇱🇻 They are all old kits, some I built a long time ago, some are new builds, the Cold War vehicles. I still use Humbrol enamel paints and “old” methods. Glad to know you liked the collection. Thank you for your comment
Very nice. Great video
You are very kind, glad you enjoyed i. Thanks for your comment
The original Panther had a ridicuously small gun on it, never got a second one so I don't know when they corrected it.
I didn’t know that, unless you were unlucky and got a faulty one. The tricky part for me was all the separate axles! Still built them though because I like Panther tanks. Thanks for watching and for your comment
You're welcome!
Very cool!
It’s always nice to build a complete set. Thank you for your comment
@iatsd oh yes those mudguards!
I like the bren carrier as it was called
It’s a great kit. Everywhere the British army were there were Bren carriers. Thanks for your comment
Love the scammel pioneer and lvt
I really enjoyed building all these vintage kits. The Scammel is one of the most challenging to build. Thank you for watching and for your comment
Nice!!!👍
Thank you, I spent too much time looking at the Airfix catalogue and this is the result!
Very good indeed.
Thank you, glad you liked the video, thanks for your comment
Does airfix do any 1:87 scale models?
Not to my knowledge. Thanks for watching.

Thank You!
Доброго дня это масштаб 1:100 ?
The scale is 1/76. The figures are 20mm high. Airfix produced these model kits from 1960 to 1980 many are still available in shops to buy today. Airfix list them as vintage classics. Thank you for your interest
Goes great with my Marx Invasion Day set🇨🇦
Great to hear from Canada 🇨🇦 nice to hear about your collection. Thanks for watching and for your comment
OBSOLETE TOTAL
This is a nostalgic look at the military model kits Airfix made between 1960 to 1980
The models are 1/72.
Usually I would say thank you for the information you have added. The information is from the catalogue and from the boxes. My channel is about enjoying seeing these vintage models and enjoying a bit of nostalgia. It would have been nice if you explained the scales without being derogatory
I agree with you completely Graham. The comment was unnecessarily derogatory and mean spirited. I enjoyed admiring your models and listening to your commentary. I too have built many of these kits over the years and have a collection which I am very proud of. I am currently building the Scammell tank transporter and you are correct in saying that it is a difficult kit to get right. Keep enjoying the hobby and posting more nostalgic videos like this one for us to enjoy. All the best from Down Under here in Australia.🙂@@grahamhurst4613
Good luck with the Scammel! You will get there. Thanks for your support and encouragement. Like you say a lot of people enjoy seeing these kits. My aim is get people building model kits and enjoying the hobby. It’s always great to hear from Australia 🇦🇺
