I'm 43. For my 18th birthday my dad bought me a track driving tuition day at CC. I had 18 laps in the morning in a Fiesta XR2i with an instructor. And the afternoon was 18 laps in a Formula Ford. It PISSED it down and most of my session in the open wheeler was spent on an inch or two of water. I learnt so much in those laps. From not getting out of second in the early stages, to using all four gears on Dean straight before Camp corner. I had been getting the rear moving in a fairly predictable manner, graduating from 2nd gear wiggles and drifts at Quarry and in the closing laps I had started to tease a little yaw out of Camp onto the start/finish straight, which became a satisfying little drift on lap 16 At the end of lap 17, setting out on 18 and my last time through Camp at "racing" 🤭 speed, I discovered the limits of my capabilities and felt my heart in my throat as the car began to swap ends. I managed two full pirouettes down the start finish straight, coming to rest pointed straight and pretty much right in front of a pair of marshals, who were very annoyed. I had stalled, so they had to push me off. I guess I created a bit of a hazard... Incidentally, two middle aged guys (probably the age I am now! 😂) had arrived at lunch time, having flown themselves there by helicopter. I figured they were expert drivers who didn't need the tuition and were only interested to drive the Formula Ford. One of them WHACKED his car hard into the barrier, ruined it and I do believe somewhat injured himself, his leg or legs I think. I can't remember where exactly he crashed, I think it was somewhere after Quarry at the back there. And I am certain that his friend also crashed. I think they had three or maybe even four of those cars damaged and I think only about seven or eight of us were driving. Anyway. I have really rambled, but to be honest it's one of those stories that I love to share. I've always said that I gained a solid ten years of on-road vehicle handling knowledge, in that one day spent at CC. The instructor was brilliant, and the leap of faith they made, setting 18 year old me up to drive a mad little open wheel racer in two inches of water at such a fast circuit (this was before they put a chicane in before Camp corner) was impressive and testament to their teachings. I am not ashamed to say that I discovered my talent for driving that day. :) I will always be grateful to my dad for that foresight. I learnt skills that day which probably saved me from myself over the subsequent decade or so of "experimental" driving! If you are a parent and you have the chance to give your new driver child a similar opportunity, please do so!! I know I plan to. 😊
The Mitsu RVR's weird door position is made that way so that passengers won't leave onto oncoming traffic . just like that weird big Mini with rear doors on the right hand side
I remember going to Miniworld action day at coombe back in 2002, I had a track pass and didnt take it on track, but went out with a friend in his Mini 40... We spun on quarry and had a load of minis coming at us. He also did it on the road in newquay, we went round a corner and found him stopped in the middle of the lane facing us.
I was gutted to miss this show this year for the first time in over a decade (through the various name changes). Glad I got to experience some of it through this video though, thanks. I was intending to be on track in the FN2 as well but looking at the weather I'm not too upset to have missed that part.
Good to see James' red ST165 GT-Four on the Celicaclub stand at the beginning of the vid..you can't film in detail every car but well worth your time if you see it again for a closer look Adam. Rare now. Engine bay is sweet too,another bit of engine build work by "Bek",like my Beams 162. Good watch this vid though,nice job fella.
😂 6.56mins I just watched that s14 do a challenge with Geo by luke on OG battles lol 😂 won't say who won incase anyone hasn't watched it lol 😂 but looks like a fun day and I'd still not care about filming a chaser as it's my dream car among others as they are really cool and just sound amazing almost makes my hairs stand on end when they are at high revs being thrashed a little lol 😂

This being my local circuit, I’m pretty sure almost every time I’ve gone, I’ve seen somebody go off on that corner (crashes are common there).
