Firearm injuries are now the leading cause of death for children in the U.S. In the event that a firearm injury is not fatal, the victim is often left with lasting injuries which can include a traumatic brain injury. Alyssa Preszler is the injury prevention coordinator and Safe Kids coordinator for Sanford Health in Bismarck, and has a passion for preventing injuries, especially from guns. Alyssa covers why safety around firearms is so important, steps parents and professionals can take to secure guns within homes, and the correlation between firearm injuries and suicidal ideation.
