Audio upgrades! Cool. I've done a few audio upgrades in 5th Gen 4Runners. Here are some impacting 100% plug & play items I've done, most recently in my 21 TRD ORP. Speakers: Front Doors Infinity Kappa 693M 6x9, rear doors and rear hatch Infinity Kappa 62ix 6 1/2", dash Pioneer TS-A709 2-3/4" 2-way speakers. Please check out the Beat-Sonic Amplifier PA2T3K Kit for our head-units. It's a plug & play class A/B amp bumps up our output to a true 45 watts per channel x 4 channels at .01% total harmonic distortion. At ~$270 this is no-brainer and a very noticeable improvement to the non-JBL systems. It's super high quality and made in Japan.
@vikings Garage Thanks for taking a look at it and the install video! It really does make a huge difference compared to the factory system. 30-60min and under $100 made this mod a no brainer!
Big thanks on this video! For us, the driver side dash speaker failed on our '16 4runner limited. I did everything the same as you, EXCEPT I ordered the Red Wolf wiring harness for the JBL system. That plus everything you did worked out. One side note, you do in fact need a longer screw for the passenger side which I had to buy on the day of install. Again thank you for the video!
Thanks for the great video. As a suggestion and from what I have seen Toyota do, is wrap those plastic connections in one sided sticky foam. Avoids and potential annoying rattles that may surface later.
My heart was crying when you had to shave the grill 😂 I learnt decades ago that sound quality is all relative and gave up spending money on it. I just appreciate OEM paper cone speakers for the sake of durability and mediocre performance.
Those older cars are great. I do believe you are right on that one. Newer cars have entirely too much crap. I believe less is more. That S2000 is not driven enough. 😅
The brackets seem to work as described, but it would have been nice to include new hardware that fits. The connections get pinched and the sound cuts out. I'm going back in tomorrow to find the right orientation. Anyone have this issue? Do I need to cover the connections with electric tape?
Ya the upgraded JBL system is really nice. I'm surprised that even in the JBL system the tweeter is still a single 1" tweeter and not the 3.5" coaxial like this. You can do the upgrade on the limited as well, but you just use the wiring from the OEM tweeters and not the adapter listed
I have a 13 jbl package. I've replaced all the speakers out to cerwin vega besides the dash speakers. Sounds alot better now. Doing dash tweeters now because they really suck. I'm removing the jbl head unit and amp and sub. I'm doing a jl xd 700/5 with 12 w3.
Viking! Amazing vids! Can you do vid on driving in snow with 4Runner, what you do for settings while dealing with challenging roads and if you use chains on your 4Runner for mountain passes?
Quite a few people have. You will just need to do some slight modification of the harness that is already on the JBL speaker. But you won't need to buy the redwolf harness, just the adapter and 3.5" speaker. The addition of the larger 3.5" speaker over just the tweeter in the TRD PRO is a noticeable upgrade. It will still get louder than stock tweeter and have a lot of midrange that is completely missing from the stock JBL and non-JBL dash tweeters.
Ahh love a clear and simple install video! Question, I noticed the speaker box in the video was for the “3032CFX” but the link provided is for the previous gen “3022CFX”. The speaker bracket was designed for the “3022CFX”. Can you confirm if you used the newer “3032CFX” speaker and that the the bracket still works fine? Thank you!!
This will work on most 3.25 speakers so either should be fine! docs.google.com/document/d/15hmcC8Zk_aV0ljRCv_-nCW5iHmg1MzR7-I5VKJK98Lw/edit?usp=sharing
They're designed for the 5th Gen 4Runner. Some designs are similar between Toyota trucks, but it is not verified to fit anything other than the 2010-2024 4Runners
The sound on my factory 23 TRD Off Road Premium system sounds OK sitting still, but going down the highway it sounds like parts of the music is missing unless you crank it up louder, will this fix that problem you think? Really enjoy watching your videos !!
Honestly, it probably does. Can’t say with certainty. I honestly since installing them, feel as if the songs are more crisp more lively if that makes any sense.
@@TerryM-hb6sy Hey! I really noticed an improvement with my 2020TRD ORP on highway with mud tires. The dash speakers get a lot louder now with the full 3.5" upgrade. I am the seller of the adapters haha so take that how you may, but I had the mod going on four years now before I started selling the adapters this winter and love it.
4:30 thanks for putting this together. To clarify, do the bass blockers come pre-installed? Or I have to buy a soldering iron and take care of that before installing the speakers?
Thank you! You made this mod so easy & inexpensive! I ordered ALL parts from your links, but there is a modification I had to make. If you have upgraded, JBL speakers you NEED a different WIRING HARNESS. Order for Anazon: "Red Wolf update car dash Tweeter Speaker wiring harness for select Toyota". In the photos it will show that it fits 2018-2019 TRD/Limited with JBL.
Happy new year! Shit it's starting to snow up by you? I'm down in tomsriver, too warm to snow here, I was out draining the pool from all the rain we've been having 😭
I hear you, it’s way too cold here. It literally stop 30 minutes after I shoot that scene. Tomsriver can be fun, specially during Summer.😎 Happy New Year!!
Jbl is ok. Better than stock papper speaker. There some kind of decent looking plastic speakers but the 8 in is a paper woofer. Probably a midbass from the looks of it. Ive done a full replacement to all cerwin vega coaxials speakers. Other than dash. Doing dash here soon because im putting a sub in. Bought audio control loc to find out its a big headache with the jbl package alot of splicing into from what crunchfeild said. Was 1st told it would b easy then a yr later when about to install my system i saved up to get then i was told it was gonna b alot of wrk. Because of interface with gps and other shit because that amp powers others stuff u cant juat eliminate that amp Because the factory radio wouldn't work. So now i went pioneer head unit. I bought a jl xd 700/5 amp with one 12w3. Cant wait to hear it all hooked up and powered by a real amp on 8 speakers.
1. I love the Vikings Garage videos and content. This is just one man's opinion. But I wanted to share my feedback. 2. When VG posted pictures with a title of plug and play, I did not hesitate and do not watch the video I just trusted and ordered all the stuff. Figured I would watch the video later. Big mistake. 3. It is not 100% plug and play. 4. Different 4Runners take a different plug adapter so check your year and model. Amazon even says the one VG recommends has been returned a bunch. It is the wrong one for my 4Runner. Had to order the correct plug adapter. Still have to go return the wrong one. 5. Had to buy a Dremel-type tool to modify the speaker dash panel. That sucks, that is not plug and play, but ok. Done. Now I have a new tool that I have always wanted Yay! (Bought a less expensive amazon version works fine). 6. You can use the factory screws from the speakers to mount the new speaker to the 3d printed bracket that you order. No need to find screws. 7. You only need one bolt a little longer that was not clear in the video. Hard to find, but ok a little drilling of the factory clip/bracket and a 3/4" bolt of similar type from Ace Hardware will work. Pain in the neck trip to the store and another modification, not plug and play. 8. The speakers are larger and by basically the same company (JBL) but are they better? 9. Does not sound that different to me. I will keep them for a bit and see, but it is not overwhelmingly different at first listen. UPDATE ok they are louder and more bass in the dash. 10. Verdict: Not sure I would do this if I had seen the video first. But if you have a blown speaker this video helps.

Hey @mikecandler4350 do you mind sharing the link to the adapter you used to fit your upgraded factory JBL system? The one linked is for the non-JBL systems found on the models other than limited and pro trims.
I added this same setup to my 4Runner, and after about 3 weeks the front right sounds like it’s completely blown. I never play music loud so I’m a bit confused, any ideas?
