    0:00 Intro
0:05 Unfortunately I did not get more information regarding this clip. But as I mentioned the customer said he only used oil additives and doesn't put actual engine oil in it (weird). There are a couple of things that can cause the engine oil to look like this jelly. I've seen internal coolant leaks in the engine cause this. The engine oil and coolant mix and makes a jelly substance like the one shown. My other idea is that the customer used a bunch of different oil additives and mixed them together which caused this to happen. I would send an "oil" sample to get tested and see what the results are and go from there. The mechanic did say they just replaced the engine as per the customer's request.
0:25 Mechanic, shops, and dealerships don't have the ability to not let a customer leave (where I live anyway). So to protect their butts they get the customer to sign a waiver stating that they told them they need new tires and it's not safe to drive on the roads. Where I live, we've had to do this and if the vehicle is really unsafe we have to call a Peace Officer and notify them. Then the Peace Officer handles it from there and can take the customer's vehicle off the road, fine them, etc...
0:41 The o-ring sits underneath the fuel pump and you can describe the lock ring somewhat as a nut. It tightens so the fuel pump stays in place. So with that being loose and no o-ring it was leaking fuel. Also, the van is a diesel and diesel fuel expands slightly in volume as temperature increases. So they most likely filled it up and drove for a bit then realized this.
0:59 Rubber gloves, masking tape, and some other stuff got stuck in the power steering reservoir and the power steering pump (you can see them removing a blue nitrile glove). Since there was a restriction and a restriction of fluid going to the p/s pump it overheated and the power steering stopped working.
1:22 I dislike those battery terminals. They're okay for a temporary fix in my opinion. Also, the vehicle didn't start since the person who tightened down the clamp, didn't tighten on the exposed copper wire that's showing. So obviously it didn't start, since it can't make a connection.
1:31 It got towed in, not driven in. I should have been more specific on that.
1:40 Mechanic said: "Got recovered in because the gearbox dropped down whilst they were driving it, was a Renault master van and used one downward-facing bolt for the gearbox mount which gave up, was a local business and they asked why we can't just put a new mount on it and send it."
1:47 A very rusty floor on a 1995 F-150. You can see the seat belt dangling underneath.
1:59 As mentioned this vehicle has roadside assistance for 5 years but the customer decided not to use it. They could have called for a free tow truck or to have somebody install their spare tire. The mechanic said the wheel was luckily not damaged.
2:12 Plug & patch. That need's to be inside the tire to actually work and don't use duct tape to "fix" a tire.
2:22 Look's like the customer drove with loose lug nuts for a while. You will have to replace the studs and possibly get a new wheel.
2:38 One rotor is ventilated (1st one shown) and the other is not. Ventilated rotors have better cooling and are used on the front wheels. By using two different sizes you'll mess up your braking.
2:48 A bulletproof Toyota 4Runner. I thought it was cool enough to show you guys. Also, the driver's side window looks to be cracked.
    3:02 Outro. Thanks for watching!

I've been wondering what causes this "jello" stuff. Far from the first time it has shown up here. Must be a bunch of some sort of additive. But I wonder what one.
As a joke I ran my knocking push mower for the summer on pure "motor honey" and it didn't do anything, it eventually thinned like regular oil.
Later on I pumped a tube of grease in it and that was what I ran it on for a few more years till the chassis cracked and I scrapped it. If anyone pulled the dipstick it looked like poo was on it with all the grease!

So if there's a way to make my car work without spending money I'm gonna do it. But I also understand how cars work and I know what is and isn't safe. Okay, I have to confess to an emergency "fix" on a tire, when I was a kid. I had decent tires on my VW bug, but hit something on my way into work. I could hear the leak. I grabbed a pencil, rammed it in the hole and snapped it off flush. I made it to work on the tire. I came out, expecting a flat. It was still holding air. I pumped it back up to 32 lbs. And wondered how long the pencil would last. I had a new tire on my spare, but drove that stupid pencil tire for the next month, just to see how long it would last. Never lost any air. I figured that was a pretty good test, and changed it out. But, I always carry a pencil in my cars. Never know, it might get you out of a bad spot. Maybe they should put a mileage rating on pencils.

Someone in higher management, at the commercial vehicle rental company i worked at, decided to replace all the Toyota Hiace vans, that had earned an enviable, proven track record for reliability, and being able to stand up to rigours of being a rental vehicle for years without falling to bits, with Ford Transits. Six months later the transits were gone and the Toyotas were back. Then, a couple of years later, in a stunningly ill thought plan to save some money, they tried it again, this time with LDV vans :-))) LDV are appalling, shoddy, Chinese made versions of a former British product. I was 99.9% everything was good to go but having a master tech double check never hurts. The shop I use is awesome. They found an oil leak and the truck was still under warranty. They checked the torque on the oil pan bolts and when they were in spec they called Ford told them exactly where it was leaking an also emailed pics. I’ve had issues with ford on warranty work but not a single issue this time. The oddest thing I ever found inside an engine - was nuts and berries in the cylinders.
We had a number of company trucks and my boss thought he'd buy this old junker and fix it up to add another one. It had been sitting a while - and he asked me to rebuild the engine. So - I took it apart and found nuts and berries inside some of the cylinders.
Some small animal must have crawled up the tail pipe and through the exhaust manifold into the cylinders where the valves were open to store his supplies. I'll bet he was pissed when we towed it away ...
That truck - was a mistake. Once my boss saw how bad the engine was - he told me to forget it.

@@Mark-jc1qj No. I'm afraid that since I was not the one with the truck when it was towed over - I had no knowledge of where it came from - and it did not even occur to me to do so.
Besides which, I was much to involved with trying to deal with an engine where the rings were rusted to the pistons and I broke the tip off my Buck Knife trying to pry them apart. Like I said - once my boss saw that engine he told me to forget it. It's possible he salvaged some parts off the thing but ... I don't think so. I think it just got sold for scrap.
The moral of this story being - no matter how good a mechanic you might think you are - don't fool with a junker - unless it's like a labor of love for a particular type of machine. Commercially - it's just not worth the trouble. You'll spend more time on the thing than it's worth.
My boss had not paid much for it. So I don't know if he got his money back from selling it to a Scrap Yard.

I would show up in the morning 7:00am and leave at 9:00pm. I loved those self paced courses! Now with TH-cam it pretty easy to get instructionals on any repair. I made a mistake with a wheel a few years ago. Didn't tighten the nuts and I lost 3 nuts and broke 1 of the bolts. Thankfully I didn't end up crashing but did replace the bolt and missing nuts myself. Didn't have issues since then because I made sure all of the nuts were tight.

0:35 I watch Cop Shows from the UK, and tires like this (if caught) would get their vehicle towed. Vehicle Inspections (MOT) are strict!
Also, vehicles must be Licensed & Insured in the US, but anyone can drive it. In the UK, every single person that drives the vehicle MUST be Insured to that vehicle, or (if caught) you get a ticket and the vehicle gets towed. Clone Plates (Copy License Plates) are a big problem in the UK, but they have Automatic Number Plate Readers that alert them.

It's a £2.500 fine per tyre here in the UK for tyres that are below the legal minimum (1.6mm 0.063 inches). It's also an offence to drive a vehicle you know is unroadworthy, so being told your tyres are bald means you can't legally drive it.

The insurance here works like this.
I buy a car and insure it myself but I put the name of my wife down on the form as a named driver. She is then insured to drive it too but it does obviously cost more for an added person.

Stuff of nightmares like this is why I'd stomach a mandatory MOT even twice a year. Less chance of some hero on DIY (no)brake job, bald tires, or wheels holding on by hopes and dreams wiping out into me.
Or generally to save the idiots themselves from driving rotted-out deathtraps.

My very first car was a 1984 Chevy S-10 bought in 1988. The original owner got the truck new and never changed the oil. It finally threw a rod and I got it due to a family tradition of buying a car in need of an overhaul then having the kid rebuild the engine.
The truck still had oil but when I pulled the oil pan off the sludge was so thick it had blocked up the pick-up for the oil pump. The oil wasn't as bad as this one, but it was close.
I had that little truck for the next 10 years, butting another 100000+ miles on it. The engine was still rock solid. Everything around the engine was wore out, but that engine was solid.
