Hey guys! Hope this video was helpful! A video about hibernation and how to help your hedgehog if they do attempt to hibernate will hopefully be out soon to go along with this one! There isn't a lot going on in this video visually, it is more informational, so feel free to put me on in the background like a podcast, haha! Thanks for watching! :D
PugPibbleHedgie thank you so much❤ your videos have helped me so much. I'm getting my hedgehog in 9 days and I'm so excited to welcome her into my family
PugPibbleHedgie how far away does the heat lamp have to be from the hedgehog and does the cage need to have a roof? Lastly how do you keep them from chewing the wires cause I'm scared my hedgie'll try to eat them
My mum bought a hedgehog a couple of years ago, at first she was really good at taking care of it but when she got her ferrets it's almost as if she forgot about the hedgehog. The hedgehog recently started hibernating due to my mum not having proper heating equipment and thanks to you I was able to safely stop the hedgehog from hibernating. I'm now saving up money to buy the right cage, bedding and heat equipment and your videos have been so helpful throughout the process, thank you so much. 🙏❤🦔
For all the people who are wondering how big the cage is in the description she linked the cage in it scroll the the images btw. Its 66 inches tall but I think you can remove the stand :D
Hi your videos have helped me and my daughter understand alot more about hedgehog and the way we should be caring for them also we just brought one for my daughter yesterday and found your videos on TH-cam which help us out a whole lot very helpful 😊 we will be Continuing to watch your other videos Thanks again
I'm excited! I just found you while was searching for hedghog cages and needs. I have been trying to find a hedgie and I am having a hard time! Anyway, I trust the right one will come along for me. BUT....I found YOU.... And that is AWESOME! Thank you for your channel!
Thanks so much for this! Your channel is a wealth of info & has helped with our hedgehog! This past winter was so tricky trying to keep her warm! Next year we will be ready because of your video! Thanks again! xoxo
This is very helpful thank you. I’m getting a hedgehog tomorrow and already have the cage. I’m gonna get the heat stuff when I go to the store to buy my hedgehog. I’ve been wanting one for five years now and finally getting one. Thanks to my mom and dad cause it was one of my Christmas gifts I’m so thankful. 🦔🥺😍🥰❤️
Kristy Rowland The accounts I researched on didn’t give me enough information and I didn’t know, so I’m currently attempting to fix my care. That could’ve been the case
Just want to say thanks for this video, even three years later. I've been looking into getting some CHE's for my Bearded Dragons and Hedgehogs, but always thought they had to be used with those Wire lamps. So I ALMOST bought some Exo Terra CHE/Wire Lamps, but I learned that's not the case and ordered 4 Fluker's Clamp Lamps and 4 Fluker's CHE instead so now the heat should go where I want it go. Surprisingly I also saved money.. lol
I got my hedgehog last week, she's really cute and she loves baths, she usually hisses but I know that's normal. she barely ever spikes though, she lets us pet her and hold her during and after bathing and she gets really curious. I love your videos and they help me give her good care, I hope you do another live video Q&A in the future it was really helpful and your piggies are so cute.
Tomorrow we are visiting an exotic animal place not sure what its called but we live in virginia and we found one thats 15 minutes away thanks to you we might get a hedgehog tomorrow so thanks sooo much Tori!
How do you set up the thermostat? I’m just wondering how it connects to the heat emitter to get it to turn on or off. Is it difficult for a total newbie?
Thank you so much for this video. I’m in the presses of getting a hedgehog. I have reptiles so the heating does not worry me every much since I have a lot of experience with it. I’m going to be getting the same cage you have because I like how sturdy the cage is I have seen good reviews and I also have a kitten that I want to make sure had not way to get into the cage. Other wise I would of gone with a bin cage. Thank you for the video I have been watching a lot of you’re videos.
Are heat lamps pretty safe? :3 I want a hedgehog 🦔 but if my parents don’t agree to heat lamps then I don’t want to risk them going into hibernation without one
So I’m getting my hedgehog heat stuff all in the mail but curious how to set it all up. Do you just plug the heat lamp into the thermostat? Then the thermostat will regulate the cage to keep it at the perfect temp to what you set it at?
I have one question. If I have a heavy duty cage and my house stays at 70 degrees how much should I put the heat lamp at because it might heat the hole cage up.
I love your videos, they've given me so much information! One thing i wanted to know was if i could use two 8.5 in heating lamps for a c&c cage since our ac turns on an off throughout the day.
Hi tori how are ya? I was hopeing u could help me settle something between me and my dad regarding hedgehog heating. We currently have 2 hedgehogs both with stable heat set ups and actually last week I got the double critter nation and mine is set up almost exactly like urs. I trust ur information and opinions so much when it comes to my babes. We r looking in to getting back ups for everything just incase as ohio has seen a lot of snow and cold lately we just wanna be safe. My heat bulbs are currently white ceramic heat emitter bulbs one is 100w and one is 150w. My dad is convinced that he can get the black colored bulbs that are called ceramic heat lamp infrared light bulb for reptiles. My understanding is infrared bulbs are not good for hedgehogs. He says they are the same just different color but with the word infrared on it I don't feel comfortable. Are those bulbs ok or should we just stick with the white bulbs?
I’m sure you could, but it would have to be set higher because the hedgehog would be farther away from the heater. They also might not be able to use the shelf, depending on this.
could I make a DIY cage thing out of a bin? or is that not good. Because I will put good bedding in it and I will also give him/her a natural feeling cage with rocks and natural hidey holes as well as having mealworms in there for it to dig for, and I will add a heating lamp and a wheel not to mention letting it out every day to run around and play. And I will have other food in there as well like a food bowl unless that's not recommended. Also should I put sand or soil as the bedding or store-bought bedding? AND i will put some small toys in there as well as one big one like a wooden ball for it to play with
I just just found your account recently and I was wondering how do you wash your wheels? I have a California bucket wheel and it smells I cleaning it weekly with soap and water but the smell won’t go away. (It does sit above a litter box if that changes anything.
I have a young hedgehog with a URI. He's only 144 grams. He's also quilling. He attempted hibernation at 23.8 degrees Celsius (roughly 75 Fahrenheit). He was laying on the floor of his cage and his body felt cold. It was so scary. I've bumped the temp up to 80 for the past week and he's been doing better.
@@ToriLynnPPH He's 144 grams (last week's weigh-in). If the pet store I got him from is telling the truth, he's 2 months old. I've had him for 1 month. Personally, I think he's a bit older (3-4 months?) as he's starting to lose his baby quills. Keep in mind I live in Japan so idk how they do things here, but the pet stores all seem kind of shady. I've been feeding him a/d wet dog food along with dry kibble, and a few days ago I finally got carnivore care in the mail (I had to have it imported). I really want to get his weight up. Keeping the cage warmer has definitely helped his appetite!
He’s definitely severely underweight which is likely what’s causing him issues retaining heat. I’d keep his heat bumped up indefinitely at this point - at the very least until he’s at a healthier size. Sounds like you’re doing everything right! ❤️
@@ToriLynnPPH Thank you! I'm definitely trying my best. He likes to eat at 9 pm and again at 5 am so I get up to feed him. He is very picky and won't eat mealworms (live or canned) otherwise I'd give him those too. 😥 I have another hedgie boy who is 1 year old, 330 grams and he'll eat anything haha.
Do you try to have a gradient in the cage? I just set up my cage and heat lamp (getting the hedgie in January) and I've been playing around and it seems that it will be warm (like 77-80) on the side with the lamp and tends to be like 70-72 on the other side. I was thinking about putting the bed underneath where the lamp is and then the wheel on the cooler side of the cage. Is this okay? I also have a space heater so I could just supplement my room but would prefer for it to not be that warm all the time. Any advice would be appreciated!!
I just got a ceramic heat lamp for my hedgehog. I'm wondering, can I keep the lamp on the whole night? Or will the temperature keep on climbing until my hedgehog gets too hot?
nice video. It is sad that in my country it is illegal to keep one, hedghog is my favorite animal (that is in the mammal class) besides reptiles. anyway thanks for sharing. Wish to get one, one day when the laws against keeping hedgehogs are abolished.
hi! love your videos! how should I determine which wattage to buy when getting a heat lamp? I'm getting a hedgie soon and I've bought a 4ft viv for my new baby to live in and am very confused about heating.💗🦔
+Tori Lynn Hey, I just got a hedgehog and your videos have been so helpful and informative. You're awesome and I hope you keep making videos! I have a question about my heating setup that I was hoping you could help me with. I used your recommendations for the majority of the setup (cage, Zilla lamp, Zoo Med thermometer, Inkbird thermostat) but I have a different bulb. I got a ceramic heat emitter that emits only heat, no light, but it's 75 watt. I figured that would be fine because the thermostat is what really controls the cage temperature. Based on your recommendation, I wanted the cage temperature range to be between 77-80 degrees, so I set the setting value at 78, the heating differential at 1 degree, and the cooling differential at 2 degrees. I set it so the alarm would go off if it got down to 75 or up to 82. This morning, the thermostat is reading 73.6 degrees and I'm not sure if there's something I'm doing wrong, but I don't want it to get too cold for my hedgehog. Is there a reason you chose a 150 watt bulb? I'm wondering if maybe 75 watt bulb can only heat the cage to a certain extent and if I need a higher wattage bulb to keep my cage the temperature I want. Thanks for any help you can give!
I go with the 150 watt because it’s a stronger bulb and gives off more heat. The lower watt bulbs only get so hot so they can be difficult to get hedgehogs close to 80°. :)
How do you know how to change :3 the bulb if it doesn’t have the light 💡:3 does it tell you somehow or it’s only if you notice the temperature isn’t so warm? Thanks I love your videos :)
Thank you so much for all your dependable videos. How is the heat going to work with an open-wire cage that I bought him? Does he need a cage with some more-solid sides like the C & C cages coroplast? Otherwise it seems like the room will be heated through the open bars rather than his cage itself! Suggestions? 😊👍💕
Hey! I love your videos, I just got a F hedgehog who is 2 months old about 3-4 days ago, I named her Bella. I've been looking to get her a heating lamp and so forth for her rather large cage. I have the Living World, Deluxe Habitat. I just ordered everything on your list (besides the cage!) and will try to set it all up the same way. My biggest fear is that she will get too hot in her cage and get hurt :( But I will check back and comment once it's all in and set up in a few days, thanks!
Hi, looking to get the same products as listed, however I cannot figure out if the dome/lamp has a clamp provided with it? I can't seem to find clamps on their own.
hello! I'm adopting a hedgehog in a day now and my only concern about the heat lamps..are they fire hazards?? do you ever feel they could cause a fire? that's my biggest concern
Hey tori! I just wrote you on IG before I saw that you prefer questions here! I got the thermostat that you recommend but I’m having some issues with it and knowing if I have it set up right. Thank you!!
I got the one that you linked in this video :) I think I have it figured out, it wasn’t going into the “heating” mode and then I realized I needed to adjust some of the settings! Thank you!!!
I heard you say something about them soaking in vinegar and water, do you have a video going into detail about that? :) I'm getting a hedgie soon and want to bathe him with the right stuff that's safe for him
HI there, thanks for all your videos! we just got a hedgehog and know nothing about them. Our house stays at 72° year around (heat and A/C). Do you think we need to get the heat lamp?
Definitely :) 72*F is the absolute lowest temperature a hedgehog should be at but 75* is usually the safest, so you'll need the ability to control the temperature. You could also use a space heater but I find they have a much larger impact on energy bills.
Hi Tori, This is awesome! Quick question if you don’t mind. For the ceramic heating, I’m looking for an appropriate dome reflector 10” on Amazon. I can only find it under Home and garden. Is this ok? 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hi I am new to having a hedgehog. I am trying to buy supplies. As long as the lamp is am emitter, does it matter the kind? Is one for reptiles and chickens ok? I also read to feed them grain free cat food and not to feed meal worms. Any advice would help thank you
Hi, my name is Gianna. I actually only like 2 hours away from you! (🙉) I saw that hedgehogs have to have heat between 72-80. I was going to just put 75. I just put the thermometer in my room and my room is 81.6 degrees! (😣😢) What should I do!? Turn the AC on while the heat lamp is on? Please respond...
kyle haynes I believe she uses WhimSewCool on Etsy. But you can just type in hedgehog snuggle sack on Etsy and a plethora of other kinds come up and you can just shop for a set up once you find a style or pattern you like.
Im getting my hedgehog tomorrow! I was wondering if it matters if the bulb is colored other then white and also if it matters if it's infrared? I only found out today that we are getting one tomorrow and the only one day shipping they have is black and or infrared. If not, i'd be happy to go to a pet store.
What should I use for lighting? Do I have to keep my light for my room on or would a regular lamp work? Ive heard from multiple websites and videos that they need light during daylight, but nothing says what kind of light to use.
how do i travel with my hedgehog like some of my distant family lives in another state and we visit for a couple days every couple months could i bring my hedghog and if i cant how would that work without bonding with my hedgehog for days
Do you think it would be possible to make a bonding bag/snuggle pouch bag with pockets on the outside for hand warmers? Would that be safe for the hedgie?
It's certainly possible! I have a hut like that that has a slot in the bottom for a Snuggle Safe disc! As long as the pouch for the handwarmer is secure, it'd be safe! It just won't replace in cage heating :)
Of course not! It's just that my baby might be delivered when it's kind of cold outside and the house itself is about 72F, so I was thinking of popping him into a bonding bag with two hand warmers in the outside pockets to keep him nice and warm in transit and such. I've got the heating set up for the actual cage already purchased! But speaking of: Is it okay to have him out in a house that runs about 72F so long as I'm handling him?
I hope I can get a response from you soon but what are the dimensions on the grid panel you used in the top loft of the CN that you have your CHE sitting on? I have a FN on the way but I'm relatively sure the lofts are similar? Thank you!
PugPibbleHedgie Thank you so much for your reply! I ordered a 14x14 grid and then cancelled my order because it seems like the wire is across the loft in a FN? Can you verify this? I seen a video on TH-cam that is quite blurry but not too blurry to see that there is indeed a grid across the loft. Have you ever seen the loft without the pan on top of it. You would be surprised out how hard that is to find a picture of one without the pan?
I have the Critter Nation so I’m really not sure how big the hole on the Ferret Nations loft is under the pan, or even what it looks like. I believe they’re very similar though! Worst case if your loft has holes too big for the lamp like mine does, you can just pick up a cooling rack or hardware mesh from the store. It’s a pretty easy modification.
Hi I’m am very new about hedgehogs and I’m getting one soon and I have no idea what cage to get,and a heater, I love hedgehogs and really need some tips about safety, and does a hedgehog need a heater all in it’s life in its cage.
weirdo John you can put a tube to get up there or a ramp with sides (hedgehogs WILL fall/roll off it if you don’t put sides on it) they have very poor eyesight and like hiding so he probably won’t use the loft
Hi I think Iam going to get the one that you listed down here but do you know if you can do a video on how to use that one or write it in the comments? Thank you!
If they’re acting normally, it’s likely a good temp for them. When it is too cold they attempt to hibernate, when it is too hot they become lethargic and will sweat or splat.
Do you have any problems with your hedgehogs trying to climb up the side of the walls? I want to make a cage but Im scared with the sides he will try to climb and then fall.
Did you use it up the whole way? Or is there a good height to stop at? Im gonna make a c&c cage but I dont wanna cover the entire side of the wall with coroplast.
Does anyone have the link for the lamp? I guess i’m a bit late to the video lol. Lamp link doesnt work. I just “inherited” my lil sisters hog cos she is off to college. Trying my hardest to become his bestie and take care of him.
You could attach a wire cube or some sort of wire shelf to the actually top of the cage to set the lamp on. Hardware cloth for fencing is pretty sturdy and you could just zip tie it from side to side.
I just set up my heat set up, but I don't know if it is working cause the temperature on my thermometer is 72 and the temperature I have it set to the thermostat is 75 and the thermostat's temperature is saying 74. What should I do?
Hey guys! Hope this video was helpful! A video about hibernation and how to help your hedgehog if they do attempt to hibernate will hopefully be out soon to go along with this one!

The thermostat u listed in the description it turns the heating lamp off if it gets too hot and turns it back down when it dips below the set degrees?
How do you know how to change :3 the bulb if it doesn’t have the light 💡:3 does it tell you somehow or it’s only if you notice the temperature isn’t so warm?
Thanks I love your videos :)
Thank you so much for all your dependable videos. How is the heat going to work with an open-wire cage that I bought him? Does he need a cage with some more-solid sides like the C & C cages coroplast? Otherwise it seems like the room will be heated through the open bars rather than his cage itself! Suggestions? 😊👍💕
Is it ok to sit it on top of the cage without it melting through?
Just got mine today!! But can you turn the heat lamp off at night??
Awesome Video!! Helped so much!!
My biggest fear is that she will get too hot in her cage and get hurt :(
But I will check back and comment once it's all in and set up in a few days, thanks!
+Tyler Davidson The thermostat is what prevents that :) As long as you have a thermostat, you should be golden!
Ima get a space heater cuz imma get my hedgehog in winter so it’s going to be cold
Hi, looking to get the same products as listed, however I cannot figure out if the dome/lamp has a clamp provided with it? I can't seem to find clamps on their own.
I LOVE HEDCHG
Hey, so I live In Arizona and we keep our house at about 75-78 would a heat lamp be necessary? I’m getting a hedgehog in a few days
Do you have any recommendations on how to set it up if you’re planning on using a large plastic bin instead of a cage? :)
Would this heating option be ok with a extra large living world habitat?
where did you get your lamp at pet smart cause im getting a hedghog btw thx for helping me and i love theese vids:)
Do you ever turn your CHE lamp switch to the „off“ position to just give it a rest break or is that not needed because of having the thermostat?
I see you don't use pine bedding shavings and you use fleece blankets instead. Can I use the fleece instead of buying pine bedding shavings?
Yes you can its very cost efficient too and are usually $40 considering the sizr of ypur cage but last a very long time :)
hello! I'm adopting a hedgehog in a day now and my only concern about the heat lamps..are they fire hazards?? do you ever feel they could cause a fire? that's my biggest concern
Brooke Emery Get a heat pad
if your bedroom is comfortable enough for you to not wear a sweater, it's good for your hedgehog. you Do not need heat lamps!!!!
Arielle Sloane do NOT get a heat pad it can severely injure the hedgehog
allison w can you explain?
TryhardHD They can get severe burns and will need veterinary care which can be very expensive.
Hey tori! I just wrote you on IG before I saw that you prefer questions here! I got the thermostat that you recommend but I’m having some issues with it and knowing if I have it set up right. Thank you!!
Hey! :) which thermostat did you end up getting, the Zilla or the Inkbird? (:
I got the one that you linked in this video :) I think I have it figured out, it wasn’t going into the “heating” mode and then I realized I needed to adjust some of the settings! Thank you!!!
I heard you say something about them soaking in vinegar and water, do you have a video going into detail about that? :) I'm getting a hedgie soon and want to bathe him with the right stuff that's safe for him
Hi, can I use digital thermometer for aquarium? I can't find any thermometer for terrarium.
Do you keep the temperature the same from day to night, I have a ceramic so can I just set the thermostat to 1 temperature and leave it? Thanks 😊
Is this ok? 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
It should be fine, but make sure it can handle the wattage off bulb you’re buying!(:
PugPibbleHedgie Thank you so much! :) For the ceramic heat emitter, is 100w acceptable, or should it be 150w? Thank you so much 😊
I’d do 150watt personally! You can always turn a higher bulb down, you can’t make a lower bulb hotter than it’s capable (:
I noticed that the Amazon link for the reflector dome is for an 8.5 inch one. Does that brand make a 10 inch one like you suggested?
Not sure! You’d have to search around (:
As for the fleece, is that a pad at the bottom or is it just wrapped around the base of the cage?
Where is that strawberry fleece igloo from, its really cute??
Do you have a link for your mats? Or do you make them yourself? Could you make a vid about it?
How long can it be out of the normal temperature because I am wondering how long I can take them out
Hello, I’m wondering where you got the bed that Draco and Blais sleep in. Thank you
kyle haynes I believe she uses WhimSewCool on Etsy. But you can just type in hedgehog snuggle sack on Etsy and a plethora of other kinds come up and you can just shop for a set up once you find a style or pattern you like.
Hi 😊 love it! My question is Can I use a heating pad? Thanks
i’ve heard many times that heating pads can injure the hedgehog, so probably stay clear of them
If I don't have a space heater will 150 keep them warm or will I have to use. 200 watt
I have never had any heater for my hedgie. I keep the area almost a constant 75F, and the hedge has been fine for the past months.
They come in black and white :) And they do tend to say infrared! Just be sure that the bulb is a ceramic bulb that doesn’t give off light.
Hi I’m getting a hedgehog soon and I want to know would my ac work? We always keep it no higher than 75 and no lower than 73
What should I use for lighting? Do I have to keep my light for my room on or would a regular lamp work? Ive heard from multiple websites and videos that they need light during daylight, but nothing says what kind of light to use.
A room light or desk lamp or basically any light source will work. I keep the lamps in my pet room on timers and they’re just regular room lamps.
Tori Lynn thank you!
how do i travel with my hedgehog like some of my distant family lives in another state and we visit for a couple days every couple months could i bring my hedghog and if i cant how would that work without bonding with my hedgehog for days
Where do you get you cage fleece liners at?
I hope I can get a response from you soon but what are the dimensions on the grid panel you used in the top loft of the CN that you have your CHE sitting on? I have a FN on the way but I'm relatively sure the lofts are similar? Thank you!
It’s just a 14”x14” storage cube! You could use anything heat proof really. I’ve seen people use cookie cooling racks even.
PugPibbleHedgie Can you please answer my question?
I have the Critter Nation so I’m really not sure how big the hole on the Ferret Nations loft is under the pan, or even what it looks like. I believe they’re very similar though! Worst case if your loft has holes too big for the lamp like mine does, you can just pick up a cooling rack or hardware mesh from the store. It’s a pretty easy modification.
How long can the lamps last and when do you change the bulb
About 5 years
When I click the link for the thermostat it says something went wrong. Which one should I get?
Ashlee Sauer me too
Hi I’m am very new about hedgehogs and I’m getting one soon and I have no idea what cage to get,and a heater, I love hedgehogs and really need some tips about safety, and does a hedgehog need a heater all in it’s life in its cage.
How long can you leave them without the heat lamp being on?
I have a question. Could I use the loft for my hedgehog or are hedgehog enable to climb.
weirdo John you can put a tube to get up there or a ramp with sides (hedgehogs WILL fall/roll off it if you don’t put sides on it) they have very poor eyesight and like hiding so he probably won’t use the loft
PugPibbleHedgie where did you get the liners to fit the cage you have
Is the lamp a necessary?? Isn't the CHE bulb enough, or do you need the lamp
+CrazyPotato They're both necessary. The bulb screws into the lamp.
PugPibbleHedgie ah okay
CaitlinBlahs you can you just a lamp or Christmas lights are fine
Where did you find the stuff to hold up the light and cords up?
The thermostat you linked was taken down off of everything would you recommend the other one as a second option
They also have that same thermostat still listed to purchase but 1000watt would that work instead of 500?
This is the one I’m using currently!
www.amazon.com/dp/B011296704/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_M36dBbCDSSYPT
PugPibbleHedgie thank you so much!
Hi I think Iam going to get the one that you listed down here but do you know if you can do a video on how to use that one or write it in the comments? Thank you!
@@ToriLynnPPH that one has been taken down too
Do they not ever chew on the wires hanging a bit lower?
How do you know what temperature a hedgehog likes the most? I have mine at about 75 degrees right now
If they’re acting normally, it’s likely a good temp for them. When it is too cold they attempt to hibernate, when it is too hot they become lethargic and will sweat or splat.
Is the fluker's clamp lamp 10in. a good one?
I'm thinking about using this exact set-up. But does the heat lamp heat your room and make it uncomfortable?
No, the heat lamp doesn't effect the temperature in the room at all :) Just the area directly under it, so the cage.
Do you have any problems with your hedgehogs trying to climb up the side of the walls? I want to make a cage but Im scared with the sides he will try to climb and then fall.
My boys are old now and don’t bother to climb but when they were younger I used coroplast to cover the bars of the cage :)
I suppose the ceramic heat emitter is also usavle for sick birds?
Do u know how to install that light without the loft piece because I have the exact same thing
For the bulb is it the 150 watts one.
hi was was wondering how you setup on for a bin cage
Would it be okay to use a 5 1/2 inch dome for my hedgie??
I keep the house about 78°F do i still need one of these lamps? I have been thinking about getting one of these cages for her. Just want to make sure
