That's a security concern I never really thought about! I guess the only thing that helps is that it's not obvious you have to flip down the front of the lock
Thanks for the great rundown. We're in the home-buying process and I'm super excited to migrate my apartment Home Assistant over to a full house. I've been going down a rabbit hole looking at different smart lock options. Contemplating this U-Bolt Pro for one of my back doors. I'd love to see a review of the Schalge Encode Plus locks - specifically how they work (or don't) with Home Assistant. I'd love to find a lock that utilizes Apple's Home Key but also works seamlessly with Home Assistant.
Sounds exciting! Yeah, I know that the Encode locks are great, but have never tried them. Maybe matter will solve any of these issues with compatibility? I think it's a ways down the road yet
Thanks for the review. For this smart lock (and other Z-wave enable ones), what happens when there is a power outage? The Z-wave hub will be out. But would I still be able to unlock using keypad/fingerprint/bluetooth? Or I have to keep a spare physical key somewhere in this situation?
I can not get it to connect to z-wave unless it connects to s0 which is very slow. I love everything about it but pay extra for not very good z-wave bites.
Hmmm, mine connected with S2 from all the way in my basement. You have to wait a little bit for it to connect. Do you have any metal structures that could be interfering?
Did you have any issues with the open/close sensor (magnet) falling off, or with the lock not registering that it's passed the magnet and not changing states from locked/unlocked? One of my friends has a few of this lock (all outside doors on his house) and those two things drive him nuts. The doors will frequently be closed and register as being open, so they won't lock automatically (or won't unlock automatically when using geofencing and approaching the door). He has extra contact sensors on the doors and has done some extra automation to work around this so he can get rid of the magnets that fall off anyway. I'm curious what your experience has been with this? Other than that, he really likes everything else about the locks, for what it's worth, and he's pointed out some of his favorite features that you also covered.
No, I've had no issues so far with either the pro or the non-pro. I plan to turn off the auto-locking, since it's kind of annoying. I'll let Home Assistant handle that
When checking the lock action. Check it in the strikeplate for rubbing and fit. If it rubs, the motor will have to work harder and run the batteries down faster. How does it compare against your prior top pick, and what did you select for the front door? I'm still looking for the aged bronze version. So Schlage Connect is still the top pick. $$$$ and always out of stock.
Good point! I should have mentioned that. I still prefer Yale, Schlage, and Kwikset because of the Alarm Level and Alarm Type info in HA, but setting those features aside, it would go Yale, Schlage, Ultraloq Pro
@Make It Work Thanks, Erin. It will be interesting to see if any of them go the Thread/Matter route. Yale already has a thread module for their high-end series. I'm waiting to see what Schage does, as all by door hardware is Schlage. But then again, Matter has not gotten a good foundation yet.
Not sure having the keyway is a total win, it has an anti-bump feature, but nothing special for making picking more difficult. th-cam.com/video/Os1oyIfhM-o/w-d-xo.html
Clear and to the point! Thank you
Really enjoyed the vid, definitely will subscribe 😁😁😁
Thanks for the great review. Do you see any concerns with the exposed wires when you open up the front for physical key?

Pretty much all smart locks store the user codes in the lock, so as long as the battery is charged, you should be good.
Hey can you do one for eufy lock integration into home assistant please
sorry, I already returned it due to the cloud reliance. You can follow this documentation: github.com/fuatakgun/eufy_security
Hi, thanks for the great video!
Does it have an interface to home assistant or smartthings which have z-wave to perform automations on it??
Thanks! Yeah, it works with HA via Z-Wave. I'm guessing it works with Samsung SmartThings as well
I can not get it to connect to z-wave unless it connects to s0 which is very slow. I love everything about it but pay extra for not very good z-wave bites.

True, but it's a win over all of the other keyed locks I've looked at, because it's not obvious it's even there!
@@MakeItWorkTechI agree and regardless it’s not like lock pickers aren’t familiar with these locks.
(Btw nice vids!!!!!)
@@BuffaloSpiritGuide agree, and thanks!
The fingerprint reader was unreliable. Buttons do not illuminate. I bought the wifi version, which caused massive battery drain.
Yeah, I'd stay away from WiFi. Fingerprint reader still going strong for me, and the buttons still illuminate. Maybe yours is defective?
Hmmm shit, I just bought the wifi version
