Since I decluttered to a capsule wardrobe, it is so easy to get dressed. The pieces all work together giving me a large number of different outfits. Love it.
Hi Ali! I love decluttering as well! But if it sparks joy, keep it! Don’t deprive yourself. Minimalism means something different to everyone! I like how you pushed yourself to get rid of more because you knew you could do it and challenge yourself! Keep up the good work
Hi Kiana! Yes, I love that motto too! I find myself keeping items even if they don’t spark joy so doing a challenge like this really helps me get rid of what I truly don’t love or need. I love your advice though I will definitely use that moving forward 🙂 thank you so much for sharing! 🤍🤍
You’re so right! Once it’s gone I don’t even remember it. I’m so glad to donate items to people who are in need and to help others out it’s the best feeling 🤍
Minimalism is a long journey. I started back in 2019. I was the smallest kid so I got all my siblings, parents, grandparents and cousins handmedowns. My first declutter I had 734 items. I only were hoodies, sweats and my work uniform so I was pretty overwhelmed. I declutter once a season and for this fall I only have 64 items. Now I have MUCH too little and do not like the clothes I have. It’ll be slow and intentional from now on because I swore to only sew (except what I can’t make like sweaters etc) my clothing. Plus I don’t like any clothes on the market. I wish you well :)
Yes, I am coming to find that it will take a long time and I believe will be a journey I’m on for the rest of my life. I was the youngest as well and received many hand me downs too! That’s a great route to take once I get my closet down to only items I really love I will be doing the same. I will only buy intentionally and take my time to build up to a timeless closet I love. I wish I could sew that’s amazing you can sew clothes!! Thank you for watching and sharing your story I wish you well too 🙂🫶🏼
I just found your channel and watch your other declutter videos today - so excited you're doing another deep declutter! I'm going to go through my closet again while watching! So inspiring. Keep it going! It's like an onion. I've been decluttering since 2017, and it's getting better and better. Keep it up!
Thank you so much for watching! Amazing, good luck decluttering!! Haha yes such a great analogy it is like an onion I love that 😂 Wow that’s many years of decluttering that’s great! ☺️
Hi Ali, I just watched both your videos on decluttering clothes and think that you have done an amazing job. Clothing has been one of my biggest hurdles on my decluttering journey and I have done countless purges. These days I try not to bring in any new items, and if I do they are well thought out and replace at least one or more items. Currently, I am on the lookout for a grey cardigan which will replace 2 really old and shabby cardigans. I find I want to hold on to items so that I have choices and variety, but that makes it harder to find the things I love to wear. I have found Kim Bedene's videos really helpful. In one of them she outlines how you can work out how often you wear a particular category of item and therefor how many items you need in each category. Other videos help you to identify your preferences in style, colour, fabric etc.
Thank you so much!! I couldn't agree more, it has taken me ages as well. I try to do the same as you when bringing in new items. I will have to check out her videos, I love getting inspiration from others. Thanks for sharing those suggestions!! :)
It really helps if everything can mix and match. My clothes are black, white, gray and accent color is a wine plum color. I realized I just didn't like wearing patterns or bright colors.
Good afternoon Ali Marie. What can I say? These videos just keep getting better and better - motivating and inspiring. Superb production values and superlative content. Your cleaning and organizational skills are impeccable. Thanks so much for a tour of your cozy home 😁😁😍😍
I really like how you went back through the clothes you had left multiple times and got rid of way more that way. You should try the 10 item wardrobe for fun and just put your extra clothes in a box temporarily. Who knows, you might want to stick to it forever. Madison Gray has a lovely 10 item wardrobe. Only high quality pieces you love.
Thank you! 🤍 That’s a great idea for the color of hangers and for the direction to hang them. I think I’ll do that this weekend! Thanks for the suggestion 🙂
I chose 3 main colors that can mix and match with 2 neutrals that go with them....based my decluttering on that when I had to get more brutal but now anything I take out goes together and looks put together..I admit it's tough cutting a fave just because it's the wrong color
Really nice you are donating your items. I feel like so many content creators literally just want to flog their poshmark! I know it's not in the "true" spirit of minimalism, but please do keep socks if they are still usable. No one will want used socks, and they just contribute to landfill - especially as you'll probably just need to repurchase some at some point. I stored away 10 perfectly ok pairs last year, and left 10 pairs out to wear through. They've all got holes now so I brought out the stored pairs. Win-win.
It’s the least I could do to help I wanted to give to those who are in need 🤍 That’s great information to know about socks thank you for sharing I will definitely start keeping all my socks from here on out! Thanks so much for that tip! 🙂
That pile was not so bad...I have 205 TOPS, and that's after decluttering a year ago. Yes, I could get rid of more, but instead I just stopped buying. Whenever I'm bored with wearing my favorites I 'shop my closet' like it's a store, and find something no one has seen me in. if you live in a cold weather area, you really need two separate wardrobes for summer vs. winter. I use a set of five boxes that are in the top of my closet for 'off season'.
Wow you’re right you have name beat there! That’s a great idea I love that you can shop your clothes, such a smart thing to do! I know I’m very lucky to have one season for now and it not get very cold here it makes it easier to declutter and get rid of more of my closer. Thank you so much for watching 🙂
You did great! Something you might want to try if you'd like to thin your clothes out some more over time is put your hangers on the rod backward. Then as you wear the clothes, turn the hanger the right way. It's so easy to keep track of what you're wearing or not wearing with this method.
I think you should keep that puffer jacket for use in travel. If you lose it, you won’t care. San Francisco and San Diego were actually cold. So was Boston. 😮 I take well worn sleepers to wear in the hotel, then toss them before checking out. 😊
I find that what helps me let go of things is to ask myself to pick out things that I know I absolutely love and wouldn’t part with first , rather than starting with picking out things I don’t like, because really I like everything I own. I would also say that you probably don’t need 9 sweatshirts since there’s only 7 days in a week, but I mean I get it. And if you live in Florida, the sweaters are cute but you really only need a few especially if you have nicer jackets to cover you, our winter is really not worth all that money spent on winter clothes. Just some food for thought that has helped me in my decluttering :)
I love that idea! Thank you for sharing that I’m definitely going to start using that tactic while decluttering! You’re so right about the sweatshirts I think my next closet declutter I’m definitely going to need to declutter those I know I have too many and surprisingly they’re one of the harder items for me to declutter. You’re so right though the winter here isn’t too bad and I really only need a few sweaters when I visit family in the cold. Those will be at the top of my list for my declutter thanks for helping :)🤍
I'm trying to go towards minimalism too. This was super motivating! I like the idea of counting and having a goal like that. Typical closet declutters aren't as motivating anymore. I need more minimalist content!
I’m so glad it was helpful for you!! Yes, the counting always helps me get rid of items I hold onto but never use or wear! You got it, if there’s any specific type of minimalist videos you want to see let me know 🙂
First of all, you have such a pretty smile :) and also this is such a great idea to try to get your closet down to like a certain number! Definitely going to try it
Great work! Don't make it about a number though. Keep what you actually love and wear, and wear those items until they can no longer be worn. Otherwise, you may end up buying those items again. Its also the most sustainable solution for things you have already purchased. If you don't love items, of course, giving them to someone who needs them is also great.
you don't need to get rid off so much stuff, if you feel comfortable with this quality it's ok. also you can create a little pile with sentimenals like bike shorts from school or smth you think to keep
Another video I watched the clothes she kept she turned the hangers around to see what she wore at the end of the season and if she had not worn them she donated it.
If you love something and wear it often I say keep it! Anything that doesn’t fit, or you don’t love it, or you never wear that’s what I would get rid of it. I hope this helps! But decluttering and minimalism is different for everyone so don’t judge or compare your journey to anyone else just do what’s best for you 🙂
Sorry for this comment but I think you should stop obsessing with the numbers and actually keep what you love but are unsure about, u can always go back to it later
No need to be sorry! I always appreciate any help or advice. I always struggle to get rid of things I don’t use or need so the numbers really help me when decluttering to get rid of things otherwise I would hold onto a lot more items that don’t provide any value to my life 🙂 thanks for watching 🤍
Girl, it doesn't matter if you're 21 or 31, crop tops can be classy and stylish if you know how to dress them appropriately! Don't let that deter you from having one or two.
I’ve always wondered when is the age you just decide to stop wearing crop tops lol does someone come give you a letter telling you it’s your time? 🤔 Obviously not just a funny thought, I wonder when my time will come
Oh it’s just my personal preference with where I am at in life like what type of clothing I like to wear and feel most comfortable in 🙂 I don’t judge what other people decide to wear at any age! I think everyone should wear what makes them feel good and comfortable 🤍
Definitely any age. I'm 30 now and decided to get rid of all my short shorts. It use to be my go to, but then I just stopped feeling comfortable being in them and wanted longer shorts since I'm 30.
I totally understand that, I just felt at this point in my life what I no longer felt comfortable to wear that top and that’s totally fine! It can be different for each person 🙂
Since I decluttered to a capsule wardrobe, it is so easy to get dressed. The pieces all work together giving me a large number of different outfits. Love it.
I couldn't agree more! It is a big game changer and I love the simplicity of getting ready once you get rid of the excess :)
Someone in need is going to love those clothes you decluttered. Well done!
I really hope so! Thank you and I appreciate you watching 🫶🏼🙂

Sometimes it’s hard to let go. But once you do, it’s out of sight out of mind, plus to donate it to people in need is amazing and awesome karma.❤
You’re so right! Once it’s gone I don’t even remember it. I’m so glad to donate items to people who are in need and to help others out it’s the best feeling 🤍
I have been putting off my winter declutter and you just gave me the motivation!!!
I’m so glad I could help!! Good luck decluttering you got this!!

That’s such a good point! Mixing and matching helps expand your wardrobe and the potential outfits you can create.
Yay!!! I’m working towards minimalism with you and will be doing the same thing again!
Aw I love that!! So glad to hear it!! I love motivating others and working towards the same goals together 🤍😊🫶🏼
It's 7:13 in Portugal and I'm about to start my decluttering process. I was looking for inspiration and found it in you. Thanks for that
Good luck! You got this! I’m so glad I could help inspire you. Thank you so much for watching 🤍🙂

@@AliMarie You're quite welcome. Stay in touch. 😊😊
Of course have a great evening!

Great job! Very motivating!! I love to have extra room in my closet!
Thank you!! It’s still a work in progress but decluttering always is! I love the extra room too it’s such a great feeling!
Great video. 💗💗💗 Stick with black hangers. Or white. Donate the rest. Also, hang all of the clothes in the same direction.
Thank you! 🤍 That’s a great idea for the color of hangers and for the direction to hang them. I think I’ll do that this weekend! Thanks for the suggestion 🙂

Great job! I’m working on my dresser and closet Right Now! It’s hard but I know I’m gonna love the result.❤
Yes it’s so hard! It definitely pays off though it’s the best feeling after you declutter 🙂
I LOVE this video!!! it was so satisfying to watch
Aw thank you so much that has made my day!! 🫶🏼☺️

Great job❤️🥰
Thank you so much 🫶🏼☺️
omg are we on the same journey? I’ve been decluttering everything!
Sounds like we are!! I have been too!
You are going to regret dropping all the hangers when you have to pick them up again.
😂
Oh trust me I did took it me a few minutes to collect them all 😂😂
My problem is I love all my clothes it’s hard to pick, what if it’s my last day? It must be the perfect outfit to die in 😅 help

You think 142 is a lot?!? Girl I got 142 t-shirts alone 😭😭
Haha oh no worries everyone has a different journey! I’m sure that’s a lot less than other people 🙂 we all have to start somewhere!
Wow
Thank you for watching ❤️❤️
