The song itself was written as a taunting rebuke to the PMRC - the Parental Music Resource Centre co-founded by Tipper Gore - a committee who you can thank for the introduction of Parental Advisory stickers on albums deemed too sweary, sexy, or druggy for little Timmy’s ears. In a bit of self-fulfilling prophecy, Danzig’s debut would get slapped with a Parental Advisory label - or ‘Tipper sticker’ - two years later, despite the album containing not one single profanity. “I was saying stuff they were offended by - questioning religion and questioning government,” Glen Danzig

OH MY GOD !!! . I can't believe you mentioned him reminding you of Jim Morrison. I've been saying for years he sounds just like him. Although it's not all the time, but quite often. I've always loved this song.
I'm just now realizing that not everyone thinks this. I've always thought he sounded like Jim Morrison and assumed everyone thought that way. LOL
When this was written , it's in response too Tipper Gores PMRC I wouldn't expect anything less from Glen lol

I met Glen backstage at a Sabbath concert, he was such a nice guy happy to hang out with fans rather than hang around the "hangers on". Great song and reaction too! Spot on about the Jim Morrison comparison - both have what I call "brass and leather" voices
Amongst other songs from Evil Elvis and his minions, "Her Black Wings" is like the sequel to this.
First you two are awesome. With PTSD and being severely wounded in combat i am alone and online is all i have you help keep my mind off of wishing i was no longer here. I do have the part where i see both of you happy and it sucks knowing ill never have that again after the wounds i suffered but thank you for keeping real and helping me out unknowingly. Prob my favorite by them is "Her Black Wings" but should check out his solo "Black Aria" album, nothing like what you'd expect considering Danzig but I love it, "The Morrigu" goes right through me.
I graduated in 1995. One of the most popular bands with a lot of my peers, male & female through all my Jr. & High school years.

Good classic alt metal with a foundation in punk. Similar would be Henry Rollins who came out of Black Flag. I wasn't heavy into it and punk then but had friends that were. Now it takes me back to those times and I have appreciation of it. Gets the head thrashing. I just like music of all kinds.
Wasn't sure what Kel's reaction would be. Always thought Danzig was a bit of a guy thing and a bit on the mysogynistic side. But that would cover a lot of rock in general so good point about the Doors.

Haven't read all the comments so maybe somebody's made this comparison … I always thought Danzig sounded a lot like the Cult, yet what I didn't put together was how much that guy sounds like, of all people, Jim Morrison. It's uncanny and great.

Kel, as Rich mentioned, Danzig was the vocalist for the horror-punk band The Misfits from NJ. Now knowing that you like his voice and if you feel daring, then try out anything from their 1982 'Walk Among Us' LP. "All Hell Breaks Loose" is my favorite track from that release.

My friend used to hang out with Jerry Only and Doyle (and their incredible dad -- the STORIES!) during Misfits' rise. Hearing it from him, Glenn Danzig (and especially Glenn's mom who was either a lawyer, or lawyer-savvy) saw an opportunity to sue Jerry Only for rights to the Misfits' name as they were coming up. Apparently, Jerry settled out of court cuz these were hard-working Jersey boys who didn't see it coming, and didn't even realize HOW BIG they had become. My friend said he punched Glenn in the mouth during some altercation during a band practice, which I can completely believe, cuz apparently Glenn was just a narcissistic jerk. Puts some perspective on ol' Glenn Danzig.
@ClickToPreview - I wouldn't be surprised by any accounts of fists having up close and personal meetings with Glenn's mouth. As much as I like the Misfits, Samhain, and Danzig for the music, he has quite a reputation for being an egotistical asshole.

I always got this Danzig song confused with The Cult because of a similar style. Not a bad thing at all, both bands are awesome. "She Sells Sanctuary" is a modern classic.

I always thought "Tired of Being Alive" was Danzigs best solo song.
The guy has a great voice, could write some great songs but by all accounts tries way too hard, successfully, to be a total asshole. Apparently he messed with one of the members of Def Leppard and got his butt handed to him, theres also a great backstage video of the singer for the LA Kings ask if Glen could start his set a little late since there were apparently some technical problems. This guy towers over Danzig and has 150lbs on him and Danzig in typical fashion refuses then ACTUALLY PUSHES the guy, who's twice his size - the guy lays Danzig out cold with 1 punch, it's pretty hilarious.
You know what is even more hilarious? The fat dude that hit him, the singer of Northside Dicks, said himself in an interview afterwards that he leaved the scene right away after flooring Danzig though he didn't want anything more to do with him though he was uncertain "if he could go the distance" with Danzig. Anyway, short time after punching Danzig, he ended up in a hospital in some kind of illness AND his house burnt down, with no insurance.

Rich, if you remember the PMRC back in the 80s, the song was about mothers forbidding their kids to listen to certain songs or artists for being controversial. Which helped launch the stickers on albums.

I remember back in the day when I was listening to this song and my Mom came into my room to ask me to do something or other and she just stood there for a second and said "That guy sounds like an evil Elvis."

I’m not sure when we’re going to get to Bullet for my Valentine. The truth is that I don’t think Rich is ready for it yet.
Bullet for my Valentine was a band that he and Jared used to listen to together and I think the pain of Jared’s passing in December is still too near. He just can’t bring himself to put them on yet.
