  • Want to press the easy button? Avid CNC now has a universal dust shoe available! This dust shoe is specifically engineered for the demands of CNC machining with a chambered design for focused suction and durable aluminum and polymer components. It features magnetic brush ring and dust hose attachments for quick tool changes and work area cleanup. Check it out at: www.avidcnc.com/avid-cnc-univ...
    The open project files and links to the material & hardware needed to make this project are posted here www.thingiverse.com/thing:136...
    Enjoy a clean work area with our customizable dust shoe project. This dust shoe is designed to be a high performing and inexpensive option for CNC routing machines that use routers or CNC spindles - such as our line of ready-to-assemble Benchtop and large-format CNC machines.
    Be sure to also check out our Benchtop Standard Machine -- www.avidcnc.com/benchtop-stand...
    The version shown here is 90mm and suitable for the following routers; Bosch 1617, Dewalt DW618, and Porter Cable 690 or 892.
    The design parameters such as SpindleDiameter and HoseDiameter are easily changed in the Fusion 360 project, or pick from one of our many pre-configured STL files.
    Let us know if you have any questions!

    I just made this, it went pretty well. Here's what I recommend:
    1) Don't use the linked HDPE plastic stock from the source project page. That is standard cutting board stuff and is way too flimsy, especially for the lower ring - it will probably warp on you. Use King StarBoard ST (marine-grade HDPE) - it's UV and weather resistant and much stiffer.
    2) It would be nice to add a couple outer "lips" or tabs on the lower portion to give it some purchase when taking it off. I'm probably going to re-cut my lower portion to do that, or I might just add a couple of thumb screws.
    3) Make sure your inserts are perfectly straight going into the lower ring, otherwise the two might not seat/seal together nicely.
    Pretty fun first project on my new Avid CNC, really could've used a dust shoe though, got chips everywhere! The machine performed flawlessly.

    I'm working on this project, modified the hose diameter and offset, I have run the top mount plate and it rand perfectly with my single flute 1/4" Dimar SCPl46 at the 120 in/min. Now going to run the bottom brush plate with same bit plus the Dimar 1/8" single flute SCPL43.
    Still looking for a source for the 3" strip brush. I see in Fusion 360, the design could have imported the parts from McMaster Carrs drawings. This would have provided everyone with a source and part numbers when making this project. Thanks to everyone at CNC Router Parts for the project, it's really great, and pushes us to lean some Fusion360 for other projects on our list.
    I look forward to more projects in the future.

    Looking forward to running this, but I'm curious why use pocket/clearing cuts for the internal features? I'd think contour cuts would be faster . . but I also don't know what I'm talking about!

    You should sell the parts as a kit with two blocks of hdpe so we could mill and make our own

    I love the design. I have found an issue with the universal Dust Shoe in the fusion360 when you
    change the parameter HoseOffset to 8.82" the insert extrude for the
    middle to mag mounting do not move in line with the changed location.
    Also the two mounting holes near the dust hose and merged together and
    is elliptical. With no holes. I am looking to use this dust shoe on my
    Machmate CNC machine. Also it would be nice to be able to add another
    set or to of mounting holes to do with the longer length. So a parameter
    to say how many mounting holes on the straight edge would be nice. You
    could lock positions of the mounting holes on the curves. I have only
    just started using fusion360 so my skill level at the moment is well
    beyond fixing these issues will you

      Hi Paul - Thanks! I see the same issue, looks like some of the sketch constraints were missing. Try the v1.2 version I uploaded to our project listing, should work better now. -Nathan

    Hi Folks, I can't find M8 threaded inserts. It looks like all I need is a screw for the magnet to attract. Can I use 1/4" threaded inserts? I have a bunch of those.

    I tried downloading the supposed Fusion 360 file, but it had a ".man" extension. I then uploaded that to Fusion however Fusion can not locate a ".man" extension file to open. What's the process in more detail please. How do you get this ".man" extension open in Fusion 360?

  • @Dave-ni4vg
    @Dave-ni4vg 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I made this shoe but the m8. 1.25 bolts that are recommended are not good. As other have said and all the reviews the screws are not attracted by the magnet enough and falls off very easily.
    I went to Home Depot and bought the zinc plated bolts m8 1.25 16mm and they stick to the magnets 3-4 times stronger and now it’s take effort to pull it off.

      +Brian Casey Hi Brian - We have the source files hosted on thingiverse here --> www.thingiverse.com/thing:1363341 We don't (yet) have pre-configured vCarve files for the various router combinations however the native Fusion 360 file (configured with CAM toolpaths) is there along with some STL and DXF files you might find useful.

    new to fusion360. I do I just create gcode for to and bottom separately ?

    • @AvidCNC
      @AvidCNC  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, good question! Yes, the top and bottom are two separate material set ups, so you will have to generate two g-code files for production.

    Any suggestions on how to deal with warping? The finished pieces are so bowed they are impossible to use. They were milled from flattened HDPE stock.

    • @AvidCNC
      @AvidCNC  ปีที่แล้ว

      You could try another piece of HDPE. Most of the time it's flat enough. Another material might work well too. Best bet is to post on our forums. There are a lot of users there that do stuff like this. I bet you could find some help there.
