  • Hi guys. We are Carlos and Lenka and traveling is a big part of our life. India has been our home many times during the last 5 years. Recently, we have decided to stay in India during the quarantine/lockdown and we would like to show you our experience of the quarantine life in Rishikesh.
We are organizing small group trips to India from Chile and this year we came to Rishikesh at the end of our travel itinerary. Once the trip was over and our clients returned home we have stayed in Rishikesh with the idea of practicing yoga. This place is special for us as this is where we met for the first time in 2016.
The Lockdown started on March 22nd in the whole country, and since then it has been extending. In the beginning, the quarantine fulfilled its purpose, but today, and as we have heard it has been due a government mishandle, Covid-19 cases have risen up as well as the casualties.
We are today in version 4.0 of Lockdown. In each prior version, initial restrictions have eased a bit from what it was almost, an absolute lockdown. Today we are allowed to be in the street till 7PM, respecting social distancing and wearing a mask. Stores are open till 4PM, but because there are not many tourists and pilgrims left the sales are minimal. Rishikesh is normally a very touristic place, but today the streets are empty.
Personally, we have used this time for reading, cooking Indian food, practicing Yoga, and in Lenka´s case, all the challenges she has found on the internet. She is by far the most motivated person here where we live. The heat is intense, reaching easily 35 Celcius degrees. The river has helped to deal with this with a bath in the evening.
Commercial flights are officially canceled, but many flights have departed towards Europe, and even one to Chile, but because borders are close in Chile and Slovakia for nos residents, India is our only option to stay together.
Our decision of staying was the right one. To be in nature, in a quiet place, and where we have access to all what we need, has made this unusual process or world quarantine, a time for creativity and to enjoy something that normally we lacked: time.
We will keep sharing videos from Rishikesh and India. If you want a video about something specific, or want to share constructive feedback with us, write to us in the comments area.
