But keep in mind that the coating limits the lifetime of the mouse. At some point that stuff will turn back into oil. First it gets extremely sticky, then it feels like peeling off tape that has been in the sun for a couple months. You'll wash your hands constantly, because using the mouse makes you feel as if you just ate a whole bag of chips.
the Rat pro X has ceramic feet, much less friction than the usual plastic, those are great. and rubber coating gets disgusting real quick, i keep scraping it off the things that have it

Yup. His "natural resting position" is more like "natural resting position if you let your hand rotate to match the hard table surface". Actual natural resting position isn't vertical either, more like 50 or 60 degrees up from flat. I think a 45 degree design would allow best ratio of comfort and control, personally. Higher angles require back pressure from the thumb to prevent it moving when pressing buttons, which becomes unergonomic, especially if you want to also eventually add thumb buttons for more functionality.

Just so you know... The 45 degrees is something I've tested on myself and it's comfortable from about 30 to 45. Any higher and presses seem to create too much movement. Mice are definitely more comfortable when they're larger. This is doubly true if you have big hands. You may find that you get more *precision* out of smaller mice, though. That uncomfortable, slightly scrunched up grip allows you use your fingertips more and your elbow less. Which is good for precision, but worse for the tendons in your wrist.
fun fact that i have huge hands and i find small mouse most comfortable for me cus i am just moving it with 3 fingers xD and back of the mouse is somewhere at my pinky finger end so gives me kinda good balance when i want to be precise at like shooting in game , if mouse hits my palm it kinda feels very bad at least for me thats why i took smaller mouse :D

@@novaenricarter705 u will run into one big problem with vertical mice, when u want to left or right click u have to squeeze inwards with both ur thumb and finger and can cause a different type of strain, it also causes most people to accidently move their cursor every time they go to click inadvertanly moving off what they were trying to click

You don't normally move only your arm but your fingers also contribute to the mouse movement. Since this format kind of locks the mouse body to your wrist I think that a trackball mouse would benefit more this bigger format
Honestly, i like that design. It has a certain organic/scifi vibe to it. Like a lump of meat, slapped on the table, functioning as an Interface. What you would expect from an Alien race where Computers are "grown". I wouldn't cal it body horror but it got a lot of the aesthetics i liked about it.

An idea I had for the scroll wheel is to have the scroll wheel with another bigger wheel in the front. so it would be a when that you scroll that scrolls the scroll wheel (then you would have to invert the main scroll wheel in the software.)
I had the same idea! :) I was concerned that there may be some slippage between the two wheels, which may make it frustrating when you're trying to get that precise, single-click scroll.
Or a three wheel solution to prevent the inversion. And against slippage the wheels could be gears with teeth. The middle wheel would grip onto the "finger wheel" on the inside, that way the touched surface is still nice, but everything is tight.

This will sound as a weird query, but bear with me. I have nerve damage on my right arm, causing my 3 last fingers to "click" erratically. I need a mouse that has a smaller rmb and flat space on the mouse casing past the rmb (all the mice on the market tend to profile the case to fall off right past the button) so I can consciously brace my "outboard" fingers away from the rmb until needed. The mouse I need does not exist. Or it didn't, until I saw yours. I was very excited to see what you'd done. Will the print file become public at some point? You can make your money back pretty easily. My friends and family know I'm pretty cheap because I am just making sure I pay for my printer and filament. I typically price in how many failures I think there could be as well
He has the gas mask for the plastic particulates at 1:25 I assume, and it’s funny because in my Engineering class we’d always be 3D printing and shaving plastic in a small room without any protection. I think there’s a fundamental problem with having the palm down on the desk. *I think the position is like holding a cup.* And your hand has to be semi-relaxed. Kind of like a joystick only you’re sliding it around instead of leaning it using actuators. So almost like you have your fist closed with some on top and you’re sliding around on the side of your palm with the pinky at the bottom. 🤙 pretty much like this emoji only the pinky would be closed.
I think if you painted it as if it were an island and used a mousepad as blue as the sea, it would be perfect. If you look closely at its shape, it looks like a volcanic island. In addition to being a mouse, it would be a decorative piece on your desk.
Probably gonna get some flak for this, but I've always found modern console controllers to be far better in terms of comfort and avoiding carpel tunnel, my hands are basically at a natural resting position in my lap and all I'm really doing is moving my thumbs and a couple of fingers to do everything, as opposed to my whole arm whilst worrying about where my mouse is situated on a desk and having to possibly reset that position, as well as play a game. A good thumbstick with high aiming sensitivity and extra back buttons are all I really need, mouse and keyboard are great, but they were never really designed specifically for gaming. They were simply the most accurate/precise medium for a long time. I think modern gamers have proven that with a tonne of practice, just like a mouse, you can be just as precise with a controller. Afterall, it's about hand-eye co-ordination, not mouse-eye.
for version 2, just realize you can change any shape that you aren"t touching that leaves you a lot of options of things to remove or restyle to your liking
Around 13 yeas ago, when I bought my first 3D printer (RepRap) I was wondering how to scan objects. What I did back then: 1) used playdoh to get either the object or the negative 2) put it in the freezer 3) used dental floss to slice it 4) put it in the scanner 5) "connected the dots" :D
I vaguely remember that hands, in their most natural and (supposedly) must comfortable position, don't sit flat. When you think about it, when your hands are at your side you palms are oriented toward your body. I'm guessing that rather than being flat against the surface of a table you'd be more comfortable angling them at about 45°.
Afai understand how iPhone's lidar works is it relies on axelerometer data as well to understand how phone's position changed in space. So it may be optimized for in-hand scanning, while going nuts on moving objects. You'd probably got something if you moved phone around static table. But I was surprised that set of regular photos worked just as fine.
3D scans tend to use the compass to get more accurate readings which makes rotating the object not work as the phone stays stationary. I had the same problem yesterday as a nearby library just got some 3d printers.
He used Gojo's technique- He took the blue mouse from earlier, smashed it with his experience with the red mouse from earlier, and ended up with the ultimate mouse in the end- Purple
I made the same thing when i didn't have a 3d printer yet. Made a mold with clay and then cast it with epoxi resin. It became heavy, but it is so comfortable! The 3d printed version seems better
If you make a version of this mouse where your hands rests 90 degrees, it will help your wrist health in the future. This is why digital tablets are so good, because your hand is in a more natural position. The reason is because of your forearm bones, when you put them onto a normal mouse, they rotate and cross each other more than normal, but when you hold a pencil or pen, the wrist is at the midway point of rotation thus having the forearm bones in a more natural and relaxed position. I do this this is a great idea, finding a comfortable AND practical design for a mouse that preserves your wrist health while maintaining functionality, a great idea… I might have to do the same for my gaming setup!

you can take note of where your hand isn't touching the mouse and sculpt those parts to look how you want them to while also taking note of which parts are or aren't contributing that much, for example, how much of that tail is really needed, also it could use mouse skates with such a project, it would be wise to see if there's somebody willing to collab to make a custom circuit board, this would also allow you to experiment with more creative mouse wheel placements

The ability to just make arbitrary shapes is way too good to pass up on. It's both fun and practical.
I think there’s a fundamental problem with having the palm down on the desk. *I think the position is like holding a cup.* And your hand has to be semi-relaxed. Kind of like a joystick only you’re sliding it around instead of leaning it using actuators. So almost like you have your fist closed with some on top and you’re sliding around on the side of your palm with the pinky at the bottom. 🤙 pretty much like this emoji only the pinky would be closed.

I think if you painted it as if it were an island and used a mousepad as blue as the sea, it would be perfect. If you look closely at its shape, it looks like a volcanic island. In addition to being a mouse, it would be a decorative piece on your desk.

Probably gonna get some flak for this, but I've always found modern console controllers to be far better in terms of comfort and avoiding carpel tunnel, my hands are basically at a natural resting position in my lap and all I'm really doing is moving my thumbs and a couple of fingers to do everything, as opposed to my whole arm whilst worrying about where my mouse is situated on a desk and having to possibly reset that position, as well as play a game.
A good thumbstick with high aiming sensitivity and extra back buttons are all I really need, mouse and keyboard are great, but they were never really designed specifically for gaming. They were simply the most accurate/precise medium for a long time.
I think modern gamers have proven that with a tonne of practice, just like a mouse, you can be just as precise with a controller. Afterall, it's about hand-eye co-ordination, not mouse-eye.

Mouse are still just that more precise. You only need to compare console and PC pro players/high tier players
for version 2, just realize you can change any shape that you aren"t touching
that leaves you a lot of options of things to remove or restyle to your liking

Around 13 yeas ago, when I bought my first 3D printer (RepRap) I was wondering how to scan objects. What I did back then:
1) used playdoh to get either the object or the negative
2) put it in the freezer
3) used dental floss to slice it
4) put it in the scanner
5) "connected the dots" :D
It looked like suede/silk in the thumbnail, that would be so comfy to have a thin layer of suede on it
I vaguely remember that hands, in their most natural and (supposedly) must comfortable position, don't sit flat. When you think about it, when your hands are at your side you palms are oriented toward your body. I'm guessing that rather than being flat against the surface of a table you'd be more comfortable angling them at about 45°.

Afai understand how iPhone's lidar works is it relies on axelerometer data as well to understand how phone's position changed in space. So it may be optimized for in-hand scanning, while going nuts on moving objects.
You'd probably got something if you moved phone around static table. But I was surprised that set of regular photos worked just as fine.

3D scans tend to use the compass to get more accurate readings which makes rotating the object not work as the phone stays stationary. I had the same problem yesterday as a nearby library just got some 3d printers.

I made the same thing when i didn't have a 3d printer yet. Made a mold with clay and then cast it with epoxi resin. It became heavy, but it is so comfortable! The 3d printed version seems better
If you make a version of this mouse where your hands rests 90 degrees, it will help your wrist health in the future. This is why digital tablets are so good, because your hand is in a more natural position. The reason is because of your forearm bones, when you put them onto a normal mouse, they rotate and cross each other more than normal, but when you hold a pencil or pen, the wrist is at the midway point of rotation thus having the forearm bones in a more natural and relaxed position.
I do this this is a great idea, finding a comfortable AND practical design for a mouse that preserves your wrist health while maintaining functionality, a great idea… I might have to do the same for my gaming setup!

you can take note of where your hand isn't touching the mouse and sculpt those parts to look how you want them to while also taking note of which parts are or aren't contributing that much, for example, how much of that tail is really needed, also it could use mouse skates
with such a project, it would be wise to see if there's somebody willing to collab to make a custom circuit board, this would also allow you to experiment with more creative mouse wheel placements
this is certainly very cool and you are very crafty, but for ultimate comfort i would certainly try to go for vertical
