I'll need side by side performance comparison of ally and claw to decide whether Intel's claims are even true or not
took the words out of my mouth. the title seems a little bit clickbaity.
@@Ustaleone how is the title clickbait?
@@hugodantas7796 Because, to me at least, it implied a head-to-head or side-by-side between intel and amd to see which one of the two was more powerful in order to see if amd got 'crushed' or not. He asks a question which in general the video then answers, but in this case there was no answer.
Intel one also need at least 65 watt to get same amount of performance as z1 extreme
@@lmLightning uh, actually.. Dave 2d showed intel ultra 7 needed 30 watts to have same performance of ally at 25watts... So I would say, at 45watts (ultra 7's max tdp) if optimized correctly, can outperform ally at 30watts (z1 extreme's last tdp that gives any significant boost, after this tdp it's almost useless using any higher wattage) by 5-10 fps maybe?
I'm excited to see the battle of the handheld APUs! Just hope they start getting the prices down a little as competition grows. And smaller companies like Aya Neo can start getting their prices down too
Yeah this makes amd try harder to have more igpu performance
First results of the new Intel SoC shows that gpu part is clawing to same performance level as amd competitor.
These companies sell hardware for profit so I don’t think they would lower the prices. Steam deck is cheaper because Steam sells games for profit.
@@hoanghg88 As the demand for a technology increases, especially a niche technology like the parts to handheld gaming consoles, it becomes cheaper to manufacture and therefore the wholesale cost gets lower. A company can either enjoy a higher margin on their goods OR keep a similar percentage of profit and lower the costs of the hardware with the price of the components. Sure, a PC gaming company can be greedy and laugh heartily as they know they're taking us to the cleaners every time we buy their product OR to sell more of said product than their competitor, they lower the MSRP.
Ayaneos main source of income is their hardware, thats why they keep coming out with a new handheld every month. Don't think they'll reduce their prices
I just can't get over how much it looks just like a black Ally. The button shapes, locations, and case shape just looks so much like the Ally that if I didn't know it was technically a different device I would have just thought ASUS released a black model of the Ally.
ASUS: You can copy my homework, but don't make it exactly the same!
MSI:
its because they used parts from the ally, the screen is exactly the same
@@revrenecalyx837 😂 I came here to make this comment. Well played.
Design wise it looks like the Ally, but has a significantly bigger battery, better control sensors, and cooling. So this is basically an upgraded Ally.
@@TVCHLORD I don't know if screen is exactly the same. It lacks VRR which Ally has.
The real test will be in Meteor Lake can put up a fight at lower TDPs
I believe it's lowest TDP is 15w unfortunately. I hope they can do something about that.
@@robertlawrence9000Even on the new bios?
@@soragranda I am not sure what they are doing by launch but yes last I heard, it didn't have an option under 15w.
@@robertlawrence9000 Yea but MSI claw has 32% bigger battery than Asus Ally
@@killermoon635 Good they are doing that because I think they are going to need it especially if they can't get the TDP lower than 15w. It looks power hungry by what videos I seen of it.
it would be nice to have 7840u vs 155h at 30w tdp on recent games
and both on lpddr5 6400 ... comparing amd 5600 memory and intel 6400 memory when those iGPUs scale with memory speed is pointless ... I hope the minisforum em780 can serve as a comparison platform ....
Asus Ally at 30w will have less battery life than this MSI claw at same power, because MSI claw has 32% larger battery.
Dave2D did a comparison between the Ally at 25W and Claw at 30W and 720p for 4 titles. The two were basically identical with the Claw being maybe 5% faster.
@@lubossoltes321 well, Intel can go up to 7467 so it should take advantage of it. AMD has also 12 CUs vs 8 XE cores on Intel, if everything is equal that should be taken note as well. Anyway I welcome the competition, as it will make both AMD and Intel push even harder on these type of chips
@@Zman1719 so ally at 30w clears the claw especially that msi never make anything decent in the case of materials that is why they are cheaper than Competitors
Would love to see emulation tests on this chipset particularly for RPCS3 & Xenia.
Regardless of whether this one lives up to initial hype or not, it is definitely a good thing to see another mainstream manufacturer having a try at a handheld pc, so much easier for more people to consider them when they can see them at a local electronics retailer rather than simply relying on reviews online, especially now their igpus are within touching distance of the entry-level dgpus too.
Cant wait to get one.
I think it looks pretty good and I'm happy to see someone other than AMD entering the space. I do already own an Ally & Steam Deck so I just don't think there's any reason for me to pick one up. I do hope it does really well though and that Intel and AMD can start some heavy competition in the handheld PC space. That would be fantastic for us as consumers.
I was about to post this; I have an Ally and Deck, and see no real reason to buy another handheld right now. But I do hope that more manufacturers come in and that the chipsets diversify.
If something amazing were to come along, such as a (for handheld) high-level Nvidia RT Portable, then I would jump again and buy it.
And who knows? Feels a little bit like the Wild West Console Days of the 3DO/Jaguar/CDi/Playstation/Saturn in this current portable space where another competitor hits the market every few months; Intel jumping in is diversifying the chipsets, and just might push Nvidia to do something (other than Switch).
Why do you need both?
@@Charlii931603 Need's definitely not the right word but in their stock configuration however they offer different things and that's why I bought both. Steam Deck is a Steam OS device and I love it for that. I have no desire to dual boot Windows on it but I do play a lot of PC Game Pass games which don't work on Linux so the Ally is good for that as well as anything that could use the extra power, though that's not something I need often.
Overall I prefer to use the Steam Deck by a wide margin, and if I couldn't afford both and had to choose one it would be the Deck, but there are some things you can't do on Steam OS so I have both.
But since I already have a Windows handheld and the Claw doesn't really offer anything unique there's really not any motivation for me to pick it up unless I just wanted to try out the Intel hardware for myself which I'm not super interested in.
Also they should improve battery life to at least 4 hours
@@Charlii931603the need of installing windeck can be a pain even though it’s easier some people just like the use of windows from a different portable and steam deck just for steam os I would think. I also own both and it just makes it easier to not worry about switching os’s on steam deck
Can’t wait to get my hands on one. I love what I see so far ❤
Some synthetic benchmarks and a chart comparing the results with the Steam Deck and the Asus Rog Ally would be nice.
Also some GNU/Linux benchmarks that seems to perform better in most games now, even with wine.
Synthetic benchmarks just give you a vague theoretical performance, real world gaming tests are how to compare them
@@CrocoDylianVT You are right, BUT sometimes you have to shrink the information, and better have something to compare than nothing.
Of course a geometrical average, an average, and reporting in how many games is better at 1080p low / high settings, 1440p low/high and 4k low/high, even 720p low/high settings in this case, being handhelds would be better, and even better a chart with all the results, and taking one, perhaps the Steam Deck "original drivers" as base 100, as drivers evolve too.
As someone who plays AAA titles on the go I’m pray games like cp77, BG3 and few others will perform well. They don’t have to be 60 fps but atleast well and smooth enough for me to greatly enjoy. Been waiting on MSI to release a handheld and this will hopefully give me a reason to sell my ROG Ally off.
Can't wait to see the final product. Also waiting on the OneX player with the Intel chip
Like always pretty nice video tanks for the good work.
Hey little question, do you use some kind of backgroud noise cancelling while recording? I know it sounds werid but i was just wondering 😅
Competition is always good. Glad Intel and AMD are gonna go head to head on the handheld market.
2 hours at 35W is not true... and you know it.... 35W APU + 15W system = 50W. that is approx 1 hour of battery at 35W APU.
No, you are wrong.
MSI played Forza horizon 5 at 35 Watt and got 2 hours of battery.
If you know 10 W Endurance Gaming so you will understand it says,
CPU+GPU+Other
Other includes other components.
@@HDRPC35w total battery drain or 35W APU my friend?
@@HDRPC in the video he is not showing 35W total, he is showing 35 APU (CPU package power ) . just scroll on the timeline.... so basically what he is showing theredoes not include the rest of the system . and that it is fact. I don´t care if it is intel or AMD or ARM. just stating a fact. if he means in the last sentence 35 total power consumption then the cpu package power shoul d be around 25W, and the performance would be lower than the one shown in the video.

So glad the time of handheld pc gaming has started i have been waiting for this i didnt think it would happen while im still alive lol but glad its here.
Looks so cool ETA!
Got my fingers burnt with a faulty MSI gaming laptop 18 months ago. In Europe their customer service team is based in Poland and they were horrendous. They couldn’t fix, offered me a lower spec laptop and refused to refund me. Only after the threat of legal action from my lawyer was i refunded; 7 months later! Never again will I purchase an MSI product. Still, every cloud has a silver lining as I bought a Steam Deck after that debacle and couldn’t be happier.
Part of me wanted to wait for this one... But I just bought a used Ayaneo 2 for 530 but comes with 32gb ram and 2tb storage .... So I think I'll be okay for now👍
anxious to see batocera running on this. Batocera with Steam is my ideal setup for a portable
I see no upside to choosing this over the AMD powered rivals.
Higher wattage (35w vs 30W) to get similar framerates and Intels somewhat inferior drivers, especially for older games running on earlier Direct X versions.
The upside will be if intel/msi can get the power usage and performance in a good place. Being that the Claw has a bigger battery than Ally and SD that would be a big sell. As an Ally owner I'll never understand why Asus went with the same size battery as a steam deck on a chip with worse lower tdp performance.
To save more money aswell as keeping it small and a good competitor, but i dont think everyone should forget about the legion go tho. its at the same price of the steam deck and ally but it outperforms them at bigger wattages, needs just more graphic driver updates to increase performance on lower wattages and thats all!@billybobthorton2026
@@billybobthorton2026the Lenovo legion go already exists
The MSI Claw is better. 30%+ bigger battery than the Ally, significantly better performance than the Steam Deck. Hall effect sensors. Best cooling in a handheld. Customizable grip buttons. Thunderbolt 4. Intel XeSS upscaling is better than FSR 2/3, with Intel having a better frame generation (ExtraSS) coming. Etc.
The MSI Claw is literally the best handheld thats been announced.
@@__aceofspadesthen they forgot the touch pad.
Imagine your laptop without one.
Thanks for the video.
Wouldn't the CPU be more bottlenecked playing on low and then turning xess on?
If I turn upscaling on I usually turn settings to high to at least help the game look a bit better while still reaping higher fps.
Very excited to get my hands on an Intel igpu handheld. These are just gonna get better as driver updates and they optimize battery efficiency. When ya get one I'd love to see if you could get a solid 120fps on Overwatch 2 in 1080p. The game seems to be getting better and better with optimizing across the board with integrated graphics.
The frames seem reasonably high, however...
1. 35W seems like a lot for a handheld. It does look like the cooling is holding up reasonably well, but I am curious to see long term testing and if it can keep it up over sustained periods of time.
2. Those frame jumps are a little concerning. Doesn't seem like the frames are all that stable.
4:15 hold up, wait a minute, why is the chip idleing with such a high usage? This makes the CPU-Z Stresstest invalid. He is downloading something (probably on steam) with 800MBIt/s, quite a bad time to benchmark.
It will be interesting to see at 15 Watt
Yeah sadly it doesn't go lower than 15w. At idle and not in game, it can drop battery percentage pretty quickly. I noticed that in a recent video when someone was showing it off at CES while just scrolling threw the interface.

Still gonna get one to have it in my handheld collection.
Had to return my ally becuase of software issues but im really looking forward to this device.
What's the little ARPG-style game you present at the beginning of the video ?
Edit: It came to my attention that ETA Prime sometimes uses upscaling without disclosing it, read the comments bellow to see some examples. Because of that I can't really stand for the numbers I have written here and I'm keeping it up just as warning to others. While I still assume based on other benchmarks and numbers that 7 155H will underperform for handhelds, I can't really use these numbers to prove my point.
Original comment: Comparing this with your benchmarks for Legion Go and Ally it's looking like quite a disappointment. I haven't went over all the old videos but from what I could quickly find, here's small comparison.
Forza Horizon on Legion Go: 1200p, medium settings, cca 95 FPS, 20W for APU
Forza Horizon on Ally: 1080p, medium settings, cca 85 FPS, 15W for APU
Forza Horizon on Claw: 1080p, medium settings, XeSS Balanced, cca 90 FPS, 35W for APU
Cyberpunk 2077 on Legion Go: 1080p, low settings, FSR performance, cca 75 FPS, 30W for APU
Cyberpunk 2077 on Claw: 1080p, low settings, XeSS performance, cca 50 FPS, 35W for APU
Ratchet and Clunk on Legion Go: 800p, low settings, cca 70 FPS, 20W for APU
Ratchet and Clunk on Claw: 1080p, low settings, XeSS performance, cca 55 FPS, 35W for APU

Hopefully with Thunderbolt, an alt mode capable USB-C, A couple of USB-A and an oculink. just wondering if you can show how you get afterburner settings as I would really like to see that same out for my Legion Go
How are those numbers compared with the previously obtained from the 7840? , higher, lower ? , what percentage difference ?
Checking your review of Rog Ally, it was running FH at steady 80 FPS with only 15W for CPU package. Same resolution, same MED settings and no FSR (at least you did not mentioned it).
When you turned Turbo mode on, for CPU to use 30W, it was somewhere around 100FPS, Still without FSR. So with that, you can get even more?
Looks to me AMD has the edge here.

As it stands across your videos, I find it really hard to use your metrics as a comparison point. I have to find the video for the other device and seek the exact same game, pause both videos, and compare. This is impossible on mobile too.
I don't think I will upgrade. Between Ally and OLED SD, I think I'm good until there's a major improvement. Maybe when gen 2 handhelds get released. Right now they're basically the same. My ultimate handheld would have hall effect sticks and triggers, oled 120hz VRR screen, backlit menu buttons, good performance and great battery life. Not a single one has all of those features yet. If I could take best things and merge Oled SD with Ally, I think that would be pretty close to perfect.

These handheld gaming devices are pretty cool. I'm glad that Intel finally is releasing a good apu alternative.
I want this battle to trickle to other tech.
I'm hoping that amd's Monopoly on the main consoles can be broken. I pretty much blame them for the problems we're having with PC games right now.
I want a console system with Nvidia or ARC. NVIDIA preferably but I doubt that will happen since they couldn't aquire ARM. Which they should have been allowed.
I'd be happy with ARC if they can be competitive on performance.

Are you going to review Acer Nail compare with MSI Claw?
53Wh battery for 2 hours means running a 26.5w for whole system. Since we know the screen fans other components draw about 8-10w, that apu has around 16-18w to run. Therefore the 2 hours scenario should add the term “up to”, and I think it is based on core ultra is not suggested run below 15w, according to those 155h laptop reviews show if it run below 15w, it is totally a mess in gaming. Hope that there will be game testing with ALLY and Legion Go side by side in low wattage soon.
15w is minimum for this
Does it have VRR? Because if not. Ally is the way
I'd like to see Forza Motorsport and Starfield on the MSI Claw, thank you
When do you think next gen iGPU’s will come to market?
Why do these handhelds keep coming with only 16gb of total system ram? Some games by themselves take up to 16gb of ram. Pair that with an APU where it needs to be split up between the vram and system and you’re bound to have issues. I could understand 16gb of ram for something like the steamdeck, it’s cheaper starting at $350-400 and runs its own lightweight operating system, then you get these systems that start at $500-600 at minimum running windows and a high resolution screen with no easy way to upgrade past 16gb of ram. I think it would be more than passable with 24gb for the forceable future, but for now I’m gonna wait.
I may hold out but it looks good would get it tho

After using a 1165g7 based handheld, there are a lot of issues with intel's drivers and power optimization. I don't think that has changed. The steam deck automatically meets demand, giving better battery life than any other device. Every windows device you have to adjust profiles to every single game to get something similar, and even then it falls short. The only use case for these other devices is at high power, which kind of kills the purpose of a portable.
Yes but for power and ability to play all games (at least without modifications) steamdeck falls short this is better compared with handhelds such as the ally or legion go etc

I’ve currently got the steam deck and ally to cover all my blind spots. Even if the claw is 10% better I can’t say that justifies a purchase from me.
The next one for me will probably be the ally 2, shucks maybe even the steam deck 2 if they up the performance.

from what i remember the ally ran cyber punk with better fps at same settings and honestly igpus utilize the ram alot and the claw will have half the ram of said laptop.this might just turn into a buy if ur an intel fan but otherwise it seems less performing..
MSI Claw somehow still stuck in GTX 1050-1650 performance range (depend on TDP), I picked the regular ROG Ally and thinking not upgrading until iGPU market reach power range of at least 2060-2070, which is more worthy to spend budget later on
The best part though is thunderbolt!
got a Rog ally already only reason to upgrade is if claw had 32GB of ram
iGPU performance is heavily based on RAM. Did I hear correctly that the machine being tested has 32GB?
RAM's speed/bandwidth especially, capacity helps a little to none above 16gb.
Meteor Lake does not even use hardware for XeSS... It does not support XMX... It only support DP4 version of XeSS which same as the one used for nvidia and AMD GPU...
In other words, FSR should still perform better on Core Ultra 7 than XeSS, but XeSS might have slightly better image on same mode.
Yes XeSS has better image quality.
DP4a XeSS still produces a better result than FSR 2.
Where’s the link to order?
2 hours at 35w? how heavy is the claw? does it overheat with such a massive battery working at 35w for so long?
35 watts for just the cpu package not including the screen, rgb lighting, fans etc. More like 45 watts. And the battery is only 20% bigger than the Rog Ally battery. They will probably have about the same battery life.

Not even close. With 35W just for the CPU, the whole system would consume more like 50W. And the battery is 53Wh.
They said 35 watt SoC POWER means CPU+GPU+Other.
Intel has 10 Watt SoC Endurance Gaming.

I wish they showed us the backside. I need my back paddles before I can consider.
I can't wait to see 2h battery life at 30W TDP xD
I doubt it honestly, expect like 20 - 30% better battery life than rog ally with same exact wattge, cuz both handheld have almost identical component aside the cpu and gpu
@mrbobgamingmemes9558 Next time, I'll end my comment with "lmao" instead of emoji. I can't wait for MSI to say something along the line of "by full load we meant 15w of course" lmao.
