congrats to hpi! I read about hpi's endurance race in a magazine and I didnt believe it. Ive seen a couple bajas at the track but never realized how capable they are. I like the trick carbon body they put on the baja for this race. Great stuff.
wow goes to show how well these bigboys toys are made i got one and i love it !! when i bought one of these it changed the game in the way of ,,,,,,,, u still just a kid when it comes to toys what ever age u r .. hell yer
speaks volumes for the reliability of that beast. I might have to sell off a couple of my Savages to get one now that I have seen this Vid. Well done and very cool.
That's sweet that goes to show you if it made it through that it's good for life great vid bro you must have been tired but looked like alot of fun good job bro
Dude that's just MANIC! For a $1000 does that include the engine with the kit? What else do u need to get it running? Cant believe you can get something like that for just over 500 pounds!! I WANT ONE!!!
@X750Fnor they had 6 fuel/pit stops for fuel, it says that at the end of the video if you watched that far lol. They run about 45 minutes to 1 hour on a tank.
cool vid how many times did the receiver batt need charging/changing? what was the overall condition of the baja at the end? it would have been pretty banged up lol nice work
Like us, put it on the back of a Rhino or even a motorcycle - or - just drive it into where you are trying to get to. We do a lot of hike'n'drive's with the R/C's. It will run for 45min on a tank of gas so you can go a ways! It drives awesome - you can see the weight of the car working! Nitro, while quick and fast, needs constant attention. This thing, drive it, park it, drive it some more, park it, drive it some more! What to modify? YOUR DRIVING AREA!!! More space!!! Throw a tuned pipe on it!
It was also done in late January, so it could still be cooler out and would lessen the chance of overheating. HPI needs to do this with the 5T. That my have a higher overheating chance because of the truck body, but just cut a hole in the window and I think it'd be fine.
Hey man, just a question, how do you compare this to the nitro MGT 8.0? Maintenace wise, is it easy to repair this? or replace if theres something thats broken? for instance, engine, carburetor, muffler, pistons, etc...? easier to repair than nitro trucks? did you ever had any problems with yours? if you just run it on-road... how often do you replace the spark plug usually? Thanks a lot bro! i hope you'd reply coz im really looking forward on getting one... nice video! =D
Read the "MORE INFO" over on the right and with link to the full-story. Basically 6-tanks of fuel. We carried WAY TOO MUCH as we did not have a real idea how much it would take, so we took "enough!" hehehehe Battery changes - can't remember off hand...
@sonicboomracing Back in Jan/2007 There was not much for mod's on the market and with this being a HPI Long Distance test, we wanted it very stock to show durability.
Overheat!!! NO WAY!! We did not have time for overheating issues!! PS; you know this is a gasoline powered engine, right? Plus, we ran a very stock engine for reliability. Nitro would have had issues and this was a full-size 120 miles through the desert!!!
Now with cellphone technology Imagine having a long distance race with R/C cars!?! having a first person view and racing the R/C Car for 100's of miles?! that would be epic! unless you flipped it 70 miles out.....
SPECS: 120 miles! Run time: 5hours & 59minutes Average Speed: 21.7mph Time overall: 9hours & 40mintues Fuel stops: Six Gas mileage: 100.9 miles per gallon 120 miles - Fuel used - 6 Tanks at 750cc each total of 4500cc = to 1.188774 Gallons
Hey BigGypp0, let's see: Yamaha Rhino cost $10,000 and topped out at 46mph. Baja 5B cost $1,000 and topped out at 46mph. Slow is such a thrown around term, I guess I have to ask what do you have that is so fast?
i knwo that this comment is months old but i just wanted to say for other people buying a baja 5b, i ahve one and they said 6 fuel stop...6 tanks.... iv put more then 6 tanks through mine and mines still good, and iv been driving it harder then they have
Receiver Pack Charged: Twice: Once before the start and once during the mid-way break. Overall Condition: GREAT! With minor scrapes and scratches on the chassis and A-arm, normal stuff. We could have done another 120-miles! The Baja 5B actually went on display at RCX2007: hpiracing[dot]com/news/2007040301/
you need to read the story and get the details - more than 20minutes per tank!!!! 120 miles! Run time: 5hours & 59minutes Average Speed: 21.7mph Time overall: 9hours & 40mintues Fuel stops: Six Gas mileage: 100.9 miles per gallon Read the story notes on the video.
Go ahead - please explain... WHY? We did 120-miles... Should'a, could'a would'a - but at the end of the day... we did what we set out to do - 120 FULL SIZE MILES THROUGH THE DESERT!
@dean0681 hahahha - look at the date when the video was posted! You don't have a place to run a 120 miles in the UK! In 2007 you where not even thinking about a Baja, you where playing with your 1/32 scale desk top R/C. You've been on here since 2006 and no video's... "THICK"... hmmmm Swindon in the house - go outside and film something or you affraid to pop up your rainbow umbrella? Put those old Pigtown Flig records back on. Hey, thanks for watching and posting!
the hpi baja does about 40mph not 60, and the menace is quick, but wouldnt be able to keep up with baja on that terrain, its a 1/5th scale car with a 23cc engine.
Hello Melindagreenjens, I can see your point when you are looking at just my response... but I only respond condescendingly when I have received condescending comments. I hope you did read his initial comment. Thank you for pointing out that I am a looser, I had no idea that your know who I am. PS: Children playing with cars is NOT pointless!

Well done and very cool.
If anybody wonders why the HPI version is twice as much as the King motors or Rovan baja's.. This is why!
Credit where credit is due, well done guys and well done HPI.
congratulations very nice video...i've got one baja 5 days ago and i'will start tuning it up....
VERY Cool... Just pre-ordered a Baja-SS kit partially based off of this video..
THANKS!
That's sweet that goes to show you if it made it through that it's good for life great vid bro you must have been tired but looked like alot of fun good job bro
it's funny to see such a convoy through the desert, and a small rc car leading the way
Great vid , good to show what these small cars can actually do .
Great vid, well done lads.I didnt think it would last that long.
Great! see you in desert!! At lest you are out having fun!We will have to hop up a Rhino so we can keep up with you!
nice video and now thats a endurance race 120 miles on a dirt road
great video, it shows that if you buy a baja you'd be buying a good and long lasting product.
excatly hpi does make the best 1/8th off road truck EVER
and this is why HPI are the best ^^, got 3 form HPI drift stage D, Savage XL 5.9 and this thing can take some hammer, and just got myself a Baja 5b ss
one of the most funniest video i have ever seen!
Great video guys really good watch I was wondering did u need to change tyres
cool man we have done cross country flights in RC planes ... great vid
THANKS!! We like crazy!!!
WOW @ 20 miles per tank. Things a beast.
Dude that's just MANIC! For a $1000 does that include the engine with the kit? What else do u need to get it running? Cant believe you can get something like that for just over 500 pounds!! I WANT ONE!!!
We got roughly 20-miles per tank. 120-miles divided by six tanks of fuel = 20-miles per tank.
@X750Fnor they had 6 fuel/pit stops for fuel, it says that at the end of the video if you watched that far lol. They run about 45 minutes to 1 hour on a tank.
Pretty awesome road test
Great driving!
Very cool! This is sicker than life :-)
Wow that is amazing considering when it was filmed! How many tanks of gas did it take ?? :D
I think there was a Hong pin failure and one other item... can’t remember it was so long ago!
cool vid
how many times did the receiver batt need charging/changing?
what was the overall condition of the baja at the end? it would have been pretty banged up lol
nice work
Looks like a time. That's awesome.
Like us, put it on the back of a Rhino or even a motorcycle - or - just drive it into where you are trying to get to. We do a lot of hike'n'drive's with the R/C's. Yo man sweet!! What part of the us did you shoot this at?
Kit version with option parts - standard. Lower cost - you build it. Not released just yet.
It was also done in late January, so it could still be cooler out and would lessen the chance of overheating. HPI needs to do this with the 5T. That my have a higher overheating chance because of the truck body, but just cut a hole in the window and I think it'd be fine.
That was awesome! great gas mileage too! was this buggie stock, if not, what mods were done to it?
@GCRad1 .. when you finished one tank , let you cool the engine down ?
He has a 29cc engine with a jetpro pipe which is used on scooters, that speed sounds about right.
Thanks a lot bro! i hope you'd reply coz im really looking forward on getting one... nice video! =D
We're there any mechanical failures during this run? I'm astounded, I'd love to do something like this myself!
Wow tat was coool... i would like to download this video.. into my mobile phone can ?? ^^
Ok I noticed at the end of the video they say they needed 6 fuel stops so I assume 6 tanks??
@GCRad1 wow, you really got 1 hour of runtime per tank? going full out?
how many times did they roll it wen they were in the rocky sections?
HPI should make a diesel version of the buggy that would be sweet lol
Read the "MORE INFO" over on the right and with link to the full-story. Basically 6-tanks of fuel. We carried WAY TOO MUCH as we did not have a real idea how much it would take, so we took "enough!" hehehehe
Battery changes - can't remember off hand...
Freakin sweet dude :D
You must drive one or see it in person before you judge the speed. It would run over any nitro. Have any vids of your baja going 60+ ginetti91?
@sonicboomracing Back in Jan/2007 There was not much for mod's on the market and with this being a HPI Long Distance test, we wanted it very stock to show durability.
how long did it take to follow that?
Did it run flat out the whole way? doesn't look as if it was going very fast in places
If I remember correctly it was about 6-hours.
Overheat!!! NO WAY!! We did not have time for overheating issues!! PS; you know this is a gasoline powered engine, right? Plus, we ran a very stock engine for reliability.
Nitro would have had issues and this was a full-size 120 miles through the desert!!!
i want a baja but cant decided bewteen baja 5b or the baja 5b ss is it very hard to build?
Now with cellphone technology Imagine having a long distance race with R/C cars!?! having a first person view and racing the R/C Car for 100's of miles?! that would be epic! unless you flipped it 70 miles out.....
SPECS:
120 miles!

Fuel stops: Six
Gas mileage: 100.9 miles per gallon
120 miles - Fuel used - 6 Tanks at 750cc each total of 4500cc = to 1.188774 Gallons
Wow that over 100mpg. Thats assuming it was ran out of fuel for each fill up.
wat parts broke and wore out?
@priegelienie how can you opperate 2 baja's wit 2 hands?
Hey BigGypp0, let's see: Yamaha Rhino cost $10,000 and topped out at 46mph. Baja 5B cost $1,000 and topped out at 46mph. Slow is such a thrown around term, I guess I have to ask what do you have that is so fast?
hw long did it take
does the engine dosent over heat?
did u flip over even once?
Is that an ss or 2.0. And what mods does it have
it says at the end that they stopped 6 times for fuel
i knwo that this comment is months old but i just wanted to say for other people buying a baja 5b, i ahve one and they said 6 fuel stop...6 tanks.... iv put more then 6 tanks through mine and mines still good, and iv been driving it harder then they have
5b FTW. Got my self a 5b ss because of this.
TRXtuner95 why???
How much does it cost?
@GCRad1 have u tried rc airplanes
6-tanks of gas on the STOCK 23cc engine - boyeeeee!!!
they should have done the 5t aswell to see which was better
@mudrider95 6 times and they only used 1.1 gallons of gas so the mpg was 100.8 i think
from Barstow, California to Primm, Nevada - 120 miles!
they should do it with a savage gear it down 3 speed, bow tie tires, lighten it up and there you go...and of course a axial 32
LOL You wish!
BTW, Isn't it Traxxas? not Maxxas? :P
@R3dDi3se1 they didnt have the 5t back then
you crazy man
whats a baja ss?????
One set of stock hip 5b rear tires did 120miles? MXT'S would but not the stock
I believe so, been so long I can't remember. We may have changed them halfway through, but it was seriously so long ago, I do not remember.
you know what woulda been funny? if a graboide came out of the ground like in the movie "tremores" and swallowed the baja up!
Receiver Pack Charged: Twice: Once before the start and once during the mid-way break.

Read the story notes on the video.
that little car is pretty funny
That's pretty good fuel economy, actually.
NOPE! It's the OG-Original!!!
Just a plain'ol Baja 5B with a few bits...
We did this back in Jan of this year.
Go ahead - please explain... WHY? We did 120-miles... Should'a, could'a would'a - but at the end of the day... we did what we set out to do - 120 FULL SIZE MILES THROUGH THE DESERT!
they should have made a battery pack for this thing. you have to recharge the car itself.they should have made removable battery packs for this
it looks like they are driving a pimped out golf buggy
i love this video i want to do this
@dean0681 hahahha - look at the date when the video was posted! You don't have a place to run a 120 miles in the UK! Hey, thanks for watching and posting!
i would get one but im getting a revo 3.3
its RTR which means it comes built with everything.
the hpi baja does about 40mph not 60, and the menace is quick, but wouldnt be able to keep up with baja on that terrain, its a 1/5th scale car with a 23cc engine.
HPI rules I got me a savage and it rulez i dont have a vid of it yet though
is the baja really worth about $1.200? oh and the jato would shit itself once it saw this. i only got a revo 3.3 but its ok
Done all in 1-Day:
RUN TIME: 5:59 Hours/Mins
crazy! YeaH
