    I've been an Android user from the getgo and the iPhone 7 Plus was my very first iPhone I bought. As much as I thought I was going to miss Android due to the restriction on the iPhone, surprisingly enough, I don't really miss it all that much. I've never miss customized my phone as I used to when I was younger. All I do is download some TH-cam videos, listen to music, watch videos, take pictures, browse the web, and send text/emails. So, the iPhone is more than enough for me and I haven't had a problem with it so far.

      james wee same here i have been using my note 4 for like 4 years and just recently i bought a note 8 and which I returned i wanted a change iv been android for abit too long and so i thought id go with ios and i can honeslty say it's amazing how ios is its fast fluid and simple sometimes you need simplicity to get it to work and i just love it, android is getting there too with the new android devices coming out and being as fast as ios just shows soon enough there won't be any difference, for me personally I cant stick to 1 OS for longer than 4 years i know after my iPhone8+ stops working il be back on android

      In your use-case scenario I imagine ANY of the flagship phones on the market would suffice. Really just comes down to personal preference and which one you like best, and if that's the iPhone, well that's cool.

      I'm debating between the iPhone 8 plus and the Galaxy S9+, coming from a Galaxy s7 Edge user. All I do on my phone is watch videos, text and call, and use social media apps. Android doesn't support snapchat which I use alot so I'm kind of debating switching for a while. I've been using Samsung since the s3. Should I switch?

    "The iPhone X should've been what the iPhone 8 is."
    .... So you want the iPhone X to be an iPhone 8?

    I am not a iPhone user, nor I am one who admires IOS. However, I am starting to get irritated by reviewers who are too focused on design elements rather than ease and convenience of use. Call me old fashioned, but I am more interested in products which are well built and ergonomic.
    For example, I still admire the circa 1968 AT&T manufactured touch tone phone. It was simple, had heft, and was virtually unbreakable. Compare those to modern landline phones that a chea[ly made, unreliable, and have horrible sound reproduction.
    Moving on to mobile phones, what is wrong with a well-built phone, with easily accessible fingerprint scanners, with screens that are protected by bezels and lips that make the phone easy to hold, and which protect the screens from damage. I want a phone that I'm won't be afraid to use without sheathing it in skins and/or bulky cases. If I want wireless charging, I'm ok with an impact resistant plastic back. Not only is plastic sturdy and scratch residstant, but it isn't a fingerprint magnet.
    Until truly unbreakable glass is developed, I am not interested in buying a bezeless "work of art" with curved glass yada yada yada.

    Nice review, cannot complain enough about the glitches and frame drops on iPhones. Long time Apple person (decades), but the bugs have been in iOS for a LONG time and every year they say "faster, better" next year "faster, better" and here we are and Glitchy UI !!! PIxel 2 w/ Oreo (weird names) looks speedy and nice to use...giving it a serious chance, really high bar to leave Apple's system though so we shall see! Thanks for the review.

    Why they didn't upgrade the resolution and switched to AMOLED? Just to make the iPhone x more premium looking and look like it has much better quality so they can sell it more at a higher price

    How often do you need to charge it that you complain about slow charging? I charge my 7+ overnight and I never notice that it would be slow. Occasionally if I need to charge during the day then it gets like 50% of charge in like an hour or less so I don't think it is slow at all.

  • @jackmanning1117
    @jackmanning1117 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yes, it looks outdated, but that’s because the iPhone X exists. For those people who wanted Apple to make a big change and take risks, they can get the iPhone X. However, for all the people who hate the notch and hate Face ID and wanted Apple to keep their old design, Apple is selling a brand new, fully up to date phone called the iPhone 8/8 Plus! These two phones have Touch ID and no notch, but look the same as previous iPhones. The iPhone 8/8 Plus is exclusively for people who hate the iPhone X and don’t want to change the way they do things (and for people who want to spend less money).

  • @eljayy91
    @eljayy91 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    What is with everyone’s craze on bezels? The iPhone is a classic design that is used for company graphics, advertisements and more, when you see a photo or graphic of the front you instantly know it’s an iPhone. The design of the back from the 6 to the 8 is a welcomed change, no more ugly antenna lines and a cleaner and more premium look with new finishes. I love my 8 Plus, I’m still getting a nice size screen and when I hold it in landscape mode to watch something or play games I can grip the top and bottom bezels with my thumbs instead of trying to hold it by just the thin frame or interrupting the display. It’s so much more comfortable. The hype over bezeless is pathetic.

    Great review, Tim. I will say that when I switched to iPhone four years ago I went from using notifications all the time on my Android phone to NEVER swiping down on my iPhone for notifications. The only time I look at them is on the lock screen but it just makes no sense to swipe down while you're in the phone to access the notifications because it's just easier and more organized to go directly into the app. Outside of that though almost everything about iOS I prefer, except yeah i do agree iOS11 has been the buggiest iOS release in a very long time, at least as long as I have been using iPhones/Pads...

    Question: if you can get through 1 day and then 1 some means you don’t need to charge during the day. So the chance of you needing fast charging during the day is much less right? And if so u really don’t need to shell out extra cash for optional fast charging right? So needing to shell out extra cash is not really a serious disadvantage right?

      Yes the iPhone 8 Plus battery is one of the best. I would say it is better than My Samsung note 8 battery was.
      Don’t pay too much attention to these TH-cam battery tests because they don’t show real world usage.
      When gaming the Samsung battery is better, not hugely but it is. This is where real world usage comes into it though because you aren’t going to be gaming all day and that is where the iPhone catches up because it’s standby battery consumption is almost nil whereas a Samsung is currently sucking juice.
      Also for some reason I started to notice that as I filled up my note 8 with apps the battery life started to decrease. This was only about a few months at which point I decided to sell and switch it a iPhone 8 Plus because I could see that it was heading the same direction as my old Samsung had.
      Let just say on my iPhone 8 Plus they for example yesterday I took my phone off charge at about 5 in the morning. At 6.30 that evening it was 52 percent and been watching TH-cam and gaming for quite a few hours which is more than my normal usage and I still went to sleep hours later with around 25 percent.

    • @adnertga6559
      @adnertga6559 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      wolf hunter Yes, many people only look at the specs when comparing batteries between iPhones and android phones. But the apps on iPhone are way better optimized and use up a lot less battery life, so the battery life is much better.

    $900 for a phone
    $75 for fast charger
    $99 for wireless charger (not the fast one, as in Samsung, it's not available in so called "progressive and modern innovative" apple)
    $35 for wireless charging cable
    $199 for apple care
    and you still have no headphone jack nor persolanisation possibilities.
    $1308 for a device from 2013. Which currently does not represent any new features.

      @bruxi78230 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      David Seda-I've heard lots of Android owners whose processor run at half (or less) speed say that Benchmarks don't count. Benchmarks are an objective way to measure the difference in processors. Now in Fantasyland where you live, they don't count. Sounds like an excuse to me for a badly beaten cpu/gpu. If that helps you think you've made a good purchase, enjoy it. However it seems like denial to me.
      As time goes on Android is going to struggle to keep up with iOS. But it's not a fair race, a company with massive resources like Apple that is focused on creating the best products will win the race over the herd of cats that is Android.

      bruxi78230 the headphone jack is just bad if companies don't give a shit about it, for example the DAC on the LG V30 is like light years ahead of the Note8 and iPhone 8 in terms of sound quality.

      The phone is $800, it’s not actually $75 for a fast charger, you don’t have to get Apple care, a cable definitely doesn’t cost $35, and the design dates back to 2014 at the earliest, so cut the bullshit, dude.

    Couldn’t agree more on your take on the notifications system, the need to change that, although dark mode still needs more optimization and I noticed that you didn’t mention it but it’s not that big of a deal, you also didn’t mention 1080p slow mo @ 250fps.
    Anyways I think the camera has received a big update on the new models, I’ve notice some major change in contrast and exposure and images look sharper the previous models

    That's why I switched to Note 8. Why should I keep my iphone when iOS is not smooth anymore and not have an Android phone with more features? Today Android is as smooth enough as Andorid with a lot of more features. That's all! Bye bye my iPhone 6s Plus

    • @KelpShake98
      @KelpShake98 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Makarios Ousta The 6s Plus is two years old now so of course it’s gonna be a little slow. I’m using an iPhone 6 Plus from 2014 and although it’s not as fast as it used to be it’s still pretty fast compared to some android phones from 2014. A lot of those phones from that year aren’t as supported as they used to be either.

    Fast charging comes on sub $200.00 phones in the box. It would be different if there was at least a 2amp iPad style charger in the box as that charger is almost as fast and is well worth the money to get the 12w chargers they are around $20.00 and you can use your same cable.

      Danny2692 Why the hell I would be lying? My S8 and many other people that I know has S8 and Note 8 has the same issue. The reason people like you don’t notice the lags cause you never experienced something like iPhone. Try an iPhone for a week and you will know what I was talking about. There are many TH-camrs and blog says the same thing. I paid $750 for that S8 cause of its look and still it’s a great looking phone but then that’s it.

  • @KelpShake98
    @KelpShake98 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If you use an iPad charger, the phone will charge WAY FASTER than the little one it comes with. Also the TH-cam glitch isn’t the fault of iOS, it’s the TH-cam app itself. The developers for the TH-cam app are terrible when it comes to fixing glitches.

    Anker 29w charger and lightning usb-c cable on amazon is maybe $30. If you come from an android device with a 29w usb-c charger you don't need to buy a new one just the cable and that is $5. You don't need the Apple charger at all.
    Every test I've done gets to that 50% mark in 30 minutes as advertised. In fact it works on my iPhone 6s+ too.

    Personally, I don’t own any USB-C cables in my house at all so I don’t really agree with everyone tagging in the lightning cable and wanting USB-C. I just bought an iPhone X and first, I have about ten lightning cords in my house so that is great. Also, everyone at school uses lightning so I can use anything to charge. Thanks for including lightning Apple!

    Honest curiosity question, I hear people call those a volume rocker, as opposed to volume buttons... but I was given to understand that it is only a volume rocker if it is a single piece (and can on be pushed one or the other at any given time) not if it is separate buttons, is that not the case?
    Edit, shell out 19 and get 12w iPad charger for faster charging, won’t be quite as fast but it has served me well
