Many watercolorists, I have talked with, have favorite papers and complain about some, too. I found this very helpful in knowing how to evaluate which paper I would want to use for which kind of activity and medium I plan to use on it. Being a pastel artist moving into other mediums has its advantages and disadvantages. At least I know how to ask questions, research materials more suited for my goals, and to learn from good teachers, so as not to waste time or money learning what someone else has already experienced and shared. Thank you for giving so much assistance for this process. I keep gaining more interest because of your perspectives. 🥰

You are welcome! I figured it would be good to have a video explaining how I test papers because I have been doing first impression videos and I don’t want to explain every time I do the tests.

It must be very different for pastels.

I hope that it will help you find a watercolour paper that you like. 😀

    Very well done, thanks!
Hot-pressed watercolor paper is said to be the best for pen and wash, and I tend to agree except for what you called the "Edges" test. I find HP paper to be much harder to control because the "moment" for softening edges or creating blooms is so short compared to cold press. On the other hand, it's harder to draw with a pen on cold press paper... I haven't find the right paper yet.

Great clip. Really useful. Please: which paper did you use? Also, what are the drying times? And finally - do you recommend soaking 300gsm hot-press paper before using it for ink wash? Thanks!

Hello that was the baohong cold pressed 100% cotton watercolour paper. I didn’t time the drying time... i don’t have that information 😐
      . I normally don’t prewet my papers.
