Love your channel, Jimmy. I discovered it through Zach's channel. Love how you inked his Wolverine. You have an awesome style that I really like. It's great to see a few comic pros, especially inkers like yourself, Walden Wong, and Richard Friend, doing tutorials on youtube. When I was a kid, never in my wildest dreams I would get to see comic pros doing their stuff. Thanks for posting~ Liked and subscribed.

I love the Strathmore 200 for nib inking, Canson vellum for pencils and brush inking, and Canson watercolor paper for inkwash and watercolors. I like Blueline Pro for penciling too. My favorite is EON Board, but it's very expensive mainly because of the shipping cost.

Thanks Jimmy, I've got four different kinds of Bristol and the one you recommended is one of them. I follow Zach too, he's an amazing talent, his pencils are awesome and so are your inking abilities. I would love to someday pick up a title penciled by Zach and inked by you. Best of luck in the future.

I'm one of ZHC's og fans! I'm so glad I found you. I'm not in any way a professional, but since I found an inkling style, the popularity of my art has skyrocketed. I'm doing Inktober this year, and because ink is my favourite medium, I decided that this time, I want to find a paper that can withstand both the nib, and my washes. I have full colour inks, and I treat them quite like a watercolour, but it's hard to get the smooth lines with Watercolor paper. That being said, last year I used hot pressed Watercolour paper, and that worked quite well. However, I couldn't go over the same places, with the nib, that I had with a wash, without fear of ripping up the paper.
I'm not sure if you include full washes into your pieces or not, and would love to know what your thoughts are on all of this.

Hi Jimmy, Just wanted to let you know, I got my Shipment of the 200 series Strathmore 11x17 paper in today and used it for the next page of the Children's book i am currently illustrating. I am very pleasantly surprised at the performance of this paper with the hunt 102. No bleed at all and very crisp lines. I am always a bit skeptical after a few years ago i bought several pads of Strathmore 500 series Plate and they bled like a stuck pig! Although i think Strathmore fixed the issue with the 500 series, i am still a bit gun shy to spend the money on it. But thank you again for suggesting this paper. I still love my Eon Boards. but i am glad i have a good back up!

I was hoping to use it and hopefully be able to scan it into webcomic places. Not sure if I am able to use this pad for that. Sorry I know I’m all over the place, I just want to make sure I’m doing right. Thank you.

Nice video. Ironically the best paper I ever used was AquaBee ledger. I don't remember the exact weight but it was thicker than standard copy paper. Inked everything on it when I was in school because it was cheap. I remember Joe Kubert was shocked that I could ink like that on it especially with a 102 and never had issues. I will say though that I purchased that paper a few years later and it was absolute garbage. But for a while I choose that over Bristol. Most of my ink samples were on that for a while since it was thin enough I could easily see pencils on a light box compared to bristol board. Did use vellum for some jobs when the penciler wanted to keep the pencils but alway like the look I got on that ledger paper. Slick lines but also had some great drybrush for a smoother surface. One thing I will say is the blacks looked much better on the ledger even after erasing. But this 30 years ago and the india ink was far more rich compared to what I've found today. I don't even use india ink for spot blacks anymore.

Wouldn't bristol board be too think to be able to see through? I'd love to try it as I've heard vellum can start to fade after awhile, and I want to preserve my pencils by not inking on them.

This video is a good companion to the printing Blue line video. It's a dumb and simple request but a vid on how to scale your thumbnails/pencils on a file for print on the Strathmore would be helpful too. I don't have a printer of my own yet and will be going to Kinkos. I don't want to waste paper so those guys can get it correct. thanks for your time and effort.

Jimmy, there are two things that I've ALWAYS wondered about (i'm an aspiring penciler)...
#1: Do pecilers and inkers turn in pages all at once? Or do they typically turn in pages one by one as they are completed?
#2: I know that inkers and pencilers split the pages after a book is finished, but what about the guys you ink over the blue line print outs? How does the splitting and selling work then?

The vellum bristol boards they work well with air brush, I once did a painting of Superman versus Popeye (just messing around) all in black and Pac-Man in color and the airbrush painting did not bleed through! 😎👍 This is of course a Strathmore brand and I think it was a 200 series 11 by 14 about 15 sheets very good stuff paper feel like a canvas soft and or texture like it is not smooth! So to my point it can still be use to make comics but it's best for illustration or painting.

So, in your professional opinion, would you say that the Strathmore Bristol 200 series can take a beating more than the 3-,4-, or 500? Because I, too, use nibs & brushes. I have been searching forever for a board that withstand my brutal treatment of it. Thanks for this vid. 👍

@@JimmyReyesArt Interesting, I have to let it dry for 5-6 hours if I'm gong to ink with a nib. The paper just feels funny if I use it right away but I've been using 300 series paper. I'll switch to 200 and see if it's better. Thanks for the great video.
