    Yes there is a 1200 c.c. conversion kit for the 883. With the 883 the gear ratios in the transmission makes a better acceleration over the factory 1200 (48cubic inch). therefore the conversion is a wonderful upgrade.

    • @sammyb883
      @sammyb883  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the info man! didn't realize the gear ratios were set up for better acceleration. I'm going to mod the bike out aesthetically first, handlebars and pipes etc. but it's good to know I can upgrade the engine when I want some more power.

      sammyb_883. I was factory trained to be a H-D tech. Never want into a shop, but have turned wrenches on the side since he mod 1990s. Glad to help. Ride well.

    I see what you mean about the image stabilization! I think since your camera is side mounted and you can kind of see your helmet, the camera doesn't seem to move w/ the helmet, so you've got 3 panes of movement (helmet / bike / road & scenery,) so it gives that 'seasick' feeling.
    Good vlog man, well done on audio quality! Subbed :)

      Yeah that makes a lot of sense actually, damn I wish I could front mount the gopro, might be time for a new helmet. Thanks for that man! Appreciate it, been watching your channel for a while now, awesome seeing it grow so quick, definitely well deserved.

    I think its the perfect beginner bike for people like me . I would not be happy with a starter bike like a Honda Rebel 250 (which I considered) or the 500 or street rod 750. I have heard form several motovloggers to get a bike you'll be happy riding for a while. But this is a subjective subject.

    I'm 21 at 510" 160 lb I'm really considering this bike but then also the Honda rebel 500 they both look awesome!

    You can always get the suspension lowered a bit to flat foot. I am 5'6 and can flat foot fine with a small adjustment and riding boots on a stock seat.

    Just bought this bike. I'm 5'7" but I might have longer legs. I was flat footed and didn't find the weight to be that bad for a Harley. Only thing I'm not a fan of is the stock exhaust sounding like a Japanese bike for the first 10-15 miles. It does eventually rumble idle and in 1st. But definitely gonna do some exhaust slip ons soon

    I got this as my first bike several months ago and I'm already bored and want to upgrade to Night Rod Special. I should have just bought the Night Rod instead of listening to everyone to start smaller.

    • @sammyb883
      @sammyb883  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha yeah I wouldn't mind something bigger now. I'll probably just do a 1200 conversion though coz I like how the 883 looks esp after I do a few mods. Night Rods looks awesome though, was watching reviews of them today actually and man they are quick for such big bikes.

    I think good beginner bikes are around 250 cc, an old Honda Rebel or a Suzuki TU250X are good examples. I think the 883 is a good step up from a beginner bike. That being said an 883 might be all the bike some people ever want. And there are others that after years of riding want to go back to a smaller and lighter bike, the 883 is perfect for them. I've owned 16 motorcycles, mostly Japanese models and three Harley Davidson big twins. Now that I'm older (late 60's) I'd love to go to an 883, but due to my wife's health issues we must stay with a trike.
    As far as long rides, even with a Harley big twin your butt will go numb. The secret is to take breaks. We take a break every hour to hour an half, maybe to get a drink (water, so we don't dehydrate) get off to walk a bit, buy gas, what ever, but take breaks.
    You can customize any bike and spend way too much money on any of them. I know a boy that had a Harley Duce and spent thousands on chrome, all together he had $27,000 in it. The bike had extremely low miles on it when he sold it for $11,000.00.

    Iron 883 holds 2 gallons us with a half gallon reserve. I get about 150 miles you can probably go farther than that if your on a freeway . But 150miles is a good indicator

    Can an 883 be Lams approved? Thought it was max 6hundy?
    Edit:
    Nevermind, you answered the question in your vid.

    • @sammyb883
      @sammyb883  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I think 660cc is the highest LAMS approved bikes go. Which is strange because a 300 sports bike could still smoke this bike lol

      @daniellelievre1676 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I checked the LAMS list for ACT/Canberra and the 2016-17 XL883N was on it. Not sure about other states.
      I'm obsessed with this bike and I don't even have a motorbike license...

    About to get mine delivered.. I'm skeptical about the braking though. Is the technique any different from a sportsbike?
    P.S I already own a Duke 390, where most of the braking power comes from the front.
    Help me out, how I'm suppose to distribute the braking force (front to rear ratio)

    • @sammyb883
      @sammyb883  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      kalyan PM hey man, I haven't really been on a sports bike that much but with the iron the braking power still definitely comes from the front, I'll sometimes use the rear a little bit after the front if I want to slow down faster but i wouldn't use the rear too much if the road is wet.

    • @gtx332
      @gtx332 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      on all bikes the front brake will do most of the work, because as soon as you start braking the weight transfers to the front and unloads the rear

    883, a fun bike which looks cool but I wouldn't call them ideal for a beginner. If we are talking harleys, then yes, otherwise and 883 is not really a beginners bike. Lets just take the scenario that : when everything is fine any bike is easy enough - its when you get into trouble, which beginners are likely to do things go pear shaped. Lets look at the areas beginners get into trouble: braking, u turns, slow speed manoeuvres, misjudging a corner, dropping a bike at slow speed. The 883 is heavy, and top heavy to add to that, bad brakes and mediocre cornering clearance. The aspects that are suitable for beginners on the 883 is the riding position, simplicity and the power - or lack of. Stock standard they are quite slow.

    • @sammyb883
      @sammyb883  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yamaha Bolt, Kawasaki Vulcan, Honda shadow, Suzuki boulevard. Most of those bikes are cheaper and look quite similar to the 883 and they probably run smoother with liquid cooling instead of air cooling.....But in my opinion the 883 is still the best looking bike in that category and is the only one that will have that Harley feel to it haha.
